Author: ColinDouglas931 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kemp/1184.2.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Allan, my 2Xs gt grandparents were James Kemp and Marion Pearson, they married in Larbert 25 NOV 1832, their children were:- James Bow or Charles Kemp chr, 29 SEP 1833 Larbert, Robert Kemp B. 01 SEP 1835 Larbert, Janet Kemp B. 06 JUL 1837 Larbert, Jean Kemp Chr. 07 JUL 1839 Larbert, Jean Kemp B. 05 JUL 1843 Larbert, Charles Kemp Chr. 18 JAN 1846 Larbert, Marion Kemp B. 16 FEB 1848 Larbert> my gt grandmother. Marion Kemp married Joseph Balfour she died in Larbert Parish in 1911 aged 62. I have her Death Certificate, Marion`s parents James Kemp and Marion Kemp M.S. Pearson, father James was a coal miner. I did my research on the IGI/LDS site, I haven`t searched for James Kemp on the scotlandspeople site. I found the children of James Kemp & Marion Pearson on the Mormon site and I figured that I would find James Kemp`s parents by the use of Scottish Naming Patterns. James & Marions 1st son James Bow or Charles Kemp, the James Bow bit is a puzzle! but I reckoned that their 1st son Charles chr, 1833 was named after James`s father Charles and the 2nd daughter Jane (Jean) chr, 1839, was named after James`s mother, then I looked on the IGI/LDS site and Bingo there were the couple I was looking for Charles Kemp & Jean Millar. The dates fit for Charles Kemp and Jean Millar`s son James Kemp born 1813, he would be 19 years old when he married Marion Pearson in 1832. When I looked on the Mor! mon site for James Kemps born about 1810 - 20 years I found 3, (1) James Kemp born 1797 Kippen, Parents David Kemp & Janet Buchanan, (2) James Kemp chr, 1812/13 Airth, parents Charles Kemp and Jean Millar, (3) James Kemp, born 1826, Airth, parents, John Kemp and Jane Stevenson. (1) there isn`t a David Kemp in James Kemp and Marion Pearson`s family (as above) there is a Janet. (2) James Kemp parents Charles Kemp and Jean Millar everything fits. (3) James Kemp born 1826? parents John Kemp and Jane Stevenson, he would have been 6 years old in 1832, far too young for a marriage to Marion Pearson. According to the IGI/LDS the 1st son of James Kemp and Barbara Borrowman`s family was John born 1852 Larbert and their 2nd daughter, (normally after James`s mother (Jean?)) was Barbara. If James Kemp and Barbara Borrowman`s 1st son John was named after his grandfather, parents for James Kemp number (3) fit well. James Kemp number (3) born 1826 would also be a good fit he would have been 22 years old, if it was he who married Barbara Borrowman. When was Barbara Borrowman born? There is one listing in the book for which I cannot account. A James Kemp s. Adam married Nancy English. I assume from the other listings, this means James was the son of Adam Kemp. Many of my line married into the English family, but I have no information on an Adam Kemp. Is anyone researching that line? How does Adam fit into the John Kemp family? Or does he? According to my research James Kemp (B 04/04/1813 Airth) married Barbara Borrowman on 16/07/1848. This was confirmed at Register House Edinburgh. I could be wrong but it's unlikely. What is the source of your info ? Additionally, I have no record of a Marion Pearson anywhere in my database. I have exactly the same information about Charles Kemp (senior) with regards to his marriage to Agnes, although the date of birth I have for him is 26/1/1746 (researched at Register House in Edinburgh). Charles Kemp (B 4/3/1781, D 1860 !!) married a Jean Millar on 3/4/1801 in Airth. They had 11 children (not confirmed) one of which, James Kemp (B 4/4/1813), was my great great great grandfather. Charles Kemp B. 26/2/1746 married Agnes Pirie in Airth 26/5/1771. I found an Agnes Pirie christened 26/4/1737 Saint Ninians, Stirling, parents Robert Pirie and Margaret Smart. If this Agnes is Charles Kemp`s (b. 4/3/1781) mother! it might explain why Charles Kemp and Agnes Pirie had only one child, Charles Jr. born 1781, the above Agnes b. 1737 would have been 44 years old when young Charles came along! Found her in the IGI/LDS site? What do you think? PS St Ninians isn`t far from Airth! Colin. D. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jamesakemp3 Surnames: Kemp, Hutchinson, Hendren Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kemp/1530.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hold it guys. I may be able to help (or to confuse). The information below is based on a hand-written letter by J. Irl Kemp and grandson of William Kemp (b 1822). For this family, three (3) siblings migrated to Kentucky in the mid 19th century: Mary Kemp, William Kemp, and James Kemp. Irl's letter implies they came from Virginia. They settled in Henry County, Kentucky. Mary, spouse unknown, had twins in 1832 - John and Mary. Mary didn't marry and had no issue. John's family is well documented at this and other websites. Mary's brother James had four children. I do not have any information on this part of the family. Mary's brother William had eight children. John and William are a nephew/uncle pair. They married sisters, Frances ("Fannie") Marten and Matilda Hutchinson, respectively. Some of John's family was born and remained in Kentucky when John and some of William's children moved to Harrison County, Missouri. They are burried in various cemeteries in Harrison County. I've found them at Rose Hill and Morris Chapel. A portion of the Hendren and Hutchison families also moved to Harrison County, Missouri. What I have not been able to find is any record of this group of Kemps prior to their appearance in Kentucky. I have found another Kemp family in Virginia in the mid-1800s with children named Mary, William and James, among others. There is even a John in that family, but my reading shows that this family moved to Calloway County, Missouri. The Calloway group is fairly easy to track. If you have the test done now, then when you locate one of the siblings, it can be matched. Of course, you might find them in the YDNA database before that. That is, provided one of the other boys had a test done. It has to be males, of course. At any rate, you might find "kinfolk" before you find your siblings. You can know more about the family backgrouond that way. Another source when you get names can be familysearch.org. The best thing about it is it's free. There are records of deaths, and censuses there. Good Luck Lolene Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: doc5keys Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kemp/1923.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Have you tried contacting the County Clerk at Rockwall County about getting a copy of the divorce? It might list the names of the children they still had by that time. They might have been poor and unable to care for that many children. The older children might remember more of what was going on at that time. I did find a listing for Thomas S Kemp (the one from GA) in the WWII enlistment database. He enlisted as an aviation cadet in Jan 1942 which meant he went to flying school. One of my thoughts about the trips is that he may have stayed in the military and was transferred from station to station. I was in the Air Force and every 2-4 years, I was sent to another base. The military in the 40s-60s was not as well paid as it is now. Many of the young enlisted families I knew, in the 70s & 80s, were on food stamps. There is still an Air Force base near Phoenix. I'm still not sure though that he is your Thomas Kemp. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
