According to "Who's Where, A Guide To The Cemeteries of Rideau Township," edited by Jim Kennedy and produced by the Rideau Heritage Board of Publication, Township of Rideau, in 1980, Thomas KELLY [My Great Great Grandfather & the father of my Great Grandfather; James KELLY] is listed as being buried in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery Burritts Rapids with his wife, Hannah BROWN KELLY. The transcriptions on the tombstone reads..."Thomas KELLY...Died...28, April, 1891 at age 90 years, and Hannah KELLY...Died 15, March, (YEAR IS BLANK?) at age 78 years!" Why the year of death for Hannah is not on the gravemarker {It is smooth as if it was never chiseled} is a mystery to me. Thomas KELLY's place of birth was listed on the Ontario Census of 1871 as Ireland. He would have been born about 1801 somewhere in Ireland. Since he died in 1891 would I be able to get a copy of his Death Record from the Archives of Ontario? If so, what would the cost be in U.S. dollars? Also what would these records contain? Are there any other Canadian records that I could acquire which would help me discover where Thomas KELLY's birthplace was in Ireland and who his parents were? According to the 1861; 1871; & 1881 Leebee Oxford-on-Rideau township, Grenville County Census Thomas & Hannah KELLY had the following 15 children: 1. James KELLY [My Great Grandfather & their eldest son-Born in Burritts Rapids on 09, Sept., 1838] 2. Susana KELLY [Born about 1841 in Upper Canada] 3. Mary KELLY [Born abt. 1842 in U. C.] 4. Sarah KELLY [Born abt. 1843 in U. C.] 5. Elizabeth KELLY [Born abt. 1845 in U. C.] 6. Naomi KELLY [Born abt. 1847 in U. C.] 7. Kezeth KELLY [Born abt. 1848 in U. C.] 8. Maria KELLY [Born abt. 1851 in U. C.] On 22, March, 1875 married John ROSE 9. Sophia KELLY [Born abt. 1851 in U. C.] 10. Jamima KELLY [Born abt. 1853 or 1855 in U. C.] 11. Jerusha KELLY [Born abt. 1855 or 1856 in Burritts Rapids] On 04, February, 1874 married James Albert ROSE 12. Martha KELLY [Born abt. 1857 in Wolford township, Upper Canada] On 09, January, 1873 married Edmund FULCHER 13. William KELLY [Born abt. 1859 in U. C.] 14. Thomas KELLY [Born abt. 1859 or 1861 in U. C. 15. Albert KELLY [Born abt. 1863 or 1866 in Ontario] The aforementioned children are not buried in Burritts Rapids Christ Church Anglican Cemetery. I wonder where they might be? Possibly, they may be buried in Merrickville; Kemptville; or another cemetery in Burritts Rapids. But where? Are there any descendants still alive residing in or around this area? The eldest son of these 15 children born between 1838 and about1866 {A 28 year span of time} was my Great Grandfather; James KELLY. He married Rebecca TOMPKINS [Daughter of Nathan TOMPKINS {Veteran of the War of 1812} who was the Son of Israel TOMPKINS [A well-known United Empire Loyalist]. James KELLY and Rebecca TOMPKINS were the parents of my Grandfather; Nathan Tompkins KELLY who was born 24, August, 1867 in Blenheim, Kent County, Ontario. Nathan Tompkins KELLY (At about age 14); James KELLY & Rebecca TOMPKINS KELLY immigrated to the United States in 1879 and ended up in Findlay, Hancock County, Ohio where my father; Luther James KELLY [First Generation American], was born in 1907.
