Hi All, This is not a person I am connected to, but while researching, I located some KELLY info: (Quote) p. 510 JAMES KELLY versus JOHN LANIER. JAMES represents that JOHN LANIER claims that JAMES KELLY killed a beef that was not his own; asks that LANIER be punished for an attempt to hurt the reputation of the petitioner, who luckily had several witnesses present when he killed the said beef, who can testify that it was the petitioner's brand and no other. Witnesses: DANIEL STRICKLAND, JOHN LOCKHART, JOHN REED, JAMES McILHANEY & JOHN KEETING. 14 Sept. 1796. Signed JAMES KELLY // ISAAC JOHNSON, Esq. will take cognizance of this matter and make inquiry. Sig: GAYOSO.// Second Creek. Deposition of JOHN LANIER and above-named witnesses, also WILLIAM RATCLIFF, JAMES IRWIN, WILLIAM ALEXANDER, MARTHA KEETING, CHARLES REED, SOLOMON H. WISDOM. // Whereas the evidences produced were against the petitioner, he is proved guilty of charge and he is to remain in confinement for eight days time, within which he is to produce what he has to allege in his favor.
