Hello all, I just dug this bit from my "lost" files <g>. Hope it gives someone hope! The one named "John Kelly" is my ancestor. Any cousins out there????? There is a book called Preston County West Virginia History, 1979, pub. Preston County Historical Society, Kingwood, West Virginia, printed by Taylor Publishing Company, Dallas, Texas. pg. 241 re: Robert Ray Kelly "Five Kelly brothers, of Irish descent, served in the Revolutionary Ware and one of them, my great-great-grandfather, John, settled in Preston County. John was born in 1755, died June 11, 1853, married Elizabeth Askins, born 1760, died February 20, 1865. Both are buried in Rich Hill Cemetery, Muskinghum County, Ohio. He enlisted February 22, 1777, served with Captain Charles Porterfielf's Company, Colonel Febiger's 11th Virginia Regiment and was wounded in the Battle of Brandywine, carrying the bullet to his grave. My great-grandfather, William, was born 1784, died January 26, 1856, married Hannah Brandon, born 1787, died August 28, 1849, daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Robinette Brandon. My grandfather, William's son, Alfred Joseph, born March 9, 1823, died December 19, 1913, married Christena Smith, born June 9, 1875, died August 16, 1907, daughter of Frederick and Anne Wilhelm Smith. Both are buried at Centenary. My father, Freeman, was born February 22, 1860, died June 14, 1927, married October 5, 1866 to Lucinda Ellen Messenger, born November 20, 1872, died May 22, 1951, daughter of Elijah Messenger, a Civil War veteran and Sara Jane Hartman, his wife. I have a brother Bruce A. born April 19, 1894, of Akron, Ohio and a sister Dorotha Faye Moore of Finleyville, Pa. I was born April 20, 1889. My father was known as a successful farmer and a breeder of fine horses. I began teaching in 1906 and worked on the farm to supplement my 5 month salary. " It goes on to list his wife and children and has a picture of him and his wife and another article on his son and his wife, with picture. Hope this sheds some light for someone. Carolyn
