Has anyone run across the name Commodore in their Kelly line? I am running out of leads and looking at the middle names of descendants of my Hawkins-Kelly line. One son was named Joseph Commodore Kelly. His mother was Eliza A. Hawkins Kelly b. 1826 SC. m. 1850 Benton Co., AL to Samuel S. Kelly/Kelley b. 1826. SC. Any help appreciated.

You may have found this 1870 census record already, but just in case you haven't: I believe I've found your family in the 1870 Etowah Alabama Census: Kelley, S. S., age 43, b. SC, Farm laborer " , Eliza A., age 43, b. SC, keeping house, " , Wm., age 19, b. Ala., Farm laborer " , Jos., age 16, b. Ala., Farm laborer " , Eilen, age 10, b. Ala. " , Mary, age 8, b. Ala. " , Jas., age 2, b. Ala. And at the top of the next page, the enumerator spelled the surname: Kelly, Jno. B., age 36, b. SC, Farm laborer If this is the correct family, then your Joseph was born about 1854 in Alabama.
