Just when you thought you were confused between Kelly and Kelley, along comes a record that spells it KELLIE ! My Kelly family was from Midlothian, Scotland in the early 1800's. Thomas Kelly moved to Dundalk, Co Louth, Ireland about 1895. His son, Alexander, remained in Edinburgh. He married in 1903 and moved to London, Ontario, Canada the same year. After W.W.I., the family moved to Southern California. As for religion, Thomas converted to Catholicism for his second wife about 1895 but was not Catholic originally. Some family members are, some aren't. Bottom line, don't base the family religion only on the spelling of the name. And Kelly/Kelley family ancestors aren't always from Ireland (although I've been told that if I research back to the 1400's, mine probably did come from Ireland....we'll see, if I could only be lucky enough to get back that far!
