From: Raymond Kelly To: Ken Shirley Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2005 12:38 AM Subject: KELLEY/KELLY Surname DNA Study Hi Ken, Thank you very much for spreading the news about the KELLEY/KELLY Surname DNA Project. That is what I should be doing but I have been spending every waking hour developing The KELLEY/KELLY DNA Website to display the Results and Analysis and Participants Family Information. It is hosted on freepages at Rootsweb. I have all the pages coded and uploaded but I am having great difficulty implementing the Application Form and the Pedigree Chart Form to send the information to me via E-Mail. As soon as I get those two problems solved we will be ready for prime time. Fortunately we have a very patient lady Pat Asher at Freepages Help, who is helping me get through the process. We have Results from 13 Participants back and we have 3 pairs of 12 Marker Matches. People who now know they have a common KELLEY ancestor. With an ancestor named John Kelly in the 1780's in NC and Virginia, DNA testing is my only hope for figuring out which John was my ancestor. My ancestor John Kelly had a son John and each of his brothers had a son John as did most of those Kelley/Kelly familys that I have tracked from Maryland and Pennsylvania into Virginia, NC, SC, Georgia and Alabama. I wish they had been a little more creative in naming their sons. Go to the current FTDNA hosted page http://www.familytreedna.com/public/kelley and have a look at the Results. It will be much more meaningful when you can see the Participants Family Pedigree Forms which I hope will be real soon. Would like to hear from you as time permits. I know things can be busy. Ken Shirley [descendant of Nathan Hiram KELLEY b1822] ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Ken Shirley <[email protected] > Date: Apr 13, 2005 8:32 PM Subject: KELLEY family genealogy [Benjamin b1784, m Nancy YANCEY, etc.] To: [email protected] Kathleen, I am writing to a fairly old email address, so I hope it gets to you. You might recall that we corresponded several years ago regarding the KELLEY and YANCEY families. Would like to make contact with you again. Below is information about the KELLEY family DNA Project [for genealogy purposes] in which I hope your husband, Richard, will be willing to participate. I have done it with the SHIRLEY DNA project and it has been very helpful. Hope to hear from you. Ken Shirley Grantville, KS (785) 246-3024 [email protected] ================================================ Time to join the KELLY/KELLEY DNA Project! KELLY/KELLEY DNA Project -- below is a copy of a posting by Ken Shirley [trying to find LANE participants]. I have updated it so that it applies to the KELLY/KELLEY DNA Project. The KELLY/KELLEY DNA Project is Raymond KELLY at the following email address: [email protected] He will be happy to help you start to simple process of becoming a KELLY/KELLEY DNA project participant. ---------------------------------------- To: All KELLY/KELLEY descendants/researchers, but in particular those of Tennessee counties of Robertson, Montgomery, Warren, McMinn (among others); Illinois Counties of Franklin and Williamson; Kentucky county of Lincoln; South Carolina county of Greenville Purpose: Seeking male KELLY/KELLEY descendants for the KELLY/KELLEYDNA Project [ at FamilyTree DNA.com ]. From: Kenneth W. SHIRLEY [descendant of Nathan Hiram KELLEY b1822 Robertson Co. TN, son Benjamin KELLEY b1784 (m Nancy YANCEY)--Benjamin the son of Richard KELLEY of Greenville Co. SC 1790s. There is a KELLY/KELLEY surname DNA project already in place at FamilyTreeDNA.com . You can contact Raymond KELLY directly and he will see to it that a DNA kit is mailed to the name and address you give him. Follow the instructions received with the kit, then mail it in to FamilyTreeDNA along with payment, and wait for the results. It is a simple and painless procedure--brushing the inside of your cheek with a "cotton swab-like" collector. Be sure to include information about your earlier KELLY/KELLEY ancestors. It is my understanding that the results would be sent to the participant and a copy of the results to the DNA project coordinator [Raymond] who would post the results [anonymously], along with the name of your earlier PROVEN male KELLY/KELLEY ancestors, at the KELLY/KELLEY DNA project website. Your results can then be compared with other project participants. You can check all this out with Raymond, if necessary. You might mention that I had contacted himr recently about the KELLY/KELLEY DNA project. A few reminders: The KELLY/KELLEYLANE DNA project must be a MALE with the surname of KELLY/KELLEY [or any variation, or a male who thinks he might have descended from a male KELLY/KELLEY ancestor]. Female KELLY/KELLEY descendants/researchers can assist greatly by recruiting male KELLY/KELLEY DNA project participants and/or assisting the male participants financially with the cost of the DNA testing. There are three levels of DNA testing available for what we are doing [the 12-marker test, the 25 marker test, and the new 37 marker test]. As we discussed, the more markers the better--whatever you feel you can do financially. The more markers the more expensive the test, but the more you have to compare among branches of the KELLY/KELLEY family. I did the 25-marker test with FamilyTreeDNA on my SHIRLEY line some time ago and plan to upgrade to the 37-marker test before long. As I also mentioned, you can get details on the DNA testing, etc. from Group Administrator, Raymond KELLY. Please note that I am in no way affiliated with the DNA testing company, FamilyTreeDNA, and am just trying to find participants from my KELLEY line. Hope to hear soon that you have sent off for the DNA test kit, and shortly after that--that you have mailed in the kit for analysis. Thanks for your interest.
