I recently posted my descendancy from Michael KELLY and Mary COLLINS of County Clare, Ireland. I recently commisioned the Clare Heritage Centre to do a research on my FLANAGAN and KELLY lineage from Clare. I'm happy to say that I just recently received their very nice and comprehensive report. I thought that I would update this for you. It has one more generation back from Michael and Mary. ( I got two additional generations out of the COLLINS line <GRIN> ). I included only two generations this time, since the other information is still valid. Here is my update now I can say I descend from Michael KELLY and Bridget LEARY: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FIRST GENERATION 1. Michael KELLY was a farmer. He resided in Cahermaan, Killeany, Clare, Ireland. This old Civil Parish of Killeany is part of the ecclesiastical Parish of Lisdoonvarna. He appeared on the census in 1901 in Commons South, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. He was living with his son, Michael. He was married to Bridget LEARY. Michael KELLY and Bridget LEARY had the following children: +2 i. Michael KELLY. 3 ii. Margaret KELLY was baptized on 27 Apr 1856 in Lisdoonvarna, Clare, Ireland. Her sponsors wer John BURNS and Mary FLYNN. 4 iii. Mary KELLY was baptized on 26 Sep 1861 in Lisdoonvarna, Clare, Ireland. Her sponsors were Michael and Margaret RAFFERTY. 5 iv. Bridget KELLY was baptized on 14 Apr 1864 in Lisdoonvarna, Clare, Ireland. Her sponsors wer Pat LEARY and Mary LEARY. SECOND GENERATION 2. Michael KELLY was born in 1860 in Co Clare, Ireland. Mary Brigid KELLY FLANAGAN listed his birthdate as 1865. He was a farmer on 26 Apr 1897 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. He resided - on 26 Apr 1897 in Commons South, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. He appeared on the census in 1901 in Commons South, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. He could neither read nor write, but spoke Irish and English. His age was given as 40. The home was described as having stone walls, a thatched roof, two windows to the front and three rooms. He died in 1943 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. He was a Farmer. He was very strict "with the girls." He was first married to Mary COLLINS (daughter of Patrick COLLINS and Ellen LYNCH) on 26 Apr 1897 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. They were married in the Roman Catholic Church by Father Michael O'DONOVAN, who was the Parish Priest in Corofin. He was listed as "full age". Witnesses at the marriage were John NESTOR and Nora KEARNEY. Mary COLLINS was born in Jun 1870 in Co Clare, Ireland. She was baptized on 25 Jun 1870 in Booltiaghadine, Clare, Ireland. Her sponsors were Patrick GUINNANE and Ellen COLLINS. She died on 26 Jan 1908 in Commons South, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. Her age was given as 37. Disease of the Heart which she had for one hour was recorded as the cause of death. Michael KELLY and Mary COLLINS had the following children: +6 i. Bridget KELLY was baptized on 25 Jan 1898 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. Her sponsors were Bridget and John COLLINS. She appeared on the census in 1901 in Commons South, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. She was living with her parents. She died on 9 Mar 1972 in Hospital, Cork City, Co. Cork, Ireland. She was buried on 11 Mar 1972 in Aughty, Kilfenora, Co. Clare, Ireland. She was also known as Brigid Mary. She learned to ride a bicycle, when she was over 50 years old. She was a hard worker, quiet, spiritual, patient, and a good listener to neighbours. She was married to Michael MCMAHON (son of Nicholas MCMAHON) on 24 Nov 1926 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. They were married in the Roman Catholic Church by Father Walter M MOLONEY, a curate in the Parish of Corofin. The witnesses at the marriage were Michael O'DONOGHUE and Mary O'DONOGHUE. Michael MCMAHON was born on 10 Feb 1896 in Inchovea, Kilfenora, Co. Clare, Ireland. He resided - on 24 Nov 1926 in Toormore, Kilfenora, Clare, Ireland. He died in Jan 1977. He was baptized in Kilfenora Parish, Co. Clare, Ireland. He was a great reader and conversationalist. He was a very strict, hard working farmer. 7 ii. Michael KELLY was born about 1899. He was baptized on 8 Sep 1899 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. His sponsors were Thomas COLLINS and Anna KEATING. He appeared on the census in 1901 in Commons South, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. He was living with his parents. He died about 1932 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. He died at the age of 33. He never married. He was very religious and wanted to die the same age as Jesus. +8 iii. Mary Brigid KELLY was born on 24 Sep 1901 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. She immigrated on 21 Jan 1925. She was sponsored by her cousins, the CROWLEY family. She was naturalized on 20 Feb 1933 in Boston, Suffolk, MA. Her Naturalization Certificate number is 3671486. She resided - 139 Alewife Brook Parkway on 22 May 1962 in Somerville, MA. She resided - 153 Calewife Brook Parkway in 1965 in Somerville, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts. While she resided here, she applied for a US passport to visit Ireland. She was to depart Boston on 5 June 1965 for a three week stay in Ireland. She traveled by air on Irish International. She died on 22 May 1989 in Apple Valley, San Bernadino, CA. She was an enthusiastic Irish dancer, dancing at any hint of Irish music. She was also a perfectionist in all she set out to do. She was married to Denis Joseph FLANAGAN (son of Patrick FLANAGAN and Bridget HYNES) on 23 Nov 1927 in Somerville, MA. They were married at St Joseph's Church by John J Quinlan. The witnesses were Peter CONOLE and Catherine KELLY. Denis Joseph FLANAGAN was born on 17 Aug 1892 in Lough, Co Clare, Ireland. He was baptized on 18 Sep 1892 in Doolin, Killilagh, Co Clare, Ireland. His sponsors were Thomas FITZGERALD and Anne HYNES. He resided - on 19 Sep 1892 in Luogh South, Doolin, Clare, Ireland. He immigrated in 1917. He immigrated to the U.S. shortly before WWI from Cobh, Cork, Ireland. He was a Painter before 26 Jun 1918 in Somerville, MA. He served in the military between 26 Jun 1918 and 15 Mar 1919 in US Army. He served with the US Army during WWI and worked on the docks of France. When he enlisted in the Army in Somerville, Massachusetts, he was a Painter by occupation. He was described as having brown eyes, dark brown hair, ruddy complexion and was 5 feet 9 3/4 inches in height. It is interesting to note that they described him as having a ruddy complexion, since the first part of his surname "flan" means "ruddy" in Gaelic. He seved with the American Expeditionary Forces. His unit service was with Company 11 Depot Brigade to Company B 348th Infantry to Co C Recig Detachment. He was Honorably Discharged on 15 March 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey. He was naturalized on 19 Jul 1918 in Camp Dix, NJ. Denis received his U.S. Citizenship as a result of volunteering for the Army and going oversees to participate in WWI. He was naturalized before the Special District Court at Camp Dix and his Certificate of Naturalization is # 1029085. He resided - 58 Woods Ave in Nov 1961 in Somerville, MA, 02144. He died on 23 Nov 1961 in Somerville, MA. He was buried in Rindge Avenue Cemetery, Cambridge, MA. He was a Foreman for City Water Department in Somerville, MA. Denis' name is also spellt Dennis. He was possibly in the Somerville or Boston area, during the 1920 Census. Denis was a member of American Legion Post #19 in Somerville. His son, John, remembers going to the American Legion hall after parades. John also stated, "Denis could flatten a penny with one swing of a 20 pound sledge hammer exactly even all around". +9 iv. Kathleen KELLY was born about 1902 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. She died about 1982 in? MA?. She was married to Michael FLANAGAN in Somerville, MA. Michael FLANAGAN was born in Galway, Ireland. He is not a blood relation to the Dennis J. FLANAGAN line. 10 v. Ellen KELLY was born about Apr 1904. She died on 21 Oct 1906 in Commons South, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. Her age was given as 2.5 years. Pertuisis which she had for seven days was recorded as the cause of her death. +11 vi. Patrick KELLY appeared on the census in 1901 in Commons South, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. He was living with his parents. He lived in the U.S. for a few years. He was married to Bridget DRONEY (daughter of Thomas DRONEY and Anne GREENE) on 19 Jun 1937 in Touclea, Clare, Ireland. They were married in the Roman Catholic Church by Father Patrick LYONS. The witnesses at the marriage were John COLLINS and Bridget SCALES. Bridget DRONEY was also known as Bridie. 12 vii. Arthur KELLY was born about 1906. He died on 27 Jun 1933 in Commons South, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. His age was given as 27. Cancer of the Spleen was recorded as the cause of death. His brother Patrick registered the death. He never married. 13 viii. Elsie KELLY. She never married. 14 ix. Unknown KELLY. She never married. Michael KELLY was also married to Mary MURPHY (daughter of Thomas MURPHY) on 9 Jul 1910 in Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. They were married in the Roman Catholic Church by Father Patrick O'HALLORAN, a curate. His marital status was given as widower. The witnesses at the marriage were Thomas GILLIGAN, Bridget GILLIGAN, and Annie SULLIVAN. Mary MURPHY was born about 1870. She died on 21 Sep 1926 in Commons South, Kilnaboy, Co. Clare, Ireland. Her age was given as 56.
