THANK YOU! I was getting really peeved at all the complainers who wrote about the problems. As by bosses used to tell me (before I became one, and started using this line myself>>>) "Don't bring me problems; bring me SOLUTIONS!" Mr. Young is very capable, and I'm sure he has other things he must get done during the course of his day, other than sit around and think about ways to get your money for nothing. Dear Bob, Thanks for all your hard work and keeping the association afloat. Your volunteer efforts are a service to all Kemp researchers and the $ 10.00 is hardly the price of one meal these days...I really don't know what one might expect from a volunteer more than you have given. You have helped me personally several times over the past couple of years and I appreciate your responses. I think I have benefited beyond my dues. Best wishes, Ron English, Killeen, TX
Folk, Before you start jumping to conclusions, be assured that I am still alive and ***trying*** to keep the KFA afloat. Please bear with me as I try to provide some answers. To answer some of the specific concerns: 1) For those who have not received notification that dues have been received, I must plead guilty. I have not been able to get to the membership roles since the KFA Reunion in Salt Lake in late October. I have, I believe, 8 or 9 new members to whom I owe a note and some issues of the newsletter. 2) For those who claim they have received no replies, or worse yet, nothing at all, for many months (or over a year, as one claimed), I cannot correct a problem which I do not know about. If you do not receive newsletters, you need to let me know. When a newsletter goes out, I send almost 200 copies all over the USA and another 20 or so to international destinations. Unless they come back to me as "return to sender", I have no idea whether or not you've received it. At present, all current members should have received 3 issues in 1999 - Volume 3, No. 1, 2, and 3. 3) Speaking of the newsletter, my two biggest problems in producing a good newsletter which everyone likes to receive are getting articles to publish and up to date queries. My personal Kemp research has been in New England, and in Kent and Norfolk, England. I have provided many articles for the newsletter, but the KFA is not about just these three regions. I need YOUR help. 4) E-Mail is not without its own problems. AT&T Worldnet has been having problems for the past 4-6 weeks, and some of my mail has not been getting to me. I've been dropped from a couple mail lists because my mail was being bounced. If I do not reply to e-mail within 7 days, then don't hesitate to contact me again - as Jeff Kemp in Alaska did. (P.S., sorry, Jeff. I did not get your first e-mail) 5) Regarding the dues year - I cannot realistically send out dues renewal notices when you are not receiving 4 issues a year of the newsletter. $8 of the $10 that you pay is to cover the cost of printing and mailing the newsletter. Therefore, I do not plan to send renewal notices until the 4th issue of the newsletter is published. Those that have paid their dues since early summer of 1999 will be carried over to 2000. 6) Regarding a change in leadership, as one member has suggested - I would happily step aside in the best interests of the KFA, if that is what members wish. But, in 5+ years I've been active with KFA, I have yet to see or hear anyone step forward to help out. The KFA was formed 6 years ago by 5 members. Since that time, two of those members are no longer active in running the KFA, and a third member has sharply cut back on their involvement. Linda Dolby has done a great job with the KFA Web Page, the Kemp Forum, and this mail list. Kay Taylor continues to help individual researchers, and continues to publish her very helpful handbooks. But the remainder of the "running" of the KFA is in my corner. I would suggest that, rather than a change in leadership, some of you might consider stepping up and helping to keep KFA afloat. Like many of you, I also work full time and have a number of other projects and responsibilities. But I'm also proud of my Kemp heritage, and I'm more than willing to help KFA. If anyone has some proposals for improving KFA, this is certainly the forum to do that. I'm "all ears" - so let's hear some of your ideas. And, if you have a specific concern - especially those who say they're not receiving anything, please contact me privately. Bob Young, Secretary Kemp Family Association P. O. I've been trying to get an answer since October, 1998. I received The Kemp Files summer issue in October including a paragraph under Important Milestones and Changes stating dues would begin being payable April 1st to April 1st (which I had always done). Enclosed with that newsletter was a separate sheet to complete and send renewal saying "we are now having all our member dues expire on July 1st". Help! I wrote immediately, 10/8/98, trying to get clarification since I'd renewed 4/1/98. Still trying to get an answer, so I guess they've removed me. If anyone gets an answer, I'd be inter- ested. Hi - I hear your concern. I don't know what has happened. I am trying to contact some others to see what can be done. This is not like Bob. I know him personally. My wife & I are respionsible for the 200o reunion in North Carolina. We would like to see this org stand and I am sure it will. I have a phone call into one person that may be able to help. Jeff Kemp writes that he has been waiting for some response to his application to join the KFA since October - big deal! We joined (supposedly) back in March and have to date received nothing at all. We believe we were ripped off. John Kemp in England.
12/05/99 Kemp Listers: Does anyone on this list have a Kemp-Kendall connection anywhere in their family tree? If you have the tinniest little shred of a lead, I would appreciate it if you could pass it on to me! I am tracking a Bailey Kendall (born abt 1795 in Virginia). I think that he either married a Kemp OR one of his daughters might have married a Kemp. but I don't have any idea in which State! My only clue at this point is a female named Francis Mildred Kemp. While Bailey was born in Virginia; He could have been in "any one" of the United States after 1846. I lose him completely after paying taxes in 1846 in Fauquier County, Virginia, along with six children. Appreciate all help Tom Kendall [email protected]
Bob, I sent in a check (the check was from Kim Chapman) with a letter telling you my name, address, etc. as I wanted to join the Kemp Family Association. This was back in, I believe, October. I sent you an email last month inquiring about my status as a member of the KFA. You haven't responded to my letter request for joining the KFA and you haven't responded to my email. What gives? I find this troubling. Please let me know immediately the status of my request to join. Has anyone else had this problem? Thank you. -- Jeff Kemp [email protected] "If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough."

Hello Everyone, Please check out the Kemp Family Chronicles Web Site at: http://www.angelfire.com/in/genman/index.html Jeff Kemp Site Coordinator
His parents are Frederick Kemp and his wife Regina (unknown), according to the book THE KEMP CHRONICLES, BOOK 2: JOHANN CONRAD KAEMPFF by Debra Kemp Sotzing & Sally Kemp Hagins. It was published last year and contains a lot of information!! By the way, my wife is descended from John William's brother John Henry Kemp who went to Clark Co., OH. There is also a lot of information about Frederick's descendants, siblings, etc. They take the Kemp line back four additional generations to a Frederick Von Der Kempe. The two ladies worked long and hard to publish this book and probably still have copies. Dee's e-mail is [email protected] and I can't find Sally's. So please try that. Hello! I've been subscribed to KEMP-L for some time now. Thought it about time I should introduce myself. I am researching the KEMPs of Wickham Skeith, Suffolk, England. This is my wife's line. It starts with her 3rd great-grandmother Letitia (nee KEMP) THURLOW (married 2ndly HOWARD, and 3rdly ROBINSON) (1793-1881). I have the line traced back to Thomas and Susan KEMP (aka CAMPE) at Wickham Skeith in 1673. Thomas was a "Shoemaker" and "Cordwainer". If you would like to see the details of my KEMP research you will find the details on my web site here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~weston/ I am keen to make contact with any descendants of this line who may have emigrated from England. If you are researching your KEMPs in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or elsewhere and need help connecting the family to the UK please give me a shout. I may be able to help. I may be able to help with your KEMP research in Ontario, Canada also. Am looking for information on a Joseph A. KEMP (1884-1962) son of Mathew KEMP and Rosalia HILDEBRAND. He was born in Wisconsin but later relocated in San Antonio, Texas where he he found with a wife Pearl MARTINEZ (1894-1981) He may have been a photographer after 1930. Would like to know where and when he married Pearl, did they have any children, anything about this couple. A brother Mathew Frank KEMP (1894-1979) may have lived with them. [email protected]
Am searching for Ernestina Kemp. She was born in Germany in 1837/8, emigrated to Wisconsin, and married Christian Bauer. They had their first of about ten children in 1864/5. They settled in Lind Twp., Waupaca County, Wisconsin. She was "pitching hay in her eighties". John N.

A Genealogist's Christmas Eve (author unknown) "Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said... "Too bad about the data for which you wrote Sank in a storm on an ill fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and the such Were proof that my work had become much toO much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and of such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparent's wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas cheer; I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright. Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and I yanked up the sash. When what to my wondering eyes should appear? But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys, and old Santa Claus too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. The TV antenna was no match for their horns, And look at our roof with hoof-prints adorned. As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa - KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet, (I could wring his short neck!) Spotting my face, good old Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit, you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy; When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you", Santa grinned. As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement - the cover it read "Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Plead." "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug," He said as he gave me a a great Santa Hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folks who can't find a thing. Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle, To his team which then rose like the down of a thistle And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family History is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fish or cut bait. -American Proverb
