I thought I would send this out again. I'm also sending to some new locations. I'm looking for other family members related to LAURENCE KELLY and MARTHA SMITH. Supposedly both LAURENCE KELLY and MARTHA SMITH were born in Southeastern Pennsylvania. LAURENCE KELLY was born about 1740 and MARTHA SMITH was born about 1742. They were married on April 8, 1767 in Pennsylvania most likely in Cumberland or Lancaster County. The exact location is not known. This marriage was performed and recorded by Rev. John Conrad Bucher. Rev. Bucher first lived in Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA. then moved to Lebanon, Lancaster Co., PA. around 1768. (He also may have owned land in Northumberland Co.) From the Annals of Buffaloe Valley PA., Tax lists, and Provincial papers. LAURENCE and MARTHA KELLY are listed living in Northumberland County,Pennsylvania. Laurence Kelly 1775-1780 White Deer Twp. 1 Horse 1 Cow, Laurence Kelly 1781 Buffaloe Twp. 2 Horses 2 Cows, Laurence Kelly 1785 Turbutt Twp. 200 Acres 1 Horse 2 Cows, Laurence Kelly 1787 Chillesquaque Twp. ? , Laurence Kelly 1793 Northumberland County record Warrentees of Land 400 Acres, Laurence Kelly 1790 & 1800 U.S. Census Northumberland County Pennsylvania. These Townships are near Milton & Lewisburg Pennsylvania. Union and Northumberland Counties today. Northumberland County was formed from Lancaster, Berks, Cumberland, Northhampton, & Bedford Counties in 1772. The towns of KELLY POINT and KELLY CROSSROADS are in Union County Pennsylvania today (this is same area that was Northumberland County from 1772-1813) The same location where LAURENCE & MARTHA KELLY lived from 1775-1781. These Townships west of the Susquehanna River, White Deer & Buffaloe, became Union County in 1813. From 1785-1800 LAURENCE & MARTHA KELLY lived on the east side of the Susquehanna River. Forced to because of Indian attacks. This time period was known as "The Great Runaway" (about 1780-1784). During the Revolutionary War LAURENCE KELLY was a private in Captain John Forster's Company. This was the 1st Company in the 1st Battalion known as the Northumberland Rangers. In command of the 1st Battalion was COLONEL JOHN KELLY. It is very possible that LAURENCE KELLY and COLONEL JOHN KELLY are in someway related. How is not known. Perhaps first cousins or maybe even brothers. COLONEL JOHN KELLY was born in 1744 on his father's farm (John Kelly Sr.) near Marietta, Donegal Township, Lancaster Co., PA. The towns of KELLY POINT and KELLY CROSSROADS are named after COLONEL JOHN KELLY who was a Revolutionary War Hero for Northumberland County Pennsylvania. LAURENCE KELLY and COLONEL JOHN KELLY both came to the same area of Northumberland County around the same dates. In 1800 LAURENCE & MARTHA KELLY along with their children with their families moved west to western Pennsylvania and then onto Ohio and Indiana. They were in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio from around 1802-1809. Staying there for only about 7 years. Then about 1810-1812 LAURENCE and MARTHA KELLY along with their Sons and Daughters (Hugh, John, Abraham, Martha, Elizabeth, William, Davis) arrived in Blue lick, Monroe Township, Clark County, Indiana. Where LAURENCE & MARTHA KELLY are both buried. MARTHA (SMITH) KELLY died September 22 and LAURENCE KELLY died two days later on September 24, 1823 (These deaths were recorded in the diary writen by Daniel Guernsey Sr., Schoolmaster in Blue lick) The diary reads..... In the year 1823 on September 21, Bronson Guernsey watches at the home of John Kelly. September 22, At 4 o'clock this morning old Mrs. Kelly died, aged 81 years. Guy & Seymour Guernsey, Laz Kelly, Robert Campbellton, and William Patrick dig the grave in the woods near the home of John Dietz. I get home from the burying about five o'clock. September 24, Old Mr. Lawrence Kelly, age 83 years, dies about six thirty this morning. September 25, Attended the funeral of Mr Kelly. Mr. Little preached an excellent sermon. I got home from the burial about four o'clock. For those of you who may not know. Daniel Guernsey Sr. is the father of Daniel Bronson Guernsey who married Nancy Kelly daughter of John & Elizabeth (Wheatley, Mills) Kelly. This grave yard known as Blue Lick Cemetery to early settlers later became Mountain Grove Cemetery. Supposedly the land where LAURENCE & MARTHA KELLY are buried was once owned by HUGH KELLY who donated this portion of land for a cemetery. The Guernsey and Dietz families were neighbors, good friends, and thier children married into the Kelly family. Visit this web site for pictures of their graves. www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881/bluelickcem.html Anyone who has knowledge about these KELLY or SMITH Families in Southeastern Pennsylvania during the mid to late 1700's or anyone who feels they maybe related to Lawrence and Martha Kelly please contact me.
