Eh! Listers! My name is Loren G. Kelly and I am an Irish Canadian American, Living In Texas! I am researching the surnames KELLY & TOMPKINS! Most recently, while researching my KELLY-LINE, I have discovered the following: I am searching for descendants of Thomas KELLY & Hannah {BROWN} KELLY. These are my Great-Great Grandparents & I have found them on the 1861; 1871; & 1881 Leebee Census of Oxford-on-Rideau Township {Oxford Township for short}; Grenville County; Ontario; Canada! Also, in "Who's Where, A Guide To The Cemeteries of Rideau Township" edited by Jim Kennedy and produced by the Rideau Heritage Board of Publication, Township of Rideau in 1980, Thomas KELLY & Hannah KELLY are listed as being buried in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Burritts Rapids, in B 10. The tombstones say......"Thomas KELLY died 28 Apr 1891 at age 90 years and Hannah KELLY died 15 Mar (Blank) age 78 years." Thomas Kelly was born about 1808; 1810; of 1811 according to this Census! According to his tombstone he was born about 1801 {Does anyone know why there would be such a discrepancy in his D. O. B. based upon the age that is listed? Also which would be more accurate; his age on his tombstone or one of three different ages on this Census?}! For some reason Thomas & Hannah KELLY's ages vary from each of the three Census' mentioned! Their children's ages and names also vary from each of these same three Census' ! Following is the Kelly family I am researching, which consists of approximately fifteen {15} children {With this many kids, I must still have some distant relatives living in or near this township & county}, born from about 1841 to 1866 in Upper Canada & Ontario, Canada {A twenty-five year span of time}: (1) Thomas KELLY; b. abt. 1801; 1808; 1810; or 1811 according to his tombstone and these three Census'! According to the 1871 Census of Ontario, his birthplace was in Ireland! At that time his age was sixty-one {61} years of age and his religion was listed as Church of England, Anglican. His occupation was listed as a Labourer. The 1871 Census of Ontario has Thomas KELLY residing in Leeds & Grenville, North District (070) & in the Sub-District of Oxford (E)! (2) Hannah {BROWN} KELLY; b. abt. 1814; 1815; or 1818 according to the age on these same three previously mentioned Census' in Upper Canada or Quebec! Their Children were as follows: 1. James KELLY {My Great-Grandfather}; b. 09, Sep., 1838 in Burritts Rapids, Grenville County; Upper Canada! 2. Susana KELLY; b. abt. 1841 in Upper Canada! 3. Mary KELLY; b. abt. 1842 in Upper Canada! 4. Sarah KELLY; b. abt. 1843 in Upper Canada! 5. Elizabeth KELLY; b. abt. 1845 in Upper Canada! 6. Neome KELLY; b. abt. 1847 in Upper Canada! 7. Kezeth KELLY; b. abt. 1848 in Upper Canada! 8. Maria or Mariah KELLY; b. abt. 1851 or 1852 in Upper Canada! 9. Safia or Sofia KELLY; b. abt. 1851 in Upper Canada! 10. (Residence-) Born in ONT, married JOHN ROSE. Parents: THOMAS & HANNAH BROWN (Rel - METH) WIT: IAS ROSE, MERRICKVILLE, THOMAS KELLY, OXFORD." "KELLY, MARTHA ON 09-01-73; Cert. # 007 325...of KEMPTVILLE (year/73..remarks..)..Age 20/ (Residence-) Born in Wolford T, married Edmund FULCHER. Parents: Thomas & Hannah KELLY (Rel-) Wit: Wm BROWN & Maria KELLY." "KELLY, JERUSHA ON 02-04-74; Cert. # 005 468...of MERRICKVILLE (year/74..remarks..)..Age 20. (Residence-MERRICKVILLE). Born in Burritts Rapids. Married JAMES ALBERT ROSE. Parents: THOMAS & HANNAH (Rel - METH) WIT: WM & CATHERINE ROSE!" I further discovered that Thomas KELLY appeared in the 1841 & 1842 Leebee Oxford-on-Rideau, Grenville County, Ontario, Canada Census as well as the 1840; 1841; and 1842 Leebee Assessments. However, Thomas KELLY does not appear in the 1848 or 1851 Leebee Census; nor in the 1844; 1847;1850; or 1851 Assessments! For about a seventeen (17) year period {From 1844 until 1861}, Thomas KELLY, disappears from Oxford-on-Rideau Township, Grenville County, Ontario, Canada, but Thomas KELLY appears again, with a wife and a family, on the 1861; 1871; & 1881 Leebee Census {Where was Thomas KELLY for that approximate period of time?}! I have also placed Thomas & Hannah KELLY's eldest son, James KELLY {My Great-Grandfather} on the 1861 Oxford-on-Rideau Leebee Census at age 23, just before he moves to Kent County, Ontario, Canada and marries Rebecca TOMPKINS, age 21 of Harwich, on 04, May, 1862 {Per Kent County Marriages 1857-1869-Vol. # 1}! James KELLY is, subsequently, placed on the 1871 Ontario Census as a 33 year old farmer of the Methodist Religion, living in Kent District; Harwich Subdistrict!
