I've sorted out most of what I know of my family, including some educated guesses and some half-remembered bits, onto the web. I've acquired some software that allows online collaboration with doing the family tree, so hopefully I can persuade some of my cousins to also add to it. Anyway the address is http://www.billykemp.org.uk/phpmyfamily/ It is set to let people view details of people born before 1932. If you think you can add to it then let me know and I'll do you a login id etc. -- James Kemp see Alexander at http://www.ajkemp.org/gallery/ and watch him walk at http://www.ajkemp.org/video/
Someone known as james@the-kemps.org scribed the following at 08:22:00 on Fri, 30 Nov 2007, allegedly: >I'm making some attempts to track back my own family based on my >father's work. My great great grandfather (James Kemp) was born on 14 March 1842 in Bishopsmill, Elgin (Scotland). He moved around a bit and his children were: Duncan Kemp, born in West Calder, 1871 Marion Kemp, Mill worker born in Govan 19 February 1874 Elizabeth Kemp, housekeeper born in Govan 1876 John Kemp [3], born in Glasgow/Govan 1878 Alexander Kemp, born in Greenock 1880 James Kemp, born in Greenock 1882 After that they were on the other side of the river before settling in Old Kilpatrick for a few generations. Hello KEMP researchers, Edmund KEMPE, from Gissing, Norfolk, was a solicitor, and he came to Virginia in 1644. All I know about his wife is that her given name was Anne. Does anyone know her maiden name? His father, also Edmund, was b. 1606 and died about 1649, when his estate was administered. Again, all I have on his wife was her given name, Bridget. That Edmund's father was Sir robert KEMPE, Esq., b. 28 DEC 1567 and m. Dorothy HARRIS in 1596 at Creeksee, Essex. He was b. and d. at Gissing, Norfolk, 23 OCT 1612. I have this KEMP line back 15 more generations, and several of the wives have well known families, also, if anyone is interested. As for DNA, I think it's worthless, unless you have two people who may be your ancestor and there's no other way to find out which is which. You pay a big hunk of money for nothing. That's just my opinion, however. It appears that although I am Scottish from generations back my distant ancestors were from the Denmark to Belgium stretch of the European coast. Hi Carole Firstly I know next to nothing about DNA research so take anything I say with a pinch of salt. I may be wrong. I only got the results of my test on Friday and so far I've only been able to work out what markers 390 and 391 and the values of 23/11 mean,. According to Ken Nordtvedt who seems to know about this, my ancestors moved to the British Isles from the Denmark to Belgium part of northern Europe sometime between 400 and 1000 AD and are known in DNA circles as North Sea Baltic. Here's where I found this, http://www.pbase.com/daveb/boyett_dna1 Ancestry.com, who did the test, have a few matches for me that go back to a common ancestor around 750 - 2000 years and the public boards have a few more. I'm frantically reading up on DNA and it is very complicated but I see there is a Kemp DNA board so I'll post there and see what happens. I'll keep you all updated on how it goes if anyone is interested. Hi My Kemp ancestors were from Perthshire prior to emigration to Australia. They arrived in Qld in 1865 & set up farming in Yangan near Warwick. Michelle, I'll see what I can dig up. I have a story about a Calvary unit from Saint Helena Parish that's interesting. Captain Jonathan Kemp's Partisan Rangers. They were heroes. They started out as volunteers and ended up being incorporated into the Confederate Army after becoming really popular. I think Captain Kemp paid for most of the uniforms and equipment just like his Grandfather (Jonathan Kemp) had in the American/British War. I'm sending you the story attached to this email. _http://users.cnnw.net/rebcav/history/3lacavhis.htm_ (http://users.cnnw.net/rebcav/history/3lacavhis.htm) (this is where the complete story starts.
