The boy was on roller skates, and it appears that when in front of No. 1897 Halsey street and while skating in the same direction as that in which the car was proceeding, he turned in front of the car in an attempt to crossed the street. The car at the time was speeding, as is usual in the middle of the long blocks in that part of Brooklyn. The street was crowded, and without waiting for a wrecking crew some of the pedestrians lifted one side of the car by sheer strength, and more of them braced the other side so that it did not fall while Ambulance Surgeon Sammis crawled under the extricated the body of the boy, meanwhile taking a chance that the strength of those who sustained the car would not fail.
