    3. The Social Security Death Index is available free at several websites: Rootsweb has the latest version of the SSDI, which is updated monthly. It can be searched for free at: http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi The RootsWeb.com SSDI database has more search features than the others, and it is the same database as the one used at www.ancestry.com. Even more information is available at www.worldvitalrecords.com, where the free SSDI database is updated regularly, and every zip code for a deceased person's last residence is geo-coded to a detailed map of the area (and may pinpoint the location of any cemeteries nearby). Even though World Vital Records is a subscription website, the SSDI is free: World Vital Records - SSDI database is FREE at: http://www.worldvitalrecords.com/indexinfo.aspx?ix=ssdiall The above information is from: "ONLINE RESOURCES for Finding Living Relatives, Part I: Introduction," by William Dollarhide, published in Genealogy Pointers (10/16/07), a newsletter.
