My wife's great great grandfather. Timothy Keeler of South Salem. NY came to Upper Greenville County, SC in the late 1820's. He married Nancy Marie Kemp of Greenville County and their first child was born in 1832. We have searched for the family of Nancy Marie for several years but have made no progress. It would be wonderful to be able to tie then in with the Henry J. Kemp Family. What do you think. Yancey and Marion Cantey Watkins Savannah, GA

Hi, This is my first posting to this list. After several months (actually more than a year) of not working on my Kemp line, I have decided to organize my information and try to fill in some gaps. I have traced my family back to Johan Conrad Kemp/Kaempf b 1685 who came to America with his wife and six children in 1733. Some research notes of Annabelle Kemp that were sent to me by Mary Williams 5 years ago state that John Conrad Kemp "was born near the Switzerland border in what is known as the Black Forest section in 1685." According to data that Annabelle Kemp got from the records of Howard H. Kemp, John Conrad's grandfather was Frederick Von Kaempff, b circa 1635 or 1640, of St Gallen Canton, Switzerland who married and had three children, Christian (John Conrad's father), Hans Peter and Catharine. When I was in Maryland last year, I went to the Maryland Historical Society I looked at some of Annabelle's research (they have 20 boxes of her research on Kemps), but couldn't find any verification of this info. Can anyone verify this information? Also, in an excerpt of the Frederick County Administration Accounts which are currently being posted to the MDFREDER mailing list, it shows Mary Krep as being the administrator for John Kemp deceased 24 Oct 1765. Does any body know if this is Johan Conrad Kemp? Terry Kemp [email protected]
I've received several messages lately about lack of correspondence and/or newsletters. I'd like to pass along some information. 1) If you filled out the membership application on the web page, but have not sent your check for $10 to the Association, then you are NOT a member. 2) If you have sent your check for $10, but have not received at least two copies of the Kemp Files, let me know. For some reason, the last mailing had a half-dozen or so lost deliveries. 3) Please allow up to 30 days from the time you mail your check before receiving a newsletter. We work as volunteers on this end, also, and sometimes we get a little backlogged. 4) A reminder from Kay Taylor, our Historian. She receives many, many messages and mail requests weekly. She cannot possibly reply to each and every one in depth. Therefore, she will only reply to those queries from KFA members. 5) FYI, the next issue of the Kemp Files (Vol. 2, No. 3) will be going to the printer on Monday, and should be in the mail by March 7th. Just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone on the list who replied to me - I am amazed how many of you have been to the FHL. I'm now feeling like I'm going to Nirvana - can't wait!!! Bob Young
John KEMP,( 21 Apr. 1826-10 Nov 1885) was born in Germany and married Margaretha ODENHAUSEN (13 Jul 1825-18 May 1895) either in Germany or Wisconsin. They had children Mathias, 1853, Margaret, 1856, and Michael. Both John and Margaretha are buried at Roxbury, Dane county, Wisconsin. Mathias married Rosalia HILDEBRANDT in 1876 and moved to Lansing Michigan. Margaret married Frank HILDEBRANDT in ? and moved to Freeport, Illinois. Michael married Anna PINGS. Would like to find out more about this family and their children. [email protected]
Hi, My Greant Great Grandfather was John Baptist Kempf from Dunkerque, France. Various name variations include Kemp and Kamp. I am not sure if he was born in France but my Great Grandfather John J. Kemp death certificate listed his place of birth as Dunkerque, France. However, in some census records it shows Alsace-Lorraine. John Baptist Kempf was married to Ann Loonis about 1825 - 1830. She may have been Belgian, but again, I am not sure. John J. Kempf/Kemp was born 18 Aug 1830 in France and died 22 Nov 1896 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. He was married 16 Dec 1855 in Cathedral R.C., Buffalo, Erie County, NY to Ann Kavanagh. Anyone able to share any information on this family would be much appreciated. Greetings fellow Kemp researchers. I will be going to Salt Lake City in late May to a convention. I have planned to arrive 2-3 days early, so I can visit the FHL for some heavy duty research. This will be my first time visiting the FHL. I need someone local to SLC to provide me with some guidance on hotels and on the FHL. Bob Young Danbury, CT [email protected]

Hi, This is my first post to the mailing list, so please bear with me if I don't get this right. I have a real puzzle that I have been trying to figure out and I hope that someone can help. I am searching for information on Peter KEMP of Frederick Maryland. I received info that he was the father of my GG Grandfather Johnathan KEMP, b. Mar. 12,1797 in Frederick County, Maryland. Since that time I have been given info on a Peter KEMP of Maryland which matches the info I have except for the birthdate and parents names. I'm not sure if the original info that I got was mixed up with another Peter KEMP of Maryland or if some of the info is incorrect. I know this sounds confusing, but I'm determined to figure this puzzle out. Can you help me?? Thanks in advance. Sandy [email protected]
My time was limited today at my local library, but did find in a book titled "Early Virginia Immigrants" by George C. Greer a small amount of KEMPS. I am new to your listing page. GILLIA KEMP was born about 1806 in SC. She married JESSE BALL about 1822, probably somewhere in GA. She may have died during the 1870's in Randolph Co, AL, because the last time I find her is in the 1870 census of Randolph County. Reportedly, she is the daughter of MOSES or SOLOMON KEMP. Is anyone else researching this Kemp family line? Her children with Jesse: John, Amanda, Abner C., Elizabeth, Celia, George, and Moses. Thanks for any help with this person. Is there any resource written on the Kemps that might aid in my research? Beverley Key
Have just added another link to the KFA homepage. Wayne has volunteered to be a resource for the Georgia Kemps. Thanks so much to Wayne H. Welch whose father, James H. Welch was able to publish his and my mother's genealogy research results before his death in 1995, entitled Welch/Kemp and Allied Families. Their book traces the decendants of Joseph Kemp 1765-1848 and his children; Benjamin, Charles, Lucy, Morgan, Reuben, and John. His place of birth is unknown, but he died in Marior County Georgia, near Columbus, GA. Indexed are over 500 names. The Kemp Klan Reunion was first organized by my father in 1955 and has met annualy without interuption. His mother was Annie Beatrice Kemp Welch. I have Sarah Kemp, born ca 1803 in England somewhere. Her parents were named on her children's nonconformist reporting of births. William and Lydia KEMP/CAMP. She married ca 1830 William MAYNARD, son of James and Elizabeth (pro. HOPGOOD) Maynard, born 1806 in Bodiam, Sussex Co., England. William and Sarah lived in Kent County where most of their children were born and most died, and then immigrated to Ripley County, IN where William was ordained by the Baptist Church 1860ish. Anyone on the KEMP list doing English research? Shirley
A William Kemp is listed as a packhorseman with trader John Highrider in the Chickasaw Nation. List list was found on pages 50-51 in the first of three volumes labeled Foreman Transcripts, London Public Record 0ffice.
