Susan After receiving your father's 2nd letter I went back though all of my accumulated papers. So you know where I'm coming from I'll repeat some of his information: Great Grandfather John Kelley borned in Clark County, Indiana on October 29, 1833. | | | Great Great Grandfather Daniel Kelley borned in Va abt 1801. | | | 3rd Great Grandfather Giles Kelley I was conparing your father's information against information that I had obtained from the Ancestral File computerized index at the local library. I knew some of the dates of birth were out of order or had been assigned to the wrong person. What caught my eye was that your father listed the above John Kelley as being borned in Clark County, Indiana while the Ancestral File indicates that he was borned in Kentucky. I found a handwritten note from my Aunt Ruth Kelley Parnell which indicated that the birth had taken place in Indiana. I kept going through paperwork and found some copies of the 1850 census of North East Township in Orange County, Indiana which confirms my Aunt Ruth's information. As a matter of fact all of the children are listed, except the oldest William, as being borned in Indiana. Great Grandfather John Kelley is listed as being 16 years old in 1850. Aunt Ruth had also obtained some information from the Clark County Clerk in regards to a probated will dated July 25, 1859 in which Great Grandfather John Kelley was appointed guardian of: Thomas Kelley Winfield S Kelley Silas C Kelley A brother of Great Grandfather John Kelley named George Kelley was appointed guardian of Daniel Kelley, Jr. This Daniel in my Great Grandfather who married Charlotte Melvina Hooker Bower, in Clark County, Indiana. A couple of problems I haven't resolved yet is this Silas C. Kelley in this will of Daniel Kelley, he doesn't show up on the census. Also the problem of obtaining birth information in that Indiana didn't require counties to record birth and death information until 1882. We'll keep looking I like a challenge. I still have not make a tie to Giles Kelley, there are several Giles Kelleyes. I find 2 in Barren County, Kentucky on the 1830 census in the same census enumeration district. I may have to go down in the country as they say and see what I can find. So there is a family tie through your Great Great Grandfather Daniel and my Great Great Grandfather Daniel as being one and the same. Glad to meet you COUSIN !!! Shelia in Illinois would also have the same family tie as myself along with Kirk a 1st cousin in Colorado and my brother Pat in Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm putting this on the Kelley-L@rootsweb-com e-mail list just might being some kinfolk out there we might be able to connect to. Take care & God Bless CUZ Jerry Kelley Jeffersonville, Indiana
