    1. David O'Killea & Jane Powell, 1650 Massachusetts
    2. Some family genealogy books and numerous Kell(e)y searchers have recorded in their data that David O'Killea, the Irishman, and Jane Powell were married in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts in the 1650-1670 time period. I recently wrote to the Clerk's office in the town of Yarmouth requesting a copy of the marriage record. I received a reply that, after a search of the records in that time period, they could find no mention of David or Jane. Have any of the numerous descendants of David and Jane on this list ever located evidence to support this marriage allegation? If so, where? Jim Kelly jkelly4425@aol.com

    1. RE: Bridget Kelly - N.J.
    2. Skarka, Gary W, CFGRE
    3. Your posting caught my attention. My Kelly line covers some of the same surnames and in at least the same part of the country. Thomas H. Kelly, b. ca. 1846, in NY, m. Maria(h) Ryan, b. ca. 1848, in Canada. The 1880 census shows them living in Yonkers, Westchester Co., NY. Thomas is listed as a bartender. The census also indicates that both Thomas and Maria(h)'s parents were born in Ireland. They had five children born between 1869 and 1878, George, Kittie, Alice, Frank and Charles. Charles married Mary Veronica (Mae V.) Brennen, daughter of Thomas J. Brennen and Bridget Greeley of Hastings-On-Hudson, Westchester Co., NY. I thought with our Ryans, Kellys and Brennen(an)s and a daughter named Kittie there might be a connection. Does this ring any bells with you? Gary Skarka -----Original Message----- From: Karen Howland [mailto:flinxk@bulkdist.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 05, 2000 9:44 AM To: KELLY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Bridget Kelly - N.J. Hello fellow KELLY decendants, I am trying to find some information on Bridget Kelly, married to John Ryan. I don't know that much about Bridget, this is what I do know: Bridget and John lived in the Camden County area. They attended the Emmaculate Conception Catholic Church. Their son James was baptized there in 1861 and then married there in 1884 to another Bridget(Cunningham). Bridget and John's other children were Edward b.in 1857 d.1934, and Mary Ellen(Slavin) b.1863 d.1910. We think there is other children also, but haven't pinned that down yet. Bridget Kelly Ryan died in1891 and is buried at Calvery Ceme. in Cherry Hill,N.J. along with all the others mentioned and more that weren't. I know there are hundreds of Bridget Kelly's and John Ryan's for that time period, but does anyone have a tie in with my line? Let me know. Karen Surnames: KELLY,RYAN,CUNNINGHAM,BRENNAN,PATTON and ROY.

    1. 1866 Letter From Ireland
    2. Lynne K Ranieri
    3. One of the few things handed down to me through my Kelly and Kelty families is this 1866 letter from Ireland, sent to Patrick Kelly (married to Catharine/Kitty and living in New Jersey), from his brother in, apparently, Roscommon County in Ireland. I do have not yet much genealogy on the Kellys, but perhaps this letter will have some historic or genealogical interest to other Kelly researchers? Lynne March 10th 1866 Dear Brother, I received your letter the 20th February, which was a comfort to me to hear of you being in good health and also James and Johnny, not forgetting Kitty and all the young Kellys. As this leaves us at present, thanks Be to the Lord for his mercies to us. Also Brother Jonnys children and their worthy mother. She is such a credit to all the Friends. The love she had for her husband she has proved that to her children. Let Billy Elwood Know that Pattsy Laley Rides the black little gennet to Kilmurry Every Sunday. He is such a lazy fellow. Brother Micky is going on well. He (has) A very Easy place. His sons is very good boys. He has five sons and three daughters. Pattsy Laley is doing well also. He done his endeavour to turn over Micky since he came there. So did his wife and family, but it faild them. Mic Cally has got a place in the Demense of Strokestown. We expect ease for some time until he can spare another son. John Rafferty is ading to his store and He knows how to care (for) it. His wife and children are in good health. We buried Bartly Kelly the week before this. He died without making a will though being worth 8 hundred pounds. Patt, your letter was not opened until I got it write to Tulsk. As usual James Kelly is the Post Master. At present the mail rout is changed. It goes by Elphin and Frenchpark and Castlerea to meet the train. James Cahill is still living in Fuerty, but he has got a new master, John Nealen, a Very honest man. He is doing well. At present he has five sons and 3 daughters. His sons are Very wise. Your favourite Mic will be the stoutest man. The oldest boy, John, was here with me since after I getting your letter. Patt, with regard to our markets = Potatoes from 1 pound - 6 pence to 2 shillings, oats from 10 pounds to 12 pounds. Sheep and pigs was never seen so dear. In Ireland there is bad sale for Cattle unlis they are fat milks. Cows are very high, in consequence of the cattle plague that is rageing in England. I hope it will remain that system ye got up in America. (America) has ruined Ireland. The young people are all emigrating. That is not in the hands of the othorities. I would answer your letter sooner but my arm got hurt. Write again soon. No more at present. From J - K until Death. Good by. I must go out to mind the Ewes. Remember me to all the Friends.

    3. Hello cousin Jane, Yes, I'm still around and at my same old address for as long as I am able to keep it. Which I hope is a long time because I want persons like yourself to find my postings and then contact me. I have been working on family history for about six years now and have collected a good amount of information. Also I must give credit to my other relatives for passing their records on to me. Without their help I would have a much tougher time putting these families together. I do enjoy working on genealogy and meeting distant cousins. I beleive you have a few mistakes in your information. Here is what I have. Hope this helps you. Thomas L. Dean born abt. 1811 (occupation; Carpenter) Married; July 7, 1835 in Clark County, Indiana to Mary E. Lewis born abt. 1813 daughter of John & Martha (Kelly) Lewis. Granddaughter of Lawrence & Martha (Smith) Kelly. Sources; Clark County, Indiana Marriage records. 1840 Census record, Clark County, Indiana page 312. Thomas L. Dean 1850 Census record, Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana page 186. Thomas L. Dean 39, male, Carpenter, born in Kentucky Mary E. Dean 37, female, born in Kentucky (?) Martha J. Dean 9, female, (error KY.) correct location- born in Indiana 1860 Census record, Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana page 418. Thomas Dean 50, male, Carpenter, born in Indiana (Kentucky is more likely) Anna Dean 40, female, born in Indiana (this person could be Thomas' second wife) Martha Dean 18, female, born in Indiana (dau. Thomas & Mary E.) Edward Dean 8, male, born in Indiana Willie Dean 7, male, born in Indiana (note the age difference between Martha -vs- Edward & Willie, possible that Mary E. (Lewis) Dean died shortly after the 1850 census and Thomas Dean remarried) I am not certain of their where abouts after 1860. Do you have something that shows them in Jefferson County, Ohio? And how about Missouri? Any death records or grave stones found? Would be glad to help you more. Can you give me an idea of how much you know about them and those that descend? 1. Kelly--John, William--KY, TN, VA
    2. Hi All! I'm trying to find any information on the following Kellys: William Nicholas Alexander Kelly, b. ?1871 ?1881--married Sarah Fee He was raised in TN, according to his son, George (my grandfather), but also lived in Knox County, KY, for a time, and had a tobacco farm in Lee County (Pennington Gap? Big Stone Gap? Norton?), VA. My grandfather was raised in Lee County, so I don't think William spent much time in Knox County. Went by the name of Bill or WNA Kelly. John Kelly--William's father. Found one possibility in Claiborne County, TN--as son of an Edward Kelly and Rebecca Sargent (Sergent). Listed in 1850 and 1860 census. Age would be right, but at this time I have no confirmation that this is the John I'm looking for. Lost family after 1860 census--haven't figured out yet where they went. My grandfather said that John lived to be 96 years old, and that he was in the Civil War. Other than this information, I really don't know much else. I hope someone can help me. My grandfather lived most of his adult life in Harlan County, Kentucky. I'm assuming at this point that the Kellys I'm looking for would be in that tri-state area of VA-TN-KY. Thanks for any help! Theresa

    1. Fort Worth TX , USA --- Public Library -Tornado Damage 3-28-00
    2. Received this on another list. Thought it might be of interest to anyone who has travel plans. To one and all; As many of you know Fort Worth was hit by a tornado this past Tuesday. The Fort Worth Public Library did sustain damage. At this time the library is closed both to the public and staff. All the glass in the building was blown out; the air conditioning system was destroyed and there is water damage. The rare books section of the Genealogy/Local History/City Archives has had water damage. We have not been able to get back into the library to see if there is structural damage. Please advise one and all that if you are planning a research trip to the Fort Worth Public Library to phone before you come. We are hoping that the staff will be able to get into the building on Monday. I will keep this LISTSERV updated on the conditions of the library and collection. If anyone has any questions please have them email me at the address listed here. Sincerely, Shirley Apley, Senior Librarian Genealogy/Local History/City Archives Fort Worth Public Library 500 West 3rd Street Fort Worth, TX 76112

    1. Indiana County, PA, Pittsburgh and Muskingham Co, OH
    2. Hello: Seeking any living descendants of the following family originally from Indiana Co., PA: Julia C.P. Gilhuyser (b 1875), d/o Benjamin Gilhuyser (b 1835) and Isabella McCurdy (b 1833), married LEWIS BLAIR KELLY (b 1878). They lived in Indiana County and had, as near as I can tell, the following family as taken from census information and Julie's obit: 1900 Census Benjamin Gilhouser (Gilhuyser on 1880 census), 65 Julia, daughter, b. Dec. 1875, age 24 Arthi or Arthur, grandson, b. Feb. 1895, age 5 (Julia's?) Harry, grandson, b. Feb. 1898, age 2 (Julia's?) 1910 Census Benjamin Gilhuyser, 75, head, b. PA Sarah, wife, 52, b. OH (his second wife) Benson, Mary, 40, daughter, b. PA Benson, Walter, 38, son-in-law, born England Benson, Harry, 12, grandson, b. PA (adopted by Bensons?) Miller, Cecil K., 12, stepson, b. OH 1920 Census (Julia and Lewis may not have married until after 1910) Lewis B. Kelly, 43 Julia C.P. Kelly, 44 Virginia E. Kelly, 9 Susan M. Kelly, 6 Joseph W. W. Kelly, 3 Nellie or Nallie V. Kelly, 1 According to Julia's 1949 obit she had the following sons: Harry of Pittsburg (Benson?) Jesse of Pittsburgh Joseph of Muskingham County, OH (Lewis Kelly, her husband, was deceased) Based on the above information it appears that Joseph would indeed be a Kelly, and born about 1917. Harry may have the surname Gilhuyser, Kelly or Benson, and was born 1898. Jesse is not listed, and may not have been born until after 1920. No tidbit too small. Kathy Kelly

    2. Thanks Betty, I will try that...Don't think thats the case here though. According to my Grandmother (John Kelly's Daughter), his mother Elizabeth (Duncan) Kelly just didn't have time for him or his sister. She was too busy maintaining her "Social Status" and he had servants that took care of him on a Plantation. Problem is I can't find them....or the Plantation. So, here it is again if anyone see anything that might ring any bells please let me know. The name he went by in Oklahoma was Thomas Kelly, but his real name is supposed to be William Mandrew Thomas Kelly DOB unknown death was-5-1947 his 1st wife Pearl Leoner Owens DOB 6-15-1882 to 1-1-1919 died with child. they had three children 2 Girls Eulah, 11-5-1903 to 5-19-1977, Mable 4-30-1913 death unknown at this time. 1 son Harvey Benjamin 4-28-1910 to-15-1967 after the death of pearl, W.M.Thomas Kelley dropped one of the e's and went to Kelly. A story was told to the youngest son of Harvey's on Harvey's death bed. That Thomas was running from the law in 2 states. The 1st State is unclear he thinks it was either Alabama or Mississippi. I haven't been able to place him in either state. The 2nd State he supposedly ran in to trouble was in Kentucky. Then Harvey said they went to Ark. That is were Pearl is buried, ( so this would have been around 1919) then moved on in to Oklahoma and that is where Harvey made his home. However, W.M.Thomas Kelly married a Thrasher and they moved on to Texas and that is where both girls lived their lives and died. If this rings any bells let me know. Stephanie
