All I know is that on his tombstone is G L Kemp. My mother spoke of him as Lon Kemp. Also George Kemp. He moved from Ohio to Missouri. I found records of orphan trains that have a lon Kemp that came from Ohio to Missouri. Census records also state that he was from Ohio. He was born April 1848 and died Feb 1916. Do you have any idea of where in Ohio? My Kemps were in Pickaway/Fayette County, Ohio on Deer Creek. I found that a Jacob Wolff married an Ann, last name unknown, but was told she might be the daughter of a Kemp possibly a Daniel and Elizabeth Kemp that lived inPa. I also found several Kemps as witnesses on a will for Jacob Wolff, His wife is listed with several children. On the Will of Jacob a Jacob Kemp is listed as a witness. I also found a John Kemp. Looking for the siblings and their descendants of MARIA CHRISTIANA KEMP born Hoxton, Shoreditch in 1850. She was the youngest child of JAMES KEMP b Shoreditch c 1793 and SARAH SUSANNAH MARTIN B Shoreditch 1814 (dauhjter of MINTAM MARTIN and SARAH OSBORNE). In 1856 Sarah married HENRY ROBERTSON and Maria appears on some census returns after this as Robertson. Maria Christiana's Kemp siblings (all born Shoreditch): LOUISA FRANCES b 1833 married name BERRY, daughter EMILY BERRY SARAH ANN b 1836 MARY ANN b 1838 JAMES FREDERICK b 1840 JOSHUA GEORGE b 1843 HENRY EDWARD b 1845 MARIA CHRISTIANA b 1850 MARIA CHRISTIANA KEMP married THOMAS GREENWOOD in Stepney in 1874, four sons survived to adulthood, all were fishmongers or fish porters: THOMAS ARTHUR, GEORGE, WILLIAM and ALBERT. From 1880 the family lived in Edmonton and Enfield area. Maria died in 1939. JOSHUA GEORGE KEMP married EMMA (b Lambeth c 1844). I know of three children: the four eldest were born in Walworth, the youngest in Bethnal Green. The family lived in Elsted St, Newington, Surrey in 1881 and 1891. THOMAS GEORGE KEMP b 1869 EMMA KEMP b 1871 GEORGE KEMP b 1873 ALICE KEMP b 1876 In 1901 Joshua George Kemp is living with an aunt MARY MARTIN at 4 Martin's Cottages, Leyton, Essex. She was born c 1900 and lived in Shredberg (?) Road, Edmonton, the daughter of THOMAS ARTHUR GREENWOOD and KATE THIRZA GREENWOOD (nee SOUTHWICK). The BRIGGS family were living in Bevan Road, Cockfosters, in 1939 when Doris was the informant for the death of her paternal grandmother Maria Christiana Greenwood (nee Kemp). Thomas Arthur was one of four surviving children of THOMAS GREENWOOD and MARIA CHRISTIANA KEMP. His brothers were WILLIAM, GEORGE and ALBERT. All the Greenwood men were either fishmongers or fish porters. Maria Christiana Kemp was the youngest child of JAMES KEMP, a printer, born 1793 London, and SARAH SUSANNA MARTIN, born London c 1814, who was the daughter of MINTAM MARTIN and SARAH OSBORNE.
