Rev Benjamin Kelley is my 3rd g-g'father. I've recently been to Ohio County, KY and retrieved info from the Clerk's office. Also have some of the correspondence between Lyman Draper and C J Kelley and B H Kelley. These letters haven't been transcribed as yet. Any info that I have is available. My ancestry runs down from Benj Kelley to David J Kelley to Ben Kelley to Lafayette Kelly (when the 3 Kelly brothers went to Washington State between 1881 and 1889 the second E was dropped for reasons unknown to me) Pat Kelly __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Dear Cousin Pat, Yes, my ancestor, James Kelley, was a brother of the Rev. Benjamin Kelley of Bedford County, Virginia. A very small portion of the Draper Manuscripts are available online, and we are lucky that Benjamin Kelley's adventures are included. To see the original microfilm pages, go to: American Journeys Advanced Search: http://www.americanjourneys.org/search.asp And in either of the search fields provided, enter the following (including the quotation marks): "ben* kelly" The result of the search is the following microfilmed document: Jackson, Joseph: Recollections on Capture by the Shawnee, 1778 Would you be able to send me copies of the letters you mentioned? I have also heard that John Kelley and Ann Rush are parents of James and Benjamin Kelley, but I've never been given the proof and I've never found the sources. What names do you have for the 9 children of John Kelley and Ann Rush? At one time, I subscribed to the Rush family list, and I also did a lot of digging around, but I have never found the Rush family connection. The reasons provided by various Kelley descendants are that "Rush" is a middle name for several of the Kelley descendants who lived in Kentucky. That makes sense, but where was Ann Rush from? What are the sources? Also, there is an old family story that the "Rush" connection has to do with Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. I don't believe this is true, but someone could prove me wrong. Here are some websites with the Biography of Benjamin Rush: http://www.benjaminrush.com/ http://etc.princeton.edu/CampusWWW/Companion/rush_benjamin.html http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/signers/rush.htm And finally, if you want more, here are results of the Google search: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=RNWF,RNWF:2 004-46,RNWF:en&q=Benjamin+Rush Very tantalizing information, to say the least. I've been researching my family for about 30 years and I can say that without a doubt, these Kelleys seem to have "magically appeared" in Virginia in the early 1700s.
