Lay, born SC in 1824 married for the second time in Leake County, MS on 12/12/1861 to Hannah C. Kelley, daughter of Enoch S. Kelley and Sarah Green Kelley. Hannah C. Kelley was born in Wilcox County, Alabama in 1846. Hannah Kelley and M.C. Lay had at least nine children born to this marriage: Sarah Emma, Henry W., Martin N., James A., Mary, Jesse N., Willie M., Charles F., and John Rufus.
