Anyone on the List who might be tracing a line from Mississippi in the 1800's. Would be happy to hear about your line and possibly put something together. Bobby Kelly

Just heard on the Radio that there is another computer virus going around. If you get an email titled "ILOVEYOU, don't open it! delete it right away. I had someone try to send it to me today. Thanks Patti

Thanks everyone! Here is my story, and below is some info I found on "John Kelly's" that may or may not be mine. But may be yours. My Great Grandfather's name is John Louis Kelly b. 4/4/1876 d. 4/29/1949. My Grandmothers birth record says her father was born in Knoxville, TN. His Marriage License says his parents are J.M. Kelly and Elizabeth Duncan (guessing that they would have married in 1870s and that they were born around 1850s). He told my grandmother that he was named after his father. And his wife thought so too, because she put on the death certificate that his father was John L. Kelly (all from TN). Here is a bigger problem....John Louis Kelly ran away at the age of 14 and never contacted his family again, Story is...His Parents owned large Plantation (can't find it.) Mother wore "fancy dresses" and went to lots of party's. She had servants care for the children. Only thing Grandmother remembers is that he had a sister named Mae (or May) and she is the only sibling that he mentioned throughout his life. He didn't like talking about his childhood and didn't offer any information. I sent away for Social Security Application for a John Kelly b. 4/4/1879 and got a John Wesley Kelley's App. It states his parents as Jonathan Kelly and Anna Belle Baskins and that he was born in Lauderdale Co. Ala. He applied for Social Security number in Waynesboro, Tenn. I found an obit (dated Feb. 1, 1923) for John L Kelly age 64 in Chattanooga buried in Mt Olivets Catholic Cemetery and the dates seem right but it states that he was in the plumbing business. The obit didn't give the wife's name but I called the Cemetery and they told me his wife's name was Lila (sp?) and she is buried with him. And this John L. Kelly had daughter named Margaret. (really thought this could be the one, but the occupation is way off). I have the book "Hamilton County Pioneers" by John Wilson and it talks about the John Kelly's and Kelly's ferry. Another possibility, but doesn't mention a John Kelly born about 1850s. Hope this helps someone! Patti
Hello, I am looking for an Ann/Anne/Anna KELLEY/KELLY, born: abt. 1695-1700, died: abt. 1634. She may have had a brother named Alexander KELLEY/KELLY She was married to William JENNINGS, Jr., born: abt. 1695-1700, (son of Mary WILLOUGHBY and William JENNINGS, Sr.,) and William JENNINGS, Jr. died one year prior to Ann KELLEY's death. Ann and William were each abt. 33-34 when they died. Ann and William had 4 or 5 children including my 5th great grandfather, Edward Salley JENNINGS, born: abt. 1720, and their one daughter, Martha JENNINGS, upon their death was bound out to an Alexander KELLEY/KELLY, who was probably her uncle. I would like very much to find information on this KELLEY/KELLY family. Thank you. Sincerely, Bellinda Myrick - Barnett
Thought I would post one more time before I pull all of my hair out... I am looking for John Kelly married to Elizabeth Duncan around 1870. Can't find, so, at this point I would be interested in any John Kelly from Tennessee married to anyone. Thanks! Family reunion is less than 2 weeks away and I was hoping to have something for them. Patti
Patti, You sound like me! I, too, am looking for a John Kelly--but I don't know if it's Tennessee, Kentucky, or Virginia--he lived in all three. Would your John have had a son named William Nicholas Alexander (who went by Bill, or William A.), born in 1871? According to my grandfather (William's son), William said he "grew up" in Tennessee. But William was born in Lee County, Virginia, and at the time of his marriage (1891), he lived in Bell County, Kentucky. On his marriage license (married Sarah Fee, in Lee County, VA), his parents are shown as "J and E Kelly." Our John lived to be about 96 years old (again, according to my grandfather), and died in the 1940's. Theresa
Listers: Anyone have a Porter Kelly in their line? The LDS has one born abt 1839, Indiana County, PA, and one who married Kate Jones in 1867 in Missippi. These are the only Porters listed. Could be the same person?
I finally get to post something else after all these years. Nobody has ever come close to my Kellys and I have been just monitoring this list, reposting my info every 3 months. Here it is again: KELLY / KELLEY; CAN>Kings Co.,NY,USA; 1858- KELLY in Brooklyn and elsewhere. SEEKING IN 1870 Census or elsewhere: As listed in 1860 Census in Brooklyn, NY: Daniel Kelly - born. ca. 1833, Canada. Occupation - Moulder\\Welder\\Blacksmith wife: Mary Jane McCormick b. 1840 NYC children in 1860 - Joseph 7 months. Brother: Joseph (younger) same occupation. Jane's sister: Ann Elizabeth All above disappear before 1865 NYS census. Then they do not appear anyplace in NYS . Additional info on family. But the following stayed in Brooklyn: Parents: Cornelius (58) & Flora (56) Kelly (living w/ Daniel in 1860.) Younger Cornelius was an Attorney Plus sisters: Cecilia & Bridget More Sisters: Mary J. McKinney, Ann Hooley and families. Thanks

I have brought in parts from home to repair some of the readers at Varick St. The trouble to requisition a part not listed (or even listed) is a day's work in it's self. I have been a proponent of paying a small fee at the door at the NARA in NYC. After seeing what these people are put through over the phone and by mail, besides those newbies who make outrageous demands at the desk, it may scare away those who are not PROPERLY prepared for serious research. Plus, consider how much the collection has grown in just the past 10 years! It used to cost me $7.00 plus to go to Bayonne, NJ, in 1984, before they moved to NYC in 1992. The NYC MA charge $5 to rent the micro-film readers and $5 for "certified copies." I live in NYC and do not expect my tax dollars to pay for this. All other municipalities have similar fees no top of their taxes. The microfilm machines at the NYPL are always broken. They are free too. What has happened is that Genealogy has gotten so much easier and faster with the use of the Internet, that many forget when we depended solely on these government sources. Now, they are faced with the cost of upgrading to be computer and Internet friendly. I can now go to the NARA with every reel number in my hand before leaving home, just because they have the catalogs on-line. All I am concerned about with the NARA is that they keep ALL of them open. They were considering closing the NYC and the nearest would have been Philadelphia. If paying more for copies keeps it open, I'll pay with a smile. Anybody who has tried other countries are shocked to find that things are not available. I couldn't understand why I couldn't get access to the 1920 Australian census, through a family member in Sydney. I told them to use the "Freedom of Information Act" like we do. He reminded me that they do not have a Bill of Rights in Australia and cannot make such demands. Be Thankful we have a country that let's us discover our past and doesn't hide it from us. Mike Mc

By 1870 Harvey and Louisa Kelley (census taker spelled it Kallie) were in Crab Orchard, Cumberland Co., TN. With then were five children: John Alexander (c. 1858), Mary (c. 1864), Walter (c. 1865) David (called Dick), James (c. 1870), and Rubin (c. 1875.) (Well, I guess Rubin wasn't with them yet.) It is said in more than one branch of this family that Harvey Kelley was originally known as ?? Dorsey and came from around Walhalla, Oconee County, TN. Eventually most of the boys and their children moved to Rockwood in Roane County. Mary married Francis Derrick and they stayed in Crab Orchard. Over the generations the family spread out and lost contact. Many were involved with mining and went to Kentucky, Virginia, and Ohio in the early part of the 1900's. I feel certain a number stayed in TN but older generations are gone now and contacts lost. There is quite some mystery surrounding the origins of Harvey Kelley and several of us who descend from John A. have "bumped into" each other on the web and found some success in comparing notes. We'd like to find descendants from the other Kelley siblings to see if they have other bits and pieces we can use to piece together our puzzle. Below is a rather vague outline of Harvey and Louisa's descendants. At this point there is little formal documentation but perhaps someone will recognize some of the individuals. I have removed more recent descendants for privacy but will be happy to correspond privately with anyone who thinks he/she may connect with this line. Hello, I am new to the list and as everyone else am hoping to find some missing links in my past! I am looking for my family from New Brunswick and Bantry area, Cork Co. Ireland. Philip and Patrick were from Bantry, Cork Ireland. Their father was believed to be Patrick Kelly. Philip was born in about 1806 and came to NB, Canada in 1826. He married Katherine Grattan/Gratton. They are my G G G Grandparents. Patrick Kelly married Anne Fitzpatrick in NB. I dont know if he came over with Philip in 1826. They may have had a brother named Lawrence too. It was written on a peice of paper that there were 13 of them that came in 1826, but I dont know if they were all family. Philip and Catherine had... Patrick 1836 m. Hello Listers: Does anyone have any KELLY Surnames that they are researching in Ontario...Specifically Kent; Grenville; Peterborough; & neighboring counties from about 1835 to 1900? My G-G-Grandfather, Thomas Francis KELLY died on 28, April, 1891 at the age of 90 in Belmont Township. He is buried in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery in Burritts Rapids, Grenville County, Ontario next to his wife Hannah BROWN KELLY. Thomas KELLY's place of birth on the Ontario Census of 1871 was listed as IRELAND. His religion was listed as Church of England - Anglican and his occupation was listed as a labourer. Thomas & Hannah KELLY had about 15 children between 1838 and 1866 according to the 1861; 1871; & 1881 Leebee Oxford-On-Rideau Township, Grenville County Census as follows: 1. James KELLY: [Their eldest son {My Great Grandfather} born in Burritts Rapids on 09, September, 1838] 2.Susana KELLY [Born about 1841 in Upper Canada] 3.Mary KELLY [Born about 1842 in U. C.] 4.Sarah KELLY [Born about 1843 in U. C.] 5.Elizabeth KELLY [Born about 1845 in U. C.] 6.Naomi KELLY [Born about 1847 in U. C.] 7.Kezeth KELLY [Born about 1848 in U. C.] Married Edmund FULCHER on 09, January 1873 13.William KELLY [Born about 1859 in U. C.] 14.Thomas KELLY [Born about 1859 or 1861 in U. C.] 15.Albert KELLY [Born about 1863 or 1866 in Ontario] I do not know where the above children are buried. They are not buried in the same cemetery as Thomas and Hannah KELLY. I only know of the listed marriages. James KELLY, the eldest & my G-G-Grandfather moved to KENT County for some unknown reason. He married Rebecca TOMPKINS {Daughter of Nathan TOMPKINS (A veteran of the War of 1812) who was the son of Israel TOMPKINS (A well-known United Empire Loyalist from Stillwater New York who settled in Augusta and Wolford Township in Grenville County Ontario). James KELLY and Rebecca TOMPKINS were the parents of my Grandfather, Nathan Tompkins KELLY, born about 24, August, 1867 in Blenheim, Kent County, Ontario. Nathan Tompkins KELLY (At about age 14) with his parents & family immigrated to the U.S. in 1879 and settled in Findlay, Hancock County, Ohio, where my father, Luther James KELLY (First generation American) was born in 1907. My research quandary is: 1. Where have all of the other KELLY's gone? 2. Why did Thomas Francis KELLY die in Belmont Township [Peterborough County} which is a great distance from Burritts Rapids, Grenville County, Ontario and end up buried in Grenville County? 3. Why did James Kelly leave Grenville Canada and migrate to Kent County, Ontario? 4.Why would James KELLY & his family leave Canada to immigrate to the U. S. in 1879? 5.How can I locate these other 14 children of Thomas & Hannah KELLY's descendants and what happened to these 14 children? HELLO; Do I have any relatives OUT THERE? --part1_5a.3bf641a.262673f4_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hello, I am searching for information regarding my 6th great grandmother who is believed to named Ann/Anne KELLY/KELLEY, who was born: bet. 1695 - 1700 in Virginia, probably. Most likely she was born in or near either Old Rappahannock, VA area or in Richmond, Virginia. Ann/Anne KELLY/KELLEY married my 6th great grandfather, William JENNINGS, Jr., born: bet. 1695 - 1700 in Virginia, son of Mary WILOUGHBY, parents: ?? and William JENNINGS, Sr., born: abt. 1670 in Virginia, son of Margaret PAYNE and John JENNINGS, born: abt. 1633 in England, and emigrated to Old Rappahannock, VA. Margaret PAYNE was the daughter of Margrett ROBINSON, daughter of Richard ROBINSON, and Sir John PAYNE, born: abt. 1615 in England, and emigrated to Old Rappahannock, VA. My above mentioned Ann/Anne KELLY/KELLEY probably had a brother named Alexander KELLY/KELLEY as he was the person to whom, Martha JENNINGS, the 5 year old daughter of Ann/Anne KELLY/KELLEY and William JENNINGS, Jr., was bound out' to upon the early death of her mother Ann JENNINGS, abt. 1733, when at the age of abt. 33/34 years of age she died just a year following the death of her husband, William JENNINGS, Jr., at an equally early age. Her daughter, Martha JENNINGS, had 3 or 4 brothers including my 5th great grandfather, Edward Salley JENNINGS, born: abt. 1718, who eventually married Sarah MOORE, parents: ?? Edward Salley JENNINGS was first 'bound out' to his uncle, Augustine JENNINGS, but, perhaps, may have then been 'bound out' to another relative....I am unsure....but I think may have been William JORDAN. Edward Salley JENNINGS and Sarah MOORE were the parents of my 4th great grandfather, John JENNINGS, Sr., born: abt. 1748 in VA, married Rachel JORDAN, possibly daughter of William JORDAN, and John JENNINGS, Sr. and Rachel JORDAN were the parents of my 3rd great grandfather, Bailey/Baley JENNINGS, born: abt. 1789 in VA, and he married Kitty EARLE. Kitty EARLE, daughter of Tabitha WILLIAMS, (daughter of Catherine and George WILLIAMS, (Colonel?,) and Samuel EARLE, IV, (Sgt./Rev. My above mentioned Ann/Anne KELLY/KELLEY probably had a brother named Alexander KELLY/KELLEY as he was the person to whom, Martha JENNINGS, the 5 year old daughter of Ann/Anne KELLY/KELLEY and William JENNINGS, Jr., was 'bound out' to upon the early death of her mother Ann JENNINGS, abt. War,) 2nd son named Samuel, IV, of Samuel Noah EARLE, III, (Major,) and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth HOLBROOK, born: 1733 in VA, daughter of Randolph HOLBROOK, son of Randolph HOLBROOK and wife, Mary WILCOXSON. Samuel Noah EARLE, III, (Major,) was the son of Samuel Noah EARLE, II, and his wife: Phillis/Phyllis BENNETT/BENNET, and Samuel Noah EARLE, II, was the son of Samuel Noah EARLE, I, and Bridget HALE/HAYLES, daughter of Thomas HALE/HAYLES, and Samuel EARLE, I, was the son of Mary SYMONS and Sir John EARLE.
