By 1870 Harvey and Louisa Kelley (census taker spelled it Kallie) were in Crab Orchard, Cumberland Co., TN. With then were five children: John Alexander (c. 1858), Mary (c. 1864), Walter (c. 1865) David (called Dick), James (c. 1870), and Rubin (c. 1875.) (Well, I guess Rubin wasn't with them yet.) It is said in more than one branch of this family that Harvey Kelley was originally known as ?? Dorsey and came from around Walhalla, Oconee County, TN. Eventually most of the boys and their children moved to Rockwood in Roane County. Mary married Francis Derrick and they stayed in Crab Orchard. Over the generations the family spread out and lost contact. Many were involved with mining and went to Kentucky, Virginia, and Ohio in the early part of the 1900's. I feel certain a number stayed in TN but older generations are gone now and contacts lost. There is quite some mystery surrounding the origins of Harvey Kelley and several of us who descend from John A. have "bumped into" each other on the web and found some success in comparing notes. We'd like to find descendants from the other Kelley siblings to see if they have other bits and pieces we can use to piece together our puzzle. Below is a rather vague outline of Harvey and Louisa's descendants. At this point there is little formal documentation but perhaps someone will recognize some of the individuals. I have removed more recent descendants for privacy but will be happy to correspond privately with anyone who thinks he/she may connect with this line.
