Hi All, I just found out that my gr gr grandfather, Timothy Kelley, served as a private in the 1st Indiana Regiment, Co. B, Heavy Artillery, Co. B, in the Civil War. He is buried in Chalmette National Cemetery, outside of New Orleans, LA. There are two other Kelleys that suspiciously look like they may be relatives: Patrick (1st Indiana Regiment, Co. K, Heavy Artillery), and Samuel (1st Indiana Regiment, Co. K, Heavy Artillery). Apparently, this regiment started out in Virginia, and then fought battles in the New Orleans/Baton Rouge area starting in 1862. Since, on his death certificate, it states that Timohty Kelley came to live in New Orleans in 1862, I suspect he came to the city with the Regiment when it arrived from the east coast. (It sailed from Newport News, VA). He married Mary Coppinger about 1862, and my great grandfather, James William was born on July 10, 1863. He died on March 16, 1884 of turberculosis in New Orleans. He was 48 years old, and a cotton inspector by occupation. Can anyone connect? Colleen
