He died in 1960 when I was 4, so I barely remember him. I was named after him, and grew up less than a mile from his homestead. He is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Troy, Ala., and though we don't make it back too often, I visit there each time. My mom was buried in the same cemetery a couple of years ago. Kathy and I live in Texas and have four children. Two are studying in college, and the youngest two are in high school. We moved here from Georgia almost nine years ago. I'm on the faculty at Baylor and Kathy is a quilter and volunteer. My sister and her family also live in Texas. My other two siblings live near in Alabama.
