He was also born in Barnstable Co., NY according to his oldest son Daniel. Plus Daniel said his father had five brothers who were Whalers and all were lost at sea. Also Heman and Ruth's last child a son they named Joseph Heman,was born after Heman had died in the fall of 1835. Joseph Heman was born in May of 1836. So I have thought for years that Heman was possible his middle name and Joseph was his first name. Somebody has to know somewhere.
