Hi List! I'm new to your list and intend only to stay briefly; I have no ancestors (that I know of) with the KELLEY surname... However, I *would* like very much to converse "off-list" w/ anyone who might have a Private George W. KELLY," Co. H, 10th Indiana Cavalry (125th Volunteer Infantry)" during the U.S. Civil War in their family. Here's why: I suspect that Pvt. KELLY served alongside my 2nd Lt. Thomas B. REEVES, Co. C, 10th Indiana Cavalry, late in the U.S. Civil War. Both were captured, paroled, and were on the Sultana steamship when she exploded on the Mississippi River on 27 APR 1865. Unfortunately, both men died in the disaster that's now dubbed, "The Titanic of the Mississippi." FYI, Indiana's 10th Cavalry was organized at Columbus, Vincennes, Terre Haute, New Albany and Indianapolis, Ind., between 30 DEC 1863 and 30 APR 1864. That means (basically) that any "George W. KELLY" born between 1825 and 1845 in the southern half of Indiana, U.S.A. *may* be the soldier I'm hoping to learn more about... I know from NARA records that my Tom, and two other 10th IN Cavalry officers were imprisoned at Andersonville and I suspect that Pvt. George W. KELLY, Co. H, may have been as well... Consequently, I'd like to hear from ANYONE who can answer any/all the following questions: 1. When was "Pvt. George W. KELLY, Co. H, 10th IN Cavalry" captured? 2. Where was "Pvt. George W. KELLY, Co. H, 10th IN Cavalry" captured? 3. Where was "Pvt. George W. KELLY, Co. H, 10th IN Cavalry" imprisoned? 4. Do any photos, letters, diaries, etc. remain from George W. KELLY's life? My bottom-line is this: I'm trying simply to "re-create" the details surrounding Tom's last 6 months of life and am hoping to correspond w/ descendants/relatives of any/all Tom's 10th Cavalry comrades... Again, I subscribed to your KELLEY list for this purpose alone and will again be "unsubscribing" later today so anyone w/ any information should contact me directly at: greg@rapidnet.com. Thanks! And thanks for you'all's indulgence! Greg Reeves SULTANA-L, ANDERSONVILLE-L, and REEVES-L Listowner GGG Nephew of Lt. Tom REEVES: http://www.rapidnet.com/~greg/Tom greg@rapidnet.com
