Hi rooters, I'm looking for any information on Hugh C Kelly born 2/5/1801 in Sparta, New York and died 2/5/1879 in Pontiac, Michigan. He married Jane Carney born abt 1803 NY and died 3/13/1894 in Pontiac, Michigan. Both were buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Pontiac, Mi. What I'm trying to find out his who were their parents and how did they get to Michigan (what route). Their children were James Z Kelly, William F Kelly, Hugh C Kelly Jr and John P Kelly. All were born in Sparta,NY except William who was born in Pontiac in 1834. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Sylvia syllink@aol.com
I'm here Sally, but I am afraid I can't help you with your Malinda L Kelly or the census list for that state. My Ellen Kelly and family were all Ireland to NYC and that is where they stayed. Sorry, but at least we now know there are two of us here! Happy hunting!

Hi List, I am a new subscriber to this list and would like to ask your help in finding the birth date and date of death of Mary Elizabeth KELL(e)Y Smith, my great-great-grandmother. Mary Elizabeth was born Circa 1853 and died Circa 1879-80 in San Jacinto County, Texas. She married Benjamin Franklin (Frank) SMITH June 9, 1872, in San Jacinto County, Texas. Her first husband's name was Green RIVES. Mary Elizabeth and Frank had three children: Mary Melissa (Minnie) Smith, b. May 21, 1873. Mollie Rhoda Smith, b. April 26, 1877. Henry Lee (Roy) Smith, b. December 16, 1878. I think that all of the children were born in San Jacinto County, Texas. Mary Elizabeth died when the children were very young. I would deeply appreciate ANY help you may be able to provide. Regards, Lynn

Married Edward Caughlin in about 1869 had five sons, John dob 1870, Charles dob 1872, Edward dob 1874, Daniel dob 1876 and Frances dob 1878. Oral history has her a direct ancestor to Grace Kelly. Would love any and all information, Thanks Kathie of Chesapeake, Va.
Found this on another list - very informative! In case you ever wondered why a large number of your ancestors disappeared during a certain period in history, this might help. Epidemics have always had a great influence on people - and thus influencing as well, the genealogists trying to trace them. Many cases of people disappearing from records can be traced to their dying during an epidemic or moving away from the affected area. Some of the major epidemics in the United States are listed below: 1657 Boston Measles 1687 Boston Measles 1690 New York Yellow Fever 1713 Boston Measles 1729 Boston Measles 1732-3 Worldwide Influenza 1738 South Carolina Smallpox 1739-40 Boston Measles 1747 CT,NY,PA,SC Measles 1759 N. Amer [areas inhabited by white people] Measles 1761 North America and West Indies Influenza 1772 North America Measles 1775 N. Amer [especially hard in NE] epidemic Unknown 1775-6 Worldwide [one of the worst epidemics] Influenza 1783 Dover, DE ["extremely fatal"] Bilious Disorder 1788 Philadelphia and New York Measles 1793 Vermont [a "putrid" fever] and Influenza 1793 VA [killed 500 in 5 counties in 4 weeks] Influenza 1793 Philadelphia [one of the worst epidemics] Yellow Fever 1793 Harrisburg, PA [many unexplained deaths] Unknown 1793 Middletown, PA [many mysterious deaths] Unknown 1794 Philadelphia, PA Yellow Fever 1796-7 Philadelphia, PA Yellow Fever 1798 Philadelphia, PA [one of the worst] Yellow Fever 1803 New York Yellow Fever 1820-3 Nationwide [starts Schuylkill River and spreads] "Fever" 1831-2 Nationwide [brought by English emigrants] Asiatic Cholera 1832 NY City and other major cities Cholera 1837 Philadelphia Typhus 1841 Nationwide [especially severe in the south] Yellow Fever 1847 New Orleans Yellow Fever 1847-8 Worldwide Influenza 1848-9 North America Cholera 1850 Nationwide Yellow Fever 1850-1 North America Influenza 1852 Nationwide [New Orleans-8,000 die in summer] Yellow Fever 1855 Nationwide [many parts] Yellow Fever 1857-9 Worldwide [one of the greated epidemics] Influenza 1860-1 Pennsylvania Smallpox 1865-73 Philadelphia, NY, Boston, New Orleans} {Smallpox Baltimore, Memphis, Washington DC} {Cholera [A series of recurring epidemics of:} {Typhus {Typhoid {Scarlet Fever {Yellow Fever 1873-5 North America and Europe Influenza 1878 New Orleans [last great epidemic] Yellow Fever 1885 Plymouth, PA Typhoid 1886 Jacksonville, FL Yellow Fever 1918 (high point year) Influenza Worldwide more people were hospitalized in WWI from this epidemic than wounds. Looking for researcher Tim Kelly who posted a query on the Ramsey Co. MN page on March 26th, or any other researcher working on this KELLY family. Some of what I believe about our family comes from census records (1880 NE), some from obituaries and county histories etc. It is probably not 100% accurate, but as close as I have gotten so far. I believe our William Daniel was called Daniel, though perhaps those were references to a brother instead, in which case cousins could be listed as siblings here. He may have had brothers Daniel and Patrick also in the St. Paul area. I am attaching a copy of my Ramsey County query, please let me know if it looks like we could connect. We first find them in Illinois in 1853, then in St. Paul by 1857 until 1861 or 62. If these look like your folks, I look forward to hearing from you. Jo Newkirk-Hornecker Descendants of William Daniel Kelly, Sr. 1 William Daniel Kelly, Sr. b: ca. 1835 in Ireland. +Mary Casey or Corey b: Unknown in Ireland ........ 2 Mary Kelly b: 1853 in Illinois ........ 2 Michael C. They appear to have been in St. Paul from about 1856 until 1861 or 62. The family were devout Catholic, I believe those who were born in MN were baptized there.
I am looking for Richard Kelley (Kelly) b circa 1750 in England possibly Kent or Gloucester? He came to America in 1768 on the English ship Justin and married Maria Gibbs. They had nine-children in Virginia, notably: Benjamin Franklin Kelley b 4 mar 1784 (m Nancy Yancey). Any information on Richard or his ancestry would be greatly appreciated. Please reply with responses, Mike Kelley
I don't know a lot about my gr-gr-gr-grandparents and their family, but here is what I know. If anyone knows anything more about this family, please e-mail me! Or if they have advice on how to find information on the O'DONOVAN family in Co. Cork, it would be REALLY appreciated! Jeremiah DONOVAN (maybe O'DONOVAN-ROSSE -- was his mother a ROSSE?) married Mary KELLY before 1845. We know it was in County Cork, but not sure which village. My gr-gr-grandmother's obit says she was born near Queenstown, which I know to be Cobh. Another cousin says that Jeremiah and Mary were married in Skull (Schull?). I don't know which is correct, though. They had 9 children, all but the youngest one or two were born in Ireland. These are the children, as nearly as I can figure their order: Mary (m. Peter Hagerty WALLACE), Jerry (never married?), Joe (never married?), John (m. Mary FOLEY, Anna "Nancy" (m. Joseph FEENEY), Ellen (never married?), Michael (never married?), Timothy (m. Ella KORTHIUS), Katherine (m. Patrick SULLIVAN). Katherine may have been the one born in Illinois. Around 1860, the oldest daughter, Mary was sent to the U.S. to earn enough money to bring the rest of the family here. She settled in Joliet, Illinois. When the family had enough money, they came -- all but the son Timothy who was 2 years old and had some sort of rash or something, so he stayed in County Cork with friends or relatives. Finally he came to the U.S., too, but his older brothers made fun of him because he "talked funny", so he went to Iroquois County to live with his sister Mary. Mary had met and married Peter Hagerty WALLACE (s/o Thomas WALLACE & Esther HAGERTY) and settled with him in Danforth or Ashkum. They had children of their own, but they took Timothy in, and sent him to the MERKLE school (on property donated by another of my ancestors).

Hi I have just started researching my family on my Dad's Side. I have various bits of info: My Great Granddad was Michael Kelly a School Master in Elphin in the late 1800's early 1900's, he was married (to Possibly Anne or Catherine I'm not sure) and had a large family. His eldest Son was called Gilly(?) and was born in approx 1900, I believe he moved to Boyle, (the reason for this is my Dad visited family with his parents in the early 1960's, and they stayed in Boyle. My Granddad was called Gerard Alfonses (the spellings are probably not correct), he married Teresa May (Mae) and they had a son Gilbert before moving to Corsham, Wiltshire, England, where they had a further 4 Sons (including My Dad, Donald Declan). My Gran Teresa also came from a very large family, I know very little about her family, 2 of her Sisters were Nuns and emigrated to Australia (one was called Sister Benedict). She also had a Brother Dennis who emigrated to Sydney Australia and became a Postman. I know that Michael Kelly is buried in a grave yard in Elphin (I've seen it!). I believe that all of the above mentioned people were Catholic. If anybody is able to help me with further information i.e. names, date's, locations etc I would be very grateful. Thank You Katie Kelly katie@queenfield.freeserve.co.uk
I have some info on Kelly families in Ohio. If interested contact Wolfdm35@prodigy.net
OK Kelly line....someone please make my day and provide some information on my Kellys: Looking for the siblings, parents, ancestors of Thomas H. Kelly and his wife Maria Ryan. In the 1880 Census, they show up in Yonkers, NY. Thomas H. is 34 years old (i.e. b. ca. 1846) and Maria was 32 (1848). They have five children: George, age 11; Kittie, age 9; Alice, age 8; Frank, age 5; and, Charles, age 3. Thomas' occupation is listed as "Bartender". He was born in NY and his parents were born in Ireland. Maria was born in Canada and her parents were born in Ireland. According to family recollection, Maria's name was pronounced "Mariah". Our line comes through their son Charles. He married Mae Brennen (yes, "en"). They lived their lives in Yonkers and Charles rose to the rank of Captain in the Yonkers FD. Charles died in 1965 and Mae died in 1976. They had two children, Charles C. Kelly, b. 1923, d. 1968, and Mildred Kelly, b. 1925, d. 1969 (m. John Eremerich). Any information will make us SOOOOOOOOOO happy! Gary Skarka
I am researching the Philadelphia Kelly's. My great grandmother's name was Catherine (Kate) Kelly and she was born in Phila. on 8/1849 (maybe 1850) She married an Edward Caughlin in about 1868-69 and lived at 2722 Dauphin St.. There she had five sons, John, Charles, Edward, Daniel and Francis. Edward Caughlin owned and operated a butcher shop at 2400 Master St. Any information , especially regarding Catherine' parentage would be greatly appreciated. Oral history has her related to Grace Kelly, Thanks, Kathie
