The 1850 Census shows that he was born in Virginia but was living in Burr Oak Township, St. Joseph County, Michigan at the time of the census with his wife Nancy, daughter Mary J., and son John M. and John M.'s family (wife Jennie and children Harrison, Hannah, and John J.)
