KELLEY - 1921-2008 CORTLAND-- Charles R. Kelley, 87, of Cortland died Wednesday, July 23, 2008. Mr. Kelley was born July 12, 1921, in New Castle, Pa., the son of Charles F. and Hazel A. Ralston Kelley. He married Myrtle S. Alexander on Dec. 22, 1940, and together they shared 52 years of marriage. Charles served our country in the Army during World War EE with the 42nd Rainbow Division, Military Police Platoon. His decorations and citations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Unit Award, European-American Theator Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He participated in the Rhineland and Central European campaigns. Mr. Kelley retired from Packard Electric, Plant Eleven, in 1986 after 16 years as a machine repairman. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting and accumulating many badges and pins over the years. His true love was being a avid model railroading enthusiast, and collecting trains, especially of the "O" gauge. Charles is survived by his son, C. Thomas Kelley and his wife, Linda D., of New Cumberland, W.Va.; two daughters, Linda M. Kelley of Louisville, K.Y., and Patricia K. McLaughlin of Jupiter, Fla.; three grandchildren, Cheryl A. Armes, Brian C. Kelley and Scott T. Kelley; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle, on Dec. 6, 1993, and by his brother, Merie L. in 1973. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 N. High St. Cortland, and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 West Falls, New Castle, Pa. Funeral Services be at 11 a.m. Monday at the J.Bradley McGonigle Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
