He had land on the "drains of Crooked Run, a branch of Shenahoah River". Their children were Mary, Sally, Barbara, John and James. It is daughter Barbara that was my ancestor (she married first Thomas Cooke, then Richard Hankins, and ended up in Bledsoe Co., TN). I would love to find a marriage record for James and Barbara, her maiden name, or anything else of the family prior to 1790. 1. Re: [KEMP] Searching Ancestry of Sophia Kemp Cooke (1796-1847)
    2. Gary Finkbeiner
    3. Hello Carolyn, Thank you for your suggestion. I assume you are referring to the 1841 British Census, no I have not tried it but will when I can get access. I am constantly on the computer searching for genealogy information on the Internet and came across a listing for Sophia Kemp on the Wells Family Site. But when I click the link, I can a notice that the connection is no longer valid. I then googled "Wells Family History" and found the site, but alas, Sophia is not mentioned but potential parents and brother living in Sussex are shown. Do you live in England? Most of my mother's (she also has some Dutch and Bavarian blood lines) ancestry is from England as is my father's maternal ancestry. I work well with the U.S. Census and have good sources for German records, but must admit I am weak with both British and Canadian genealogical sources. I used to live in Michigan but now reside in Arizona. Please let me know if you ever come across anything about Sophia Kemp.Thank you, Gary Finkbeiner > From: wildwood@thewarren.net> To: kemp@rootsweb.com> Date: Sun, 24 Aug 2008 11:28:58 +0100> Subject: Re: [KEMP] Searching Ancestry of Sophia Kemp Cooke (1796-1847)> > Hello Gary> > Have you found the family on the 1841 census yet? 3. Hello Gary Have you found the family on the 1841 census yet? That might give some clues to Sophia's background. Was Sophia's husband in the army or navy? My earliest known Kemp, is James who was born in Shoreditch, London (Middlesex) circa 1793.
