    2. In a message dated 98-11-27 05:27:44 EST, you write: > Looking for information about ENOCH L. KELLY (b. 1800 GA), son of PETER > O'KELLY of Ireland. He married SARAH GREEN in 1824 in Wilcox Co., AL. Who > were SARAH's folks.... ENOCH was a blacksmith who is in the state pen for > murder in the 1850 census. Having studied the original records in Wilcox and Clarke Co.,Ala. I am reasonably sure that Enoch`s middle initial is S. I believe his parents are John and Hanna Kelly who lived in the Lower Peach Tree area which is in the southern part of Wilcox Co.,Ala. Peter O`Kelly and his son John lived near Catherine in the northern corner of Wilcox Co. Sarah Green, b.1799 in SC is the daughter of William and Elizabeth Greene. The Last Will and Testament of William Greene is recorded in Marengo Co., Ala., May 20, 1841. The information I have collected on John and Hanna Kelly is listed below: RAYMOND A. KELLY JR. 18703 Lakeshore Drive Lutz, Florida 33549 (813) 949-2017 February 6.1998 "The Family of John Kelley and Hannah Moon" I have compiled the following family group from public records, county history, and family tradition. * John Kelley, Born C. 1765 Married circa 1786(probably Guilford County, North Carolina) * Hannah Moon, Born C. 1765 Daughter of Richard Moon and Susannah Brown CHILDREN: Jesse Kelley: Born 1788, Georgia: Died 1834, Clarke County, Alabama Robert Kelley: Born 1789, Georgia John W. Kelly: Born 1790, Georgia: Died January 24, 1848, Wilcox County, Alabama Austin Kelly: Born 1790-1800, Georgia Asa Kelly: Born 1790-1800, Georgia: Died 1849, Wilcox County, Alabama Allen Kelly: Enoch S. Kelly: Born 1799, Georgia: Died October 10, 1850, Wetumpka, Coosa Co., Alabama D. Boston Kelly: Born 1800, Georgia Margaret Kelly: Born 1805, Georgia The family migrated from Clarke County, Georgia to the area that is now Clarke County, Alabama in 1809. "John Kelley was an early settler near Jackson(Washington/Clarke County) Alabama. He and hia wife were in McGrew's Fort" (Before 1812) (1). Jesse Kellay and Robert Kellay are both listed in the 1810 Census of Washington County, Mississippi Territory. "John was six feet two and a half inches in height. His brother Jesse Kelley, weighed three hundred and sixty five pounds. They came from Georgia. The family moved to Wilcox County after the War of 1812, settling east of Choctaw Corner in Dr. Southall's neighborhood." (2) John and Jesse Kelley are both recorded on the Tax Roll of Clarke County, Mississippi Territory in 1813. Jesse Kelley is listed on the Clarke County Tax Roll of 1814. John W. Kelly served in the Mississippi Territory Militia at Fort Claiborne from September 1814 until January 1815. Robert and Jesse are listed on the Clarke County Tax Roll in 1815. In the 1816 Census of Clarke County, Jesse Kelly is listed with a wife and six children in his household. Hanna Kelly is listed with no male in the household over 21, four males under 21 and four females under 21. I have found no further record of Hanna Kelly in Clarke County, Alabama. Unfortunately the 1820 Census of Clarke County, Alabama is not available. The brothers John and Jesse Kelly with their families are listed in the 1820 Census of Wilcox County, Alabama. The first public record I have found of Asa Kelley is the 1830 Census of Wilcox County where he is listed with his wife and two young boys. I have compiled detailed family histories on Jesse, John W., and Asa from 1800 up to current descendants. I have limited data on the other children of John and Hanna Kelley. JOHN AND HANNA KELLEY PRIOR TO MIGRATING TO ALABAMA John and Hannah Kelley were in Clarke County, Georgia living on the Apalachee River in 1806. Their son Jesse married Sarah Lucy Pierce in Jackson County, Georgia September 22, 1806. Clarke County, Georgia was formed from Jackson County in 1802. Another son Robert Kelly was married to Martha Magee, September 1, 1806 in Jackson County. Georgia law required the marriage certificate to be issued in the home county of the bride. There were five Kelley families who appear to be related who moved to this district on the Apalachee(GMD239) when it was part of Jackson County in 1801. The head of households were David, William, John, Jesse, and Tyre Kelley. John and William were in the district through 1805. The family name is also spelled Calley, Kelly during this time depending on the preference of the Tax Collector. Four of the five families were living in the Island Creek area(GMD104) of Hancock County, Georgia in 1794. The head of households were David, William, John, and Jesse. John Pearce the father of Sarah Lucy Pierce who married Jesse Kelly in 1806 also lived in the same district. The Jesse that is listed as head of household here in Hancock County is probably an uncle of the young Jesse , son of John and Hannah Kelly. Jesse Kelley sold 60 acres on Big Island Creek to John Kelly on July 5, 1799. John Kelly sold this property to Thomas Lewis on August 5, 1799. Since neither John nor Jesse is listed in GMD104 in 1802 I believe they must have removed to the Jackson County area in 1799. In 1793 David, Jesse, John, Thomas, and William Kelley are listed in Capt. McDowell's Company of the Washington County Militia. It is highly likely that they are in the Island Creek area of Washington County which was included in Hancock County in December 1793. There is a William and a Jesse Kelly in the Long Creek District(GMD154) of Wilkes County in 1790. There is a David Kelley in this district in 1792. There are no Kellys listed in the district in 1793. The Long Creek District(GMD154) was included in Warren County in December 1793. Richard Moon, the father of Hannah Moon resided in the Long Creek District in 1790 although he owned property in Greene County. I am currently researching the Public Records of Guilford and Rowan Co.,N.C. for information on John And Hannah Kelley. I have not found a marriage record for them . I would appreciate any information concerning John and Hannah Kelley and their descendants.
