I am inquiring about inquiring about my ancestors. The earliest facts I have are of a Peter Kelly and Mary Rowan from Mayo County, possibly Ardagh Parrish. Peter Kelly was born abt 1810-1815 and Mary Rowan was born abt 1815. They had three children: 1) Michael James b. January 6, 1845 Ireland d. August 10, 1907 Minneapolis, Minnesota. Married Anna J. Walsh on February 4, 1865 in Wisconsin, possibly Broadhead. Located in Green County wisconsin. They had 9 children. Ellen M. born in Broadhead, Wisconsin. Michael Walsh(welch), James B Kelly, Mary agnes, Anna, Thomas, George P, Edward M., and adaline Cecilia were borth in Fertile Twp, Worth county, Iowa during the late 1800's. I am unsure as to the origins of Michael Walsh (welch) ??? could possibly be from a previous marriage ???.. 2) Ann(a) B. abt 1850 Pennsylvania d. abt 1865 3) James b. abt 1858 Illinois Married Helen ???? well that is the info that I have as far back as I have. i would like to go back farther into my irish roots if possible and clear up some of the dates. If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Chris Kelly

My Great Great Grandfather was Thomas KELLY who is buried with his wife, Hannah KELLY, in the Burritts Rapids Christ Church Anglican [Church of England] Cemetery. It is possible that the same Church of England Family that you are researching who came to Canada from Amagh County, NRI in 1835 is the family of Thomas KELLY {My Great Great Grandfather} & his brother John KELLY. Thomas KELLY was born about 1801 and died in 1891, at the age of 90. Thomas KELLY can be found on the 1871 Census of Ontario as a Labourer of the Church of England, Anglican, religion, whose place of origin was listed as Ireland. On this 1871 Census it lists him as residing in Leeds & Grenville, North District, (070) and in the Sub-District of Oxford (E). I have placed Thomas KELLY in Oxford-on-Rideau Township, Grenville County, Ontario County as early as 1838 {When my Great-Grandfather James KELLY & his eldest son was born in Burritts Rapids}. Furthermore, I have citations from the 1840 assessment rolls & Census of Oxford-on-Rideau County that places Thomas Kelly at this same location. 1835 would be about the right time for him at the age of 34 to come to Canada via ship. My problem is that I have no information on Thomas KELLY & his family from 1838 back to Ireland. That being said, I have tons of information on Thomas KELLY & his family from 1838 to the present day, as I am directly descended from him through my paternal-line. If I had more information on Thomas KELLY & His family in Ireland I know I could probably find the ship that carried him over. I have already found several Thomas Kelly's on several different ships who came to Canada from Ireland during this time period. However, I am unaware of where he came from in Ireland & with whom. Before my father's sister {Laura KELLY Chesnutt} passed she informed me that Thomas KELLY had a brother John KELLY, but she had no information on him. I just recently discovered where Thomas KELLY was buried. According to several Oxford-on-Rideau Township Census' that I discovered, Thomas & Hannah KELLY had 15 children as follows: 1. James KELLY: My G-G-Grandfather; born 09, September, 1838 in Burritts Rapids, Oxford-On-Rideau Township, Grenville County, Upper Canada. 2. Susana KELLY: Born about 1841 in Upper Canada. 3. Mary KELLY: Born about 1842 in Upper Canada. 4. Sarah KELLY: Born about 1843 in Upper Canada. 5. Elizabeth KELLY: Born about 1845 in Upper Canada. 6. Neome or Naomi KELLY: Born about 1847 in Upper Canada. 7. Kezeth KELLY: Born about 1848 in Upper Canada. 8. Maria or Mariah KELLY: Born about 1851-1852 in Upper Canada. 9. Safia; Sofia or Sophia KELLY: Born about 1851 in Upper Canada. 10.Jemimi or Jamima KELLY: Born about 1853-1855 in Upper Canada. 11.Jerusa; Jariusa; or Jerusha KELLY: Born about 1855-1856 in Upper Canada. 12.Martha KELLY: Born about 1857 in Upper Canada. 13.William KELLY: Born about 1859 in Upper Canada. 14.Thomas KELLY: Born about 1859-1861 in Upper Canada. 15.Albert KELLY: Born about 1863-1866 in Ontario, Canada. As you can see the names that you describe in your post of James; Thomas; Elizabeth; William; & John are prominent in my KELLY family & my family is Church of England [A lot of my KELLY descendants went on to become Episcopalian Methodists & Methodists]. It is a distinct possibility that we are connected. I have more information that I can share. Please e-mail me or contact me on my Bulletin Board at "Kelly Irish-Canadian Korner!" Can I request a copy of a birth certificates of deceased relatives? Because I am no longer in touch with my fathers side of the family, I have really reached a brick wall. I had the idea to request his birth certificate, then track down his parents BC. Also has anyone had any luck doing the same thing with Baptismal Certificates. That seems harder as we are from New York and there are many parishes to choose from! Peace, KateyKC@aol.com Searching Surnames - Kelly, Shea, Hall, Shields McWilliams, Dooley
This is a 'longshot' as I am looking for the descendants of Frederick H Kelly. He could be still alive but the event took place over 60 years ago. In 1936 he submitted information to the LDS for the temple sealing records. It concerned the marriage of my gggrandfather James MORTON and Emma KELLY on the 1st May 1826 at Hanover Square, Westminster, London, England. I have been unable to confirm these details or find a parish register so I am hoping that somewhere there are still members of the Kelly family who may have some information. Margaret Parkes
Hi All, I just found out that my gr gr grandfather, Timothy Kelley, served as a private in the 1st Indiana Regiment, Co. B, Heavy Artillery, Co. B, in the Civil War. He is buried in Chalmette National Cemetery, outside of New Orleans, LA. There are two other Kelleys that suspiciously look like they may be relatives: Patrick (1st Indiana Regiment, Co. K, Heavy Artillery), and Samuel (1st Indiana Regiment, Co. K, Heavy Artillery). Apparently, this regiment started out in Virginia, and then fought battles in the New Orleans/Baton Rouge area starting in 1862. Since, on his death certificate, it states that Timohty Kelley came to live in New Orleans in 1862, I suspect he came to the city with the Regiment when it arrived from the east coast. (It sailed from Newport News, VA). He married Mary Coppinger about 1862, and my great grandfather, James William was born on July 10, 1863. He died on March 16, 1884 of turberculosis in New Orleans. He was 48 years old, and a cotton inspector by occupation. Can anyone connect? Colleen

My gg-grandmother was Mary Jane Kelley/Kelly b. 1 Dec 1838 (family records conflict as to whether she was born in Cocke Co. or Lincoln Co., TN.) On 10 Sep 1858 she married Philip Hall. They are found living near Philip's parents in Cocke Co. on the 1860 census. I have very little information on Mary, other than the following: 1. Her grandfather or great grandfather was named Obediah Hudson. 2. Her mother or grandmother may have been named Sara(h). 3. Philip bragged to their children that Mary had native american ancestry. 4. My grandfather noted that his father (Pleas) spoke of Mary having "two old maid sisters living in Knoxville, TN - one a doctor and the other keeping house for her." Mary and Philip had four children: Charles William Calvin b. 31 Aug 1859 Cocke Co.; Nancy Lucinda b. 11 Jun 1868 Lynchburg, TN; Amanda Bell b. 14 Oct `1872, Lincoln Co., TN; and Pleasant Castiller b. 11 Oct 1878, Jackson Co., AL. Mary died 12 Oct 1881 in Jackson Co., AL, and is buried in the Allison Cemetery near Big Coon Creek, AL. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone can offer.

>From Mike Kelly Kelly Clan Ass'n profned@bigpond.com Just a small tip. To calculate a rough date of birth of your William subtract 29 from the DOB of his eldest child. In this case that woud be 1824. The figure 29 is an average of three generations per century and 25 years per generation. This figure was given to me by the Genealogical Office in Dublin. Of course, this is an average and allowances must be made for early marriages, late marriages and, maybe the data doesn't give the correct order of birth. Hello, I have been reading with fascination the posts about Lawrence Kelly etc. I have a William Kelley b. 1814 Virginia married Eleanor Bennett b. 1820 in Ohio. They were married in 1839 in Shelby County, Indiana, and had 11 children. The older 10 were born in Shelby County but the youngest was born in Brown County. There is a Benjamin Kelley b. 1780 in Virginia living with them in the 1860 Shelby County Census. I have William listing 3 school age children in a tax list for Shelby County in 1864 and that is the last contact I have with the family except for my great-grandfather William Perry Kelley who moved to Howard County. William and Eleanor's 3 oldest son's were of an age to have been in the civil war but can find no evidence that they did. Tis a puzzlement. Maureen Johnson (Kelly)

and others on email list..... Dear Kyle, Thank you for contacting me. Perhaps there is a connection. NO one to my knowledge has been able to find parents for Lawrence Kelly. Nor do we know of brothers or sisters. Surely he must of had. It would be very uncommon for a family during those years to have had only one child. I feel there is an answer out there somewhere and one day we will find out more. How interesting the facts you tell me. We need to work together and share more information in order to answer some of these questions. Could you please give me more details on your Kelly family. Please be more specific! My Lawrence Kelly, his wife, and the families of thier children went to Blue Lick, Monroe Twp., Clark County, Indiana. It is beleived they took a flat boat down the Ohio River or went by horse & wagon along the river banks and landed at Utica. Some arrived as early as 1810 and the others came shortly after. Tho it is hard to be certain, It is beleived that all were in this general location by 1820. The 1820 Census shows Lawrence Kelly in Clark County Indiana, also youngest son Davis Kelly. The others are hard to tell for certain. Because those early census do not list names of other family members in household we can't really determine which John Kelly or William Kelly belongs to who. Note there are other John and William Kellys there in Clark County. I did take notice of the Anthony Kelly in the census record for 1820. I would love to know more about him and his family and those related to them. Maybe there is something to find. Interesting that your family left Clark County and went to Johnson County Indiana. What year did they leave Clark and which persons? Some of my Kelly line went to Bartholomew County Indiana. A few early in 1839 and then others by 1850. Some also went to Morgan and Decatur county. All are near neighbors to Johnson County. Is there something to this? If your family left Clark County around the same years, I wonder what was the reason. According to Daniel Guernsey, he wrote in his diary that there was lack of food and much hardship after 1838. Davis Kelly died in Azilia, Bartholomew Co., Indiana. Supposedly he drownd in a river on June 11, 1847 and is buried at the Azilia Methodist Cemetery. According to a War of 1812 record, in a Declaration of a Widow for Pension, from the National Archives, Hannah (Mills) Kelly, wife of Davis Kelly, signed and testified on this document dated March 26,1872 that she was married to Davis Kelly on the First day of December in the year 1812 by James Davis Esq. in Indiana Territory. This document was also signed by, her son in law, Dr. Benjamin F. Little, and a granddaughter, Sarah A. Carruthers. Look farward to hearing from you, and others in hopes to find other relatives and ancestors.
