I am searching for any type of information on an Elizabeth KEMP who was born in Maryland. She married a JOSEPH WRIGHT in Maryland in 1765. I know nothing else to aid anyone in helping. Searching for her parents and her lines.... Hoping to meet a new cousin.... Kathleen D Akers Bedford, VA
I was inquiring about CECILE &/or MARIE KEMP and inadvertantly wrote their birth date to be 1920 instead of 1820.
Mathhew John KEMP (1853-1931) and Rosalia Hildebrandt (1856-1952) had the following children. Would like information concerning them. This family settled in Wisconsin in the 1850s until about turn of the century when they moved to Freeport, Illinois, about the time of WWI most of them moved to Lansing, Michigan. Rose married a Lalon HORNBERGER and stayed in Lansing., Mathew Frank (1894-1979) died in San Antonio, Tx. Joseph A. (1884-1962) married a Pearl MARTINEZ and lived in San Antonio, Tx. Frank (1887-1981) married a Carolyn GASTMAN and lived in the Miowaukee, Wis. area. Hattie (1877-1968) married William HARRIS and stayed in Freeport, Ill. Theresa (1891-?) married Edward WASSELL Mary or Anna (?-?) married Roy MULLEN and lived in Michigan, prob around Port Huron. Eva (?-1917) married Martin DEETHARDT and died in Lansing, Mich. Is this family familiar to anyone? Kay
Hi everybody. I'm looking for a few good Kemps'... This will be long, but informative, and will help explain my question at the end. After all, some of the fun is in the story, right? Most of my Kemps have settled in Lousia County, Iowa. However, several of us have traced the family back to three brothers, John Nelson B. Kemp, William Kemp & Samuel Kemp. This Kemp family originally came from Maryland. The boys parents were John Kemp & Elizabeth "Besty" Brown, married April 25, 1804 in Somerset, Maryland( recorded in the book; "Somerset County, Maryland Marriage Records 1796-1871 by Roy C. Pollitt, page 82). I know that William was born in Somerset Co, Maryland on May 20, 1807 (recorded in Stepney Parish Records of Somerset County, Maryland, Saint Bartholomews at Green Hill; Saint Marys at Tyaskin by Ruth T Dryden. Page 79) and suspect that John Nelson was born January 01, 1801 (undocumented)- however, that means that John Nelson was born after John & Betsy's marriage - suspect that the B in John Nelson B stands for Brown, maybe adopted by John Sr. We are reasonably sure that Betsy maiden name was Brown, she seems to be from Ross County, Ohio. I have a reference to her brother, a Thomas Brown, who lived in Ross County, Ohio. We've not located a birthdate for Samuel. John Kemp (Sr) died (between 1807 - 1817) when William was small. William then lived with his mother until 10 years of age, when he went to work on a farm. William worked on a farm until his marriage 1827 to Mary Burzetta Wright in Somerset Co., Maryland. Burzetta was a native of Somerset Co., Maryland. Burzetta died in childbirth in 12/15/1833, and the William and family including brothers, moved to Ross County, then to Fayette County, Ohio. William remarried May 19, 1937 in Pickaway County to a Hester Goodwin. William and family, including brother Samuel, moved on to Iowa in 1855. We lost track of John Nelson B Kemp at that time. Last summer we finally located some documents on John Nelson B. Kemp at Washington Courthouse, Ohio. We located a marriage record for him, he married Catherine Longerbone September 10, 1846 in Fayette Co., Ohio. According to his will, they had three children; Benjamin, Ann, Catherine. We are attempting to match another Kemp - a Jessie Kemp, who is listed as living with a John N B Kemp in one of the census (I don't have the exact census year right here in front of me!) We suspect that Jessie might have been John Nelson B Kemp's son from a previous marriage. So - my question(s): Anybody out there connected to the Kemps living in Fayette County Ohio? Another name that pops up is Panscoastburg, Pickaway County. Maybe a few of these relatives we could match up? While I'm not yet to Maryland - if anybody sees a connection I would be glad to hear about it. We have 5 of us researching in different areas on this branch of the family - 4 of us descending from William Kemp, and the 5th - if we can connect her Jessie to John Nelson B Kemp - will be another cousin. Thanks Michele Kemp-Shockley
Does anyone have any information of Frances Diana Kemp born about 1734. She lived in Spotsylvania, Virginia. She married Henry Goodloe.

Greetings All. Have you seen the movie "Titanic" yet?? If not, it is truly a spectacular picture, and should not be missed. As a sidebar to the movie, I thought you would like to know about one of the Titanic's crewmen - Thomas KEMP. * * * * * * * * * * Thomas Hulman Kemp was 43 years old, and was an Assistant Engineer (Refrigeration). He was born in Southampton and served his apprenticeship with the London & South Western Railway Company and sailed in vessels owned by that concern. He spent four years with the Isle of Wight Steam Packet Company and a short time on the private steam yacht "White Ladye". He served ashore in Southampton with Harland and Wolf, but decided to go to sea again. His first appointment was to the "Titanic". He held a first class engineer's certificate. He lived in Southampton, where he left a widow and one daughter. Any information gathered will be published in "Kemp Roots". Bob Young, Secretary Kemp Family Association [email protected]

Greetings; I have been subscribed to the list for awhile and I am finally getting things together here. Does anyone have any info on the parents or family line of Rachel KEMP who married, 1781, Daniel STEWART, son of Danial and Mary (IRELAND) STEWART. Rachel KEMP was born August 21, 1761 in Westford, MA, daughter of Josiah Jr. and Sarah (PARROT) KEMP. Any info on this line would be greatly received. Thank you all, Al STEWART
Jospeh A. KEMP was born 12 Sep 1884 in Wisconsin and married Pearl J. MARTINEZ in TX. date unknown. He died 30 July 1962 and is buried at Sunset Memorial Gdns in San Antonio. His wife Pearl was born 9 July 1894 in Texas and died 21 March 1981 in San Antonio. Their residence was at 510 Guenther St. San Antonio. Joseph also lived in Sauk county, Wisconsin, Lansing, Michigan, and perhaps Freeport, Illinois before going to Texas about 1930. Would like to know date and place of marriage and did this couple have any children? He may have worked as a photographer. Is this correct? A brother Mathew Frank KEMP also lived with them in later years. Any information about this family appreciated. Kay E. Fleming

Dear Fellow Kemps, I am looking for the following book which I know is supposed to be in the Genealogy Society of South Carolina library, but was hoping that someone else may have the book or have ready access to it in a local library. The book may be a key link in my Kemp Family line of Edgar Thaddeus Kemp--suspected to be a grandson of Hannah Gorman Kemp, Greenville, S.C. Stalworth, Thomas Arrington, comp. Peter Durst (Dorst) / compiled by Thomas Arrington Stalworth. ix, 211 p. Request #: 929 Dorst The following families are included in this book: Kemp, Nicholson, Whitehead, Gorman, Garmon, Seago, Wells, Armstrong, Trotman, Keller, Rivers, Arrington, Avret, Kinard, Lominack, Longshore, Epps, Parnell, Lineback, DuPrey, Woodle, Murray, Gray, Hendrix, Newton, Smith, Golson, Chappell, White, Early, Krevet, Noble, Lofton, McKeown, King, Talbert, This Peter Durst MUST BE a descendant of John Durst--husband of Clarissa Kemp--I'm not sure but she might have been a sister of Henry I.Kemp--but do know the Durst name is a lead. Furthermore--the Gorman is the maiden name of Hannah, and I suspect this is the lead I have been looking for. Any help on any of these Nicholson, Gorman, Durst, or the above book would be a great help in my Kemp family research. Best wishes, Ron English.
