Hello, I am looking for the parents, siblings, etc of Edward Kelly (could have been Kelley) born somewhere in New Jersey in 1820. Sometime between the 1850 Census and 1854 when he married, he came to Neptune, Center Township, Mercer County, Ohio. All the local census records after this time show him as being born in 1820 in New Jersey. His father was born in Ireland and his mother was born in New Jersey. I have nothing else about his parents or siblings. His marriage to Elizabeth Poling produced 4 children: Emma Kelly William Kelly Anna Kelly Amos Kelly The last two were most likely twins as the census shows them at the same age. Elizabeth apparently died around 1860 when Anna and Amos were born (this is speculation) because Edward remarried. His second wife was Catherine Sheets. She was supposed to have been Elizabeth's sister. She brought 4 step children into the family. Also mentioned in the census as living with the family was Mary Jane Fast. She was born in 1848. William Kelly was born in 1856. These two eventually married and are my great grandparents. William died young we believe, and Mary Jane probably remarried someone with the surname of Hager. But we are not sure of this. We are unable to find any graves or death certificates of any of these people. We did find the marriage notice of Edward and Elizabeth, and William and Mary Jane. Anna Kelly married a Stauffer and they lived in St. Mary's, Auglaize County, Ohio and raised 7 children. These are the only ones of the family we know of. William and Mary Jane had two children, Elizabeth and Ruchus Edward who is my grandfather. He went by the name Edward R. and would not tell anyone what the R. stood for.
