Here is my Roll Call: I am searching for any information on the surname TOMPKINS & KELLY from anyone who may be descendants or have any information on TOMPKINS & KELLY in KENT County from about the 1830's to the present. For some reason these TOMPKINS & KELLY's migrated from the Grenville County area possibly sometime between 1851 and 1871. Does any one know what the connection between Grenville County and Kent County might be & why there were a number of families who migrated between these two counties during this time frame? My TOMPKIN' s ancestor, Nathan TOMPKINS [My G-G-Grandfather], who is buried in lot # 346 Evergreen Cemetery, Blenhiem, Harwich township, Kent County, Ontario was born in 1796 & died at the age of 81 years on May 1, 1879. Nathan's wife Rebecca TOMPKINS is also buried in lot # 346 in the same cemetery and she died May 2, 1879 at the age of 82 years. My KELLY ancestors In Kent County were Nathan Tompkins KELLY [My Grandfather] who was born in Blenheim, Kent County, Ontario on 24, August, 1867. His father, James KELLY, [My G-G-Grandfather] was born 09, September, 1838, in Burritts Rapids, Grenville County, Oxford-on-Rideau Township. The 1871 Ontario Census lists James KELLY's birthplace as Ontario and his ethnicity as IRISH! According to the 06, June, 1900 U. S. Census, taken in Findlay Township, Hancock County, Findlay, Ohio, James KELLY became a naturalized citizen in 1879. His occupation on this census was listed as an oil rig builder and he was residing with his son Nathan Tompkins KELLY.
