I just read about one of "infamous" Kemps in the latest issue of NEW MEXICO MAGAZINE. It seems that Dave Kemp was Sheriff of Eddy County, NM. and while sheriff he was the behind-the-scenes boss of "Phenix" (plagued by drinking, gambling and prostitution). After being booted out of office he became notorious for killing Sheriff Les Dow on the Streets of Eddy (now Carlsbad, NM) in 1897. It seems that after Dee Harkey became sheriff, Dave Kemp attempted to kill him but did not succeed. Harkey then drew up a contract with Dave Kemp --- "WHEREAS, Dee Harkey has always got the drop on Dave Kemp and tonight was going to kill Dave Kemp. NOW THEREFORE, in consideration of Dee Harkey not killing Dave Kemp , Dave Kemp hereby contracts and agrees that he will never again waylay or try to kill Dee Harkey." See WHEN SIX GUNS RULED by Marc Simmons and/ or the autobiography of Harkey, MEAN AS HELL. I don't know whose line this person belongs to, but maybe some can figure it out. Just supplying the info. Dear Fellow Kemp Family, I haven't received a post to this list in a long time. I was wondering if the list is still alive. Best wishes, Ron English, Killeen,TX
I am searching for any information about Augustus Kempf, who was in New York in 1860. He was married to Josephine Barbara or, possibly, E.L. Muller, at that time. He had a son, Edward, who was one in a long string of men named Edward. Edward had a son, Edward Leo, who was my GGrandfather. Edward Leo had several sons: Edward, Jesse (my grandfather), Otto, August, Carl, and two daughters, Mary and Dolly. So, while the name is not "Kemp", in some instances the "f" may have been dropped. Thanks for any help.

My brother now lives at >Crugsillick Manor Greetings. I am the Secretary of the Kemp Family Association. I have only a small piece of information on Admiral Arthur Kempe. Arthur Kempe was born about 1740, son of Charles and Ann (Kempe) Kempe. He married Ann Coryton. Later in his naval career, he was named as Admiral of the Red, which was one of three titles just below Admiral of the Fleet. As Admiral of the Red, he was the overall Admiral of the British Fleet in southeast Asia, as well as Australasia. Fred Hitchin-Kemp's book from 1904 has a chapter devoted to the Kemp's of Cornwall. In that chapter, he makes claim that the lineage of Admiral Kempe could be traced back to the Kempe's of Ollantigh Manor in Kent. This line has been very well researched.... perhaps one of our members can verify this fact. I have nothing else specific to his military career. I would suggest that you begin looking for this information at the GENUKI site: http://www.genuki.org.uk Bob Young, Secretary Kemp Family Association [email protected]

Because of a hospital stay and recuperation etc. I have managed to forget to renew my membership of the KFA this year. I believe that we can now use sterling and send the cheque to a U.K. address - Is this so ? If this assumption is correct can someone please give me the following information. How much is the KFA subscription (in UK pounds) ? Who do I make the cheque out to (a UK cheque) ? Who do I send the cheque to (in UK) ? Many thanks in anticipation Kindest regards Ann and John Kemp Gloucester U.K.
