    1. RE: [KELLEY] Daniel Kelly - New York

    3. Hi - I have info on the O'Killia family of CT and MA and found this in my files for Daniel/Jemima: 'A Genealogical History of the Kelley Family: descended from Joseph Kelley of Norwich, CT, with much biographical matter concerning the first four generations, and notes of inflowing female lines' Cleveland, OH, 1897, 168 pgs: Daniel's birth date/place and marriage date. 'Daniel left his home for the wilds of NY to join his brother-in-law, Silas Stow, in Oneida (now Lewis) Co. .. 'On May 28 Mr. Kelley writes to his wife from Leyden, NY, Black River ... in 1798 the family joined Daniel.' Page 45: 'He was not tall and was rather slightly built. His thin silver hair was combed back and bound by a black ribbon, wound around the braid, which hung in his neck like a queue. His manners were gentle, grave and dignified. . . . . He was always called Judge Kelley when I knew him.' By his granddaughter, Mrs. Bates. I do not have any further info on Daniel b 1802 Lowville, Lewis Co., NY. I believe I accessed the above book on Godfrey Lib., Heritage Quest site. I do not believe this Daniel is from the O'Killia line. He is from John Kelley b 1615 Exeter, Devonshire, England d 24 Dec. 1644 Newbury (Ipswich), Essex Co., MA marr. Nancy BISHOP b c 1619 Newbury, Essex Co., MA > John KELLEY b 02 July 1642 Newbury d 21 March 1717/18 Newbury marr. Sarah KNIGHT b 23 March 1647/48 Lynn, Essex Co., MA d Newbury, Essex Co., MA, etc. My line is Benjamin KELL(E)Y b c 1772 (re census) NY, moved to Wayne Co., PA by 1822. Cannot connect him to any of the Kelly families - yet! My grandmother, Edith Amanda Nichols was the child of Aubra Nichols and his wife Amanda Kelley. Amanda's mother, Emily, was in her daughters household at the time of the 1875 New York State Census, but until now I have not been able to find her father. But there they are, in the 1860 census for the town of Montague in Lewis County, NY: Daniel Kelley age 60, farmer Emily, age 52 William, age 19, farmer Amanda, age 16 Hough's History of Lewis County gives a short biography of a Daniel Kelley, an early settler of Lewis County and a prominent person. He was born in Norwich, CT, 27 Nov 1755, son of Daniel and Abigail Kelley. He married Jemima Stow. He came from CT to Lewis County NY in 1798. His youngest son was named Daniel - perhaps Amanda's father. An article in the New England Historic and Genealogical Society's 1916 issue of the Register, lists a Daniel and Philip Kelly of New York among Redeemed Captives, taken by savages 20 Aug 1746. I don't know how or if this relates. Is anyone researching this line? Do they connect with the David O'killia descendants? Any help will be greatly appreaciated. ==== KELLEY Mailing List ==== Your KELLEY "listowner" is Paula Kelley Ward.
