Author: judieserode Surnames: Kemp Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kemp/1860.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you - this is not my Sidney Kemp but possibly related. I have definite info on the children as one of them was my great grand mother. I have all of that documented. Some of this info I also got from the Children's Home Society as that is where some of the children went and were farmed out to foster care. My great grand mother's name was Susie (Susan) and I have info on her up until the 1940's when she 'disappeared' after her and my great grandfather divorced in the 1920's (it was a big scandal and even in the local papers here). The other siblings were named: Emma, Rebecca, Elizabeth and Willie. Sidney died May 31 1905. After he died, the children were then turned over to the CHS for lack of support, poverty, and neglect. Willie was not released until 1906 until he was weaned. That is all I know (other than the info they sent me on the siblings and my GGM. I am searching for Sidney's family and also again at some point, I will try to find where Susan ended up. Thank yo! u for the info thought. If you could look up based on the info I have, I would appreciate it! almost forgot, the report said Mary (Sidney's wife) remarried and became an "ODUM" and lived in Vista, Florida. Author: chelovek2000 Surnames: Kemp Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kemp/987.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Jean, Please contact me directly at g$j$pace@comcast$net, replacing the $ with . in the address. I am researching Henry B. Kemp & family who emmigrated from Wake Co NC to Smith Co., TN in the early 1800s and would like to push the family back, i.e., identify antecedents, as well as determine some of the NC descendants. I would be very pleased to share what I have with you or with others of a similar interest, but it is simply too voluminous to post here. Sadly, my records do not seem to mesh with your present inquiry, but I am not certain about that. The patriarch of the Smith Co., TN, Kemps is Henry B. Kemp: Henry B. Kemp (1731/1736/1743 - February 15, 1819<) [1790 USC/WNC] married Dinah (? - ?). He was born in Queen Annes Co., MD (?) / Orange Co., NC (?), and migrated with his father Richard to Johnston Co., NC. After Wake County was created from Johnston, Cumberland and Orange Counties, Henry, about 1804 - 1806, migrated from Wake Co., NC, to Wilson Co., TN, and then later to the Defeated Creek area of Smith Co., TN. Some sources have the emmigration beginning from Granville Co., NC, which was just north of Wake Co., NC. He died in Smith Co., TN. The extent of his issue is not definitively known. Richard Kemp (~1715 - ~1800) [1790 USC/WNC] married ~1735 is mentioned in the Johnston Co., NC, deed books as father of Henry Kemp and Henry's wife being Dinah. I look forward to corresponding to all interested Kemp researchers. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I don't know much about my mothers family. Will Kemp is the father of Rose Lillie (Zilley) Kemp, whom is my grandmother. The story supposedly is that my grandmother mother Alena Everett and Will or Willie Kemp never married but I would love to find out more about my family. My grandmother was born in 1900 in Pinehill, and my great grandmother Arlena supposedly worked for the Kemp Family as a cook. My grandmother supposedly had several sisters. 1. [KEMP] Matilda Kemp
    2. dolores whitaker
    3. I am trying to connect a Matilda Kemp who apparently died young in 1842 to a Kemp family in Tennessee. I know from a biographical sketch from Johnson county, Texas that she was married to a Dickson or Dixon D Hickman and that they had a son named William D Hickman dob 1837/38. In the biographical sketch her father is listed as Buel, which I've considered might be a slurred Burrell. I can find Dickson D Hickman listed in the 1840 Smith county, Tn census listed between Jinks Kemp and Burrell Kemp. There is one male listed under 5 which could be William D. Dickson D Hickman is listed between 20 to 30 which makes sense as I have 1813 as his approximate dob. His wife is approximately same age. I am assuming this is Matilda. Burrell is listed 40 to 50 or 1790 to 1800. Now in 1843 (after Matilda's death) DD Hickman married Frances Cole Rothermal in Wilson county. I can't find where Wm D Hickman, child of Matilda Kemp, is living in the 1850 census. Thought it might be with Kemp relatives. By 1860 Wm D Hickman and DD Hickman families are living in Dyer county, Tn. Has anyone found a Matilda Kemp in their family trees or a connection with DD Hickman? Thanks, Dolores

    1. [KEMP] More Kemps from Scotland
    2. Ross and Doris Malone
    3. Hello, Kemp researchers. The Scottish Kemps being discussed are not mine but I do have another line which hasn't been put out there for a long time. My line has these: Helen BLACK KEMP was born June 18, 1825 in Methven, just outside of Perth, in Scotland. In 1866 she married Joseph Collings Gadd II, and English immigrant whom she met in Racine County Wisconsin. She died on May 11, 1884 at their farm near Lebanon, Missouri. Helen's father was Andrew KEMP who was born in 1792 in the "West Half" District of Methven, Perthshire, Scotland. Andrew was a stonemason. Helen's mother was Lisie (Isabella) BLACK who was born in Scotland in 1796. These folks seem to have been originally from the north but when the clan system broke down under English rule, many were forced of their lands and their crofts because the English system was based on tax money rather than service to the clan. Luckily, Andrew had a good trade and probably found ample work in Perth until his family could escape to better conditions on the American frontier. I have more information and will be happy to share if I have any kuzzins out there. Good luck in your research! Ross Malone rmalone@fidnet.com
