Hi Linda, I'm probably not the best to give advice on this matter. I only made one trip over and that was back in 1985. I was searching Murphy/Kelly My pggm was Julia Kelly of Clearagh (local name for a spot on a hill) RC parish of Kilmurry, township of Crookstown. It is between Cork City and Macroom on N22 highway. The Irish Tourist Board puts out a wonderful book of B and Bs . To get in the book they all have a limit of two rooms to a bathroom. All serve the same breakfast throughout the land. A great one. In Crookstown My late wife and I stayed at Lissarda House right on N22 in Crookstown. Wonderful place with 14 foot ceilings, built during the American civil war. Had a grass tennis court. Doubt if it is still available, the couple were on in years then. In 16 days never had bad situation. A word of advice--Go in Shannon. Gets you used to driving on the right for a while before you hit Dublin--5 lanes of traffic and many one way streets. Few B&B's there in the city. The Kellys and Murphys are the Smiths and Joneses of Ireland. You have your work cut out for you. Good Luck. Jack Murphy
I am thinking about going to Ireland esp. County Cork to do some research this summer. Does anyone have any advice about places to stay that are reasonably priced-rental car agencies , general advice about research, etc? I have a copy of a newspaper clipping from a Greene County, GA paper, dated Thursdey, April 16, 1868, which reads as follows: DROWNED Mr. John KELLEY, one of the oldest citizens of this county, was drowned in the Oconne River, one day last week. It is thought he fell from a bateau while fishing. Mr. KELLEY was the grandfather of J. F. HALL, of our city. (I assume this was Greensboro) This John KELLEY/KELLY was my g-g-grandfather. The J. F. I haven't posted my line in awhile. I am looking for the parents and siblings of Henry Kelly who was born in South Carolina in August 1796. He died in Giles Co., TN. in January 1887. His first wife has not been identified, but she died in Limestone Co., Alabama probably during the 1820s. Henry married second Mahaly Smith in Giles Co., TN. 27 July 1835. She died in Giles Co., TN. 2 June 1877. Then, Henry married as his third wife, Mrs. Luvicy Hunter in Giles Co., TN. 7 March 1878. She died in 1890. She was a Cherokee Indian also known as Flower Hunter, who was born in South Carolina in 1799. Henry Kelly is the son of John Kelly. He is thought to be the John Kelly of Laurens Co., South Carolina, Limestone Co., AL., Bedford Co., TN. and possibly Lincoln Co., TN. I am trying to find a link to prove or disprove that John Kelly is the son of Nelson Kelly who was born in Virginia abt 1730. He died in Bedford Co., TN. in 1818. Nelson married Elizabeth Jefferies in Stafford Co., Virginia 4 November 1751. Any help with this would be appreciated. Jim W. Kelly
