Does anyone know what type of death; birth; baptismal; church attendance; or other records that this Anglican Church might have locally {at the parish level} or through the Ontario Anglican Church? Thomas & Hannah had approximately fifteen {15} children and I suspect that some of them may also be buried in this cemetery. Since this is a very small village which predates the Rideau Canal, I would assume that there are historical & genealogical records located some where that might assist me in my search {Perhaps Merrickville?} The time period that I am researching is from approximately 1838 {When their eldest son-my G-Grandfather was born in Burritts Rapids} to about 1891 {When Thomas Kelly died & was buried here & beyond}! Would anyone know of any Kelly's {possible ancestors} from this area who were Anglican? Thanks! Loren Kelly, An Irish Canadian American, Living In Texas! --part1_7a9b21af.2522dacb_boundary--

    3. Hi Michelle: I think you will find that there are *very strict* restrictions re who is entitled to use a *Coat* of Arms (this is an erroneous term - the correct terminology is "Achievement of Arms") &/or Crest. The Heralds (inspectors) have complete jurisdiction over who can & cannot display arms. They are located @: College of Arms in London, England. Among the *basic* rules that apply, when granting the right to display arms, by individuals are: #1 Must be *unquestionably proven*, the *direct* descendancy of an arms bearing ancestor in an "unbroken line of FIRST sons". That man alone can be assigned & legitimately display. #2 Other sons - after proof (as above) of Paternal decent, might be given a different, (altered) arms. Not identical to Father & 1st son. The right to display arms is not granted to a Family - only to an individual. Bev > > Can someone advise me whether the the Kelly crest can be used by any > Kelly family; or are there restrictions? Eh! Listers! My name is Loren G. Kelly and I am an Irish Canadian American, Living In Texas! I am researching the surnames KELLY & TOMPKINS! Most recently, while researching my KELLY-LINE, I have discovered the following: I am searching for descendants of Thomas KELLY & Hannah {BROWN} KELLY. These are my Great-Great Grandparents & I have found them on the 1861; 1871; & 1881 Leebee Census of Oxford-on-Rideau Township {Oxford Township for short}; Grenville County; Ontario; Canada! Also, in "Who's Where, A Guide To The Cemeteries of Rideau Township" edited by Jim Kennedy and produced by the Rideau Heritage Board of Publication, Township of Rideau in 1980, Thomas KELLY & Hannah KELLY are listed as being buried in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Burritts Rapids, in B 10. The tombstones say......"Thomas KELLY died 28 Apr 1891 at age 90 years and Hannah KELLY died 15 Mar (Blank) age 78 years." Thomas Kelly was born about 1808; 1810; of 1811 according to this Census! According to his tombstone he was born about 1801 {Does anyone know why there would be such a discrepancy in his D. O. B. based upon the age that is listed? Also which would be more accurate; his age on his tombstone or one of three different ages on this Census?}! For some reason Thomas & Hannah KELLY's ages vary from each of the three Census' mentioned! Their children's ages and names also vary from each of these same three Census' ! Following is the Kelly family I am researching, which consists of approximately fifteen {15} children {With this many kids, I must still have some distant relatives living in or near this township & county}, born from about 1841 to 1866 in Upper Canada & Ontario, Canada {A twenty-five year span of time}: (1) Thomas KELLY; b. abt. 1801; 1808; 1810; or 1811 according to his tombstone and these three Census'! According to the 1871 Census of Ontario, his birthplace was in Ireland! At that time his age was sixty-one {61} years of age and his religion was listed as Church of England, Anglican. His occupation was listed as a Labourer. The 1871 Census of Ontario has Thomas KELLY residing in Leeds & Grenville, North District (070) & in the Sub-District of Oxford (E)! (2) Hannah {BROWN} KELLY; b. abt. 1814; 1815; or 1818 according to the age on these same three previously mentioned Census' in Upper Canada or Quebec! Their Children were as follows: 1. James KELLY {My Great-Grandfather}; b. 09, Sep., 1838 in Burritts Rapids, Grenville County; Upper Canada! 2. Susana KELLY; b. abt. 1841 in Upper Canada! 3. Mary KELLY; b. abt. 1842 in Upper Canada! 4. Sarah KELLY; b. abt. 1843 in Upper Canada! 5. Elizabeth KELLY; b. abt. 1845 in Upper Canada! 6. Neome KELLY; b. abt. 1847 in Upper Canada! 7. Kezeth KELLY; b. abt. 1848 in Upper Canada! 8. Maria or Mariah KELLY; b. abt. 1851 or 1852 in Upper Canada! 9. Safia or Sofia KELLY; b. abt. 1851 in Upper Canada! 10. Jemimi or Jamima KELLY; b. abt. 1853 or 1855 in Upper Canada! 11. Jerusa; Jariusa; or Jerusha KELLY; b. abt. 1855 or 1856 in Upper Canada! 12. Martha KELLY; b. abt. 1857 in Upper Canada! 13. William KELLY; b. abt. 1859 in Upper Canada! 14. Thomas KELLY; b. abt. 1859 or 1861 in Upper Canada! 15. Albert KELLY; b. abt. 1863 or 1866 in Ontario, Canada! Some of their Children's marriages as abstracted from the Ontario Marriage Films of Kelly Marriages performed in 1873; 1874; & 1875 held at the LDS {Latter Day Saints Church} Library are as follows: "KELLY, MARIA on 3-22-75; Cert. #004 644...of KEMPTVILLE (year/75..remarks..)...Age 21. (Residence-) Born in ONT, married JOHN ROSE. Parents: THOMAS & HANNAH BROWN (Rel - METH) WIT: IAS ROSE, MERRICKVILLE, THOMAS KELLY, OXFORD." "KELLY, MARTHA ON 09-01-73; Cert. # 007 325...of KEMPTVILLE (year/73..remarks..)..Age 20/ (Residence-) Born in Wolford T, married Edmund FULCHER. Parents: Thomas & Hannah KELLY (Rel-) Wit: Wm BROWN & Maria KELLY." "KELLY, JERUSHA ON 02-04-74; Cert. # 005 468...of MERRICKVILLE (year/74..remarks..)..Age 20. (Residence-MERRICKVILLE). Born in Burritts Rapids. Married JAMES ALBERT ROSE. Parents: THOMAS & HANNAH (Rel - METH) WIT: WM & CATHERINE ROSE!" I further discovered that Thomas KELLY appeared in the 1841 & 1842 Leebee Oxford-on-Rideau, Grenville County, Ontario, Canada Census as well as the 1840; 1841; and 1842 Leebee Assessments. However, Thomas KELLY does not appear in the 1848 or 1851 Leebee Census; nor in the 1844; 1847;1850; or 1851 Assessments! For about a seventeen (17) year period {From 1844 until 1861}, Thomas KELLY, disappears from Oxford-on-Rideau Township, Grenville County, Ontario, Canada, but Thomas KELLY appears again, with a wife and a family, on the 1861; 1871; & 1881 Leebee Census {Where was Thomas KELLY for that approximate period of time?}! I have also placed Thomas & Hannah KELLY's eldest son, James KELLY {My Great-Grandfather} on the 1861 Oxford-on-Rideau Leebee Census at age 23, just before he moves to Kent County, Ontario, Canada and marries Rebecca TOMPKINS, age 21 of Harwich, on 04, May, 1862 {Per Kent County Marriages 1857-1869-Vol. # 1}! James KELLY is, subsequently, placed on the 1871 Ontario Census as a 33 year old farmer of the Methodist Religion, living in Kent District; Harwich Subdistrict! If you know of any possible descendants to my Kelly-Line, please e-mail me as follows: Loren G. Kelly An Irish Canadian American, Living In Texas! 3. Researching my great-grandmother, Ida Mae KELLY NACE. She was born in Atlanta, GA 4/28/1862, parents supposedly from County Cork, Ireland. She had several brothers, don't know if they were younger or older. She married William Wiker NACE also from Atlanta, GA and they later relocated to Tampa, FL in the early 1920's where they both lived until they passed away. There is some thought that the family might have come from Pennsylvania before they moved to Atlanta, GA. Although a family member recalls Ida saying, "I was born in Georgia, but conceived in Ireland." Would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks! Lyn .:*~*:.-.:*~*:.-:*~*:.-.:*~*:. 1. Looking for related Kelly's
    2. Tom & Pam Kelly
    3. Hi, This is most likely a shot in the dark. I'm just wondering if there is a possibility of your Kelly family being related to mine. The first Kelly in America that I have information on is my 4th Great Grandfather Lawrence Kelly born about 1740. He married Martha Smith on April 8, 1767. This marriage was performed and recorded by Rev. John Conrad Bucher. Most likely near Carlisle or Harrisburg in Pennsylvania. Lawrence Kelly was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and served in the Northumberland County Militia from 1778-1783. He was in Capt. John Forster's Company. This was the 1st Company in the 1st Battalion under the command of Colonel John Kelly. Colonel John Kelly born 1744 and is the son of John Kelly who died in Marietta, Lancaster County, PA. about 1756. Colonel John Kelly's father John Kelly is beleived to be the son of William Kelly. I have not found a connection between my Lawrence Kelly and Colonel John Kelly but I find it interesting that they both lived in the same areas. Lawrence & Martha (Smith) KELLY lived in or near White Deer Township in Northumberland County, PA. from 1775-1800. This area is just northwest of Lewisburg. (Union Co. today) Near Lewisburg are the towns of Kelly Point and Kelly Crossroads that are named after Colonel John Kelly. Since Colonel John Kelly was born (Abt. same date as Lawrence Kelly) in Marietta, Donegal Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. which is just across the Susquehanna River from Carlisle, Cumberland Co. I have long wondered if those Kellys are related to mine. The children of Lawrence & Martha Kelly are; 1 Hugh Kelly b.1768-1772 m. Margaret Ferguson (dau. of Thomas F.) Both died in Clark Co., IN. 2 John Kelly b. 1768-1772 1st. m. Nancy Ferguson (dau. of Thomas F.) 2nd. m. Elizabeth (Wheatley) Mills widow of Richard Mills. John & Betsy d. in Bartholomew Co., IN. 3 Abraham Kelly b. May 22, 1777 m. Hannah Bartley beleive both d. in Scioto Co., Ohio he in 1822 her?? 4 Martha Kelly b. 1777-1784 m. John Lewis she died after 1850. 5 Elizabeth Kelly b. 1778 m. John Barrett (?Berret) 6 William Kelly b. Feb.22, 1786 m. Margaret McClean (McLean) in Jefferson Co., Ohio both died in Hazel Dell, Cumberland Co., Illinois. 7 Davis Kelly b. Sept. 08, 1789 m. Hannah Mills (dau. of Richard & Elizabeth (W.) Mills) He died in Bartholomew Co., IN. and she in Hazel Dell, Cumberland Co., Illinois. This is my line that I descend from. Lawrence & Martha Kelly both died in 1823 in Blue Lick, Monroe Twp., Clark Co., Indiana and were the first to be buried in what became Mountain Grove Cemetery. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881/bluelickcem.html I beleive that my KELLY - SMITH families were among those Scots-Irish who migrated to Colonial America between 1718-1743. If you or anyone else has information that may help me find other related KELLY or SMITH Family members please contact me. Tom Kelly tpkelly@swbell.net
