He died when his wife ( Lily May Stevenson ) was pregnant with their last child ( my grandmother ). Thomas & Lily May had five children, all born in different states. I have been told this was because he was an engineer for the Katy Railroad, & they moved alot. Children: Blanche born in Nebraska m. Hugh Grigsby Emmet born in Mexico m.? Mary born in Texas m. ? Looks like we may have some new people on the list, so I am resubmitting my Kelly brick wall: On the 1880 Census, the following family was living in Yonkers, NY: Thomas H. Kelly, age 34, occupation, Bartender Maria (wife) age 32 George age 11 Kittie age 9 Frank age 7 Alice age 6 Charles age 3 The then 3-year-old Charles was Charles Augustus Kelly, who, in his adult life, married Mae V. Brennen, daughter of Thomas J Brennen and Bridget (Greeley) of Hastings-On-Hudson, NY. Charles joined the Yonkers Fire Department and rose to the rank of Captain, retiring in 1941, after 37 years of service. He was known in Yonkers as "Cap Kelly". He died 5 Dec 1965 in Yonkers. I need any and all information about this family...siblings, parents, ancestors, etc. In the Census, it indicated that Thomas was born in NY (abt. 1846) and his parents were born in Ireland. Maria was born in Canada (abt. 1848) and her parents were also born in Ireland. Please contact me at gskarka@att.com Regards, Gary W. Skarka
Nita- I am interested in your Kelly because of the name Emmet. It came up in my Kelly family too. I have a Nancy Hill married Samuel M. Kelley. Her daughter Mae named her son Emmet also. I think that Samuel was born in the 1838-1850. I also have hit a wall on my family. I know they lived in Arkansas and Louisiana. Rhonda nita dyar wrote: > I desperately need help with my Kelly line. I'm looking for family members related to LAURENCE KELLY and or MARTHA SMITH. Supposedly both LAURENCE KELLY and MARTHA SMITH were born in Southeastern Pennsylvania. LAURENCE KELLY was born about 1740 and MARTHA SMITH was born about 1742. They were married on April 8, 1767 in Pennsylvania most likely in Cumberland or Lancaster County. The exact location is not known. This marriage was performed and recorded by Rev. John Conrad Bucher. It is believed that Rev. Bucher first lived in Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA. then moved to Lebanon, Lancaster Co., PA. around 1768. (He also may have owned land in Northumberland Co.) From the Annals of Buffaloe Valley, PA., LAURENCE and MARTHA KELLY are listed in tax records as living in White Deer or Buffalo Township, Northumberland County, PA. in 1775-1778. This is near Milton & Lewisburg PA. (also near KELLY POINT and KELLY CROSSROADS in Northumberland County for those dates.) In 1813 this area of Northumberland Co. became Union County. 1778-1800 they lived on the east side of the Susquehanna River in either Turbutt or Chillesquaque Twp. During the Revolutionary War LAURENCE KELLY was a private in Captain John Forster's Company. This was the 1st Company in the 1st Battalion known as the Northumberland Rangers. In command of the 1st Battalion was COLONEL JOHN KELLY. It is very possible that LAURENCE KELLY and COLONEL JOHN KELLY are in someway related. How is not known. Perhaps first cousins or maybe even brothers. COLONEL JOHN KELLY was born in 1744 on (JOHN KELLY Sr.) his father's farm near Marietta, Lancaster Co., PA. The towns of KELLY POINT and KELLY CROSSROADS are named after COLONEL JOHN KELLY. LAURENCE KELLY and COLONEL JOHN KELLY both came to same area of Northumberland County around the same dates. In 1800 LAURENCE & MARTHA KELLY along with their children with their families moved west to western Pennsylvania and onto Ohio and Indiana. They were in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio from 1802-1809 (est.) Staying there only for a few years. Then about 1810-1813 LAURENCE and MARTHA KELLY along with their Sons and Daughters (Hugh, John, Abraham, Martha, Elizabeth, William, Davis) arrived in Blue lick, Monroe Township, Clark County, Indiana. Where LAURENCE & MARTHA KELLY both died and are buried. MARTHA (SMITH) KELLY died September 22 and LAURENCE KELLY died two days later on September 24, 1823 and they are buried at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Blue Lick, Monroe Twp., Clark Co., Indiana. For more information visit this web site. www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881/bluelickcem.html Anyone who has knowledge about these KELLY or SMITH Families in Southeastern Pennsylvania during the mid to late 1700's or anyone who feels they maybe related to Lawrence and Martha Kelly please contact me. Does anyone on this list know of any Kelleys in Yalobusha Co., Mississippi? About 1880 I think. Rhonda
I can't believe I haven't found a link with this family and it's only 2 generations back! I'm still looking for Samuel M. Kelley b:1858 in North Carolina (?). He married Nancy E. Hill born in Arkansas in 1851, d: 3/21/1930. I know the Kelley family relocated to Mississippi where their children were born. That is where I'm looking for a link. The children of this marriage were: 2. i. Morris F.2 Kelly. 3. ii. James H. Kelley, b. 1869, Mississippi; d. July 05, 1928. iii. Samuel W. Kelley, b. March 1870, Mississippi 4. iv. Walter S. Kelley, b. 1872, Mississippi. v. Frank Kelley, b. 1874, Mississippi. vi. Matilda D. L. Kelley, b. 1878, 5. vii. Mae Evelyn Kelley, b. January 10, 1879, Water Valley, Yalobusha Co., Mississippi; d. August 19, 1909, Oklahoma. 6. viii. Nellie A. Kelley, b. September 1880. 5. vii. Mae Evelyn Kelley, b. January 10, 1879, Water Valley, Yalobusha Co., Mississippi; went on to marry Samuel Hickman Weakley and they had their children in Noble, Louisiana (Sabine parish). Her children were Samuel, Emmett, and Evelyn. Do any of these ring any bells? Thanks Rhonda

We've hit a major brick wall and thought of a new approach, but need your help: If you have a Kelly or Kelley born PRIOR to 1790, and who lived in southern PA during their adult life, could you please let me know!? (Please, only these credentials). Please list them in the following manner, so that I can compile them and publish them--say in two weeks. Hopefully I, and somebody else, will find something. GIVEN NAME Kelly or Kelley (or other variation), approx. birthdate--guess even, county(s) of residence. Sample: ARCHIBALD Kelly, 1772, Cumberland>Indiana Hoping this takes us somewhere, Kathy Kelly

I have a book and it begins with a Joel Kelley, born c1775 in South Carolina. His wifes name was Letta (Darlton?). I had bought the book when I was hoping it would have some of the Kelly/Kelley lines that I was looking for. It didn't, but have kept the book just in case. It can still probably be bought. The book is titled "Joel Kelley" and it was written by Smith. On an inside page it says: Joel Kelley Ca 1775 - Ca 1862 By Paul & Alba Smith Industrial Printing Service Route #1, Arbor Hill Road Canton, Georgia 30114 September 1984 I bought mine in 1990, but would assume they would still have copies to sell. If you want to check it out there are two addresses in the book to write to place an order. Paul and Alba Smith Mrs Harold Kelley Rt. #4, Gantt Road OR Rt. #6 Box 647 Alpharetta, GA 30201 Cleveland, TN 3711 Hope this will help. Ramona Kelley
Howdy! Eh! Listers: Back in July of 1999, whenever I first went On-Line, I received an e-mail from Dorothy Howe Suri, who indicated that she was a fifth generation descendant of Naomi Kelly Howe Morgan, born February 8, 1845 in Burritt's Rapids, Grenville County, Ontario, Canada. At the time I was not aware that my G-Great Grandfather, Thomas Kelly & his wife, Hannah {Brown} Kelly had a daughter named Neome or Naomi Kelly, born in Burritt's Rapids around 1845 or 1847.
