While we're discussing Francis Kemp... How about a Francis A. (possibly Asbury) KEMP, living in Weakley County, TN in the 1840's - 1850's. The 1850 census says F.A. Kemp and his wife Mary were from North Carolina. I have no idea where in NC and haven't had any luck finding further info on them. Francis and Mary had a son Edmund Kemp, Edmund died between 1855 and 1860, leaving several children, Edmund's family is listed as CAMP in the 1850 census, but all other records, tax, marriage etc list them as KEMP. Edmund's wife's name seems to start with the letters "Ala" and that's all I can read. Edmund Kemp had a daughter Sarah Caroline who married Riddle D. BAKER in 1863. Sarah and R.D. left Weakley county between 1880 and 1900, in 1898 they were in Burnett County, TX, where two daughters were married, but in 1900 were in Indian Territory, near Ardmore, Oklahoma. Sarah died in 1906. I know that Sarah had a brother named William. Anyone know anything about this family? Leslie Bell in sunny, warm, Arizona
Sorry, folk. I should have been more specific about which Francis Marion Kemp I was speaking of. This Francis Marion Kemp was born about 1848 in Miami County, Ohio, the son of Hiram and Margaret (Moore) Kemp. He married Clara Anderson. My apologies to all of you who replied, hoping that I had your Francis Marion Kemp. This one is still up for adoption..... Bob Young [email protected]

Does this ring a bell? I wish it did. The family sought seems to have had 3 daughters, and possibly 1 son. I have found nothing on this list about my small family...and nothing elsewhere much. I know my mother with her (father?) visited Pennsylvania in the early 1900s to see friends. I still need to find the photographs of that visit. But, Washington, PA seems to "ring a bell." If I could only remember! There must have been some remaining family connections to her father's spouse's first marriage to a KEMP. I am not sure. Or, her paternal family, the SHARPs , may have originally come from Pennsylvania during the Palatine migrations to Ontario. Thanks so much! Howard

The major compiled genealogy for the MARVIN family George Franklin Marvin and William T. R. Marvin Descendants of Reinold and Matthew Marvin of Hartford, CT, 1638 and 1635 Sons of Edward Marvin of Great Bentley, England 1904 says that Silas MARVIN was born in 1805 in Norwalk, Connecticut, and married in 1827 Judith KEMP who was born in 1808 in Virginia. They appear in the 1850 census in Jackson Township, Richland County, Ohio, and in the 1870 census in Plymouth Township, Richland County, Ohio. The 1830 census apparently (I haven't checked it personally) shows in Sharon Township, Richland County, Ohio, a head of household named John Kemp, but I have not been able to show a connection between him and Judith Kemp Marvin. Does anyone on this list recognize Judith (Kemp) Marvin and know who her parents are? Frances Van Scoy [email protected]

Any help for the Subject would be appreciated. I am researching the mid-1800s. Thanks, Howard
Mark, I think that I am descended from Reuben Kemp (and Jenny/Jane Stewart) via their daughter, Jemima. I do have an ancestor, Jemima Kemp, who census records say was born in NJ in about 1785. However, I can't prove that there isn't some other Jemima (or Jermina) Kemp of NJ at the same time). Do you have any information that would help me? Thanks, Walt [email protected] wrote: > I have been subscribed to this Kemp e-mail for over a year and still I never > see my ancestor Reuben Kemp of NJ to KY (1740-1807) posted in the KFA > website. Wanda- I don't know much more... but you could look up Frances Marion on the web, or on a Rev War history site. Lots of southern little boys were named for him after the British occupation of Charleston was ended. This site is celebration the Swamp Fox festival as we speak! http://community.marion.ia.us/swampfox/ Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wanda Irby" <[email protected]> To: "Mary Hayward Brockmeyer" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 06, 2000 8:20 PM Subject: Francis Marion Kemp > I did not post the query but he is in my direct line. Dear Listers, iI am somewhat interested in joining the Kemp Family Association, but haven't heard or seen anything about my KEMP on this list so far. The only KEMP I have is Ann KEMP, b. 1660, VA, m. Philip HUNDLEY, Jr. Does anyone know if this line is represented in the Kemp Family Association. I went to the site, but didn't find anyone from VA. Thanks, Betty Sullivan
I have been subscribed to this Kemp e-mail for over a year and still I never see my ancestor Reuben Kemp of NJ to KY (1740-1807) posted in the KFA website. Did I miss something somewhere? Please guide me there and your help will be appreciated. I have had a few Kemps contact me through the forum. I am hesistant to join Kemp Family Association if my Reuben Kemp isn't listed in the KFA website. Thank you, Mark
Don't know which Frances Marion Kemp you are referring to, but my Grandfather, George Foster Kemp had a brother names Frances Marion Kemp b. May 23, 1869, d. May 20, 1946. He is buried in the Pottsville Cemetery near Hamilton, Texas. He is the son of William Maxwell Kemp & Elizabeth Ann Moore Kemp. Beth Covey
Greetings, A while back, someone posted a query about Francis Marion KEMP. If that person would please contact me, I may have some information for you. Bob Young, Secretary Kemp Family Association
I'm not sure if this is helpful, But Frances Marion was an infamous leader in the Rev. War near Charleston. He was nicknamed the Swamp Fox, and was known for leading his very loyal men through the swamps of the Charleston area rivers to avoid the British troops. This might be a clue to where your Kemp came from? Hi, My name is Andrew Cox and I created a chat room for people with delaware familys to go and chat it is not a big chat yet but....... I hope it will be soon. I am online a lot and that is why I figured that I could chat to a bunch of people who were researching there familys of delaware all the time and try to help them as much as I could and beings that I go to the Archives alot in Dover, Delaware I figured maybe I would be nice and look stuff up for people! I did exagerate a lot but that don't give you any right to go off and say stuff like that about my chat room I wanted it to be a big hit so I said things that were not true and with people like you saying that kind of stuff my chat room will not be a big success! I was hoping thta my chatroom would enable me too meet new people that were researching my lines in Delaware and then we could trade info and we would both prosper! If you now think that it is a good idea then Click on this- Genao logy Chat and go try to meet new people who are also researching your lines!
