Traci - not related to any of these Kemps that I know of - I started doing this more general Kemp research in an effort to find my line prior to 1770 - I'm actually looking for an Alexander Kemp who died in Canonmills, Edinburgh in August 1809 aged 45 yrs so his yob should be c1764 but I don't know where though think it will be in Aberdeen. He was a gentleman's servant through the 1790s & then became a publican in the early 1800s. If you can scan the birth entry you have for William 1834 & attach it I would appreciate it - I accept all 'donations' in this quest to put this Scottish Kemp tree together - not sure how you would do that - maybe easier to just type a transcription of what it says. He emigrated to the United States and settled in Oxford, Sussex, New Jersey before 1760. He fought on the British side in the Revolutionary War and then fled to Canada around 1780 with his family. His wife's name is unknown but they had at least nine children some of whom changed the name to Camp. If anyone know his parents/wife name that would be appreciated. Hi - I'm not positive about this information but from a Scotland composite Kemp tree I am developing it looks like the parents of the William Kemp that married Elizabeth Sheriffs were David Kemp & Jane Reid with this William's birth c1796. This is based on his age, occupations of those involved & the addresses found on 1841/1851 censuses. If this sounds right then it may be worthwhile checking out but please don't take this as gospel as I haven't viewed any primary sources for this. Can I ask where this William b1833 Skene who married Mary Thomson was in 1851 & subsequently as I couldn't find him on the census transcription? Hi, I took a look at the 1820 census for Hoosick Falls, NY and there was only one entry: Thomas Kemp. He did have one daughter under 10 years of age. It is possibly Louisa. She is not part of my Kemp line, that I am aware of. I have a book somewhere about the descendants of William Kemp who lived in the Troy, NY area. However, I can't find it at the moment but when I do, I'll her up and see if she's mentioned. If you know where she's buried, you might try the cemetery office or town/county historian to find out if they know anything. Have you tried getting a copy of her death certificate yet? I found her death date online at Ancestry.com as 28 March 1871. http://www.ohgenweb.org/vitals.php Miami county would or should have her death certificate, if she died there. Sometimes, if you're lucky her parents will be listed on her death certificate. Unfortunately, (I know from my own experience) that NY state did not require copies to be kept for vital records until sometime later in the 1800s. But you might churches in Rensselaer county and see how far their records go back. Maybe the marriage is on file at a church. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyrenss2/RensChurchIndex.htm -------------------------------------- quoted for your info from: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyrenss2/Vital.htm#marriage Marriage and Divorce Records: Marriage records are most often found in the county where the licenses were issued, usually in the jurisdiction of the county clerk or county recorder. However, in New York State, they were kept in the town. The early records consist mostly of records of licenses and bonds. Many of these early records have been published in books and periodicals, but the quality often leaves much to be desired. Most early marriage records do not contain detailed genealogical data; however, there are exceptions to this. Some substitutes for original marriage records are newspaper notices and announcements, as well as the vital records lists of marriage licenses which most newspapers have carried. While not actually vital records, another source of marriage information include widows' pension applications, family bibles and census records. ---------------------------------------------- Rensselaer County Clerk website: http://www.rensco.com/departments_infoservices.asp address: County Court House Annex, 105 3rd St, Troy NY 12180 Records Room open to public Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm, Thursdays open till 7pm http://www.rensco.com/countymaps.asp I don't see Hansvick on the county map, are you sure that's the name of the town? --------------------------------------- other places to look at: http://www.pcdl.lib.oh.us/miami/resultk.cfm?name=kemp&submit=Search&offset=126 her, maybe or not http://www.pcdl.lib.oh.us/miami/resulta.cfm sanford, definitely Hope this helps.
