    3. Hello Nelindra and KELLEY-L list, I was just looking back thru the messages on the KELLEY-L list. You mentioned a Tyre Kelly. My research has gotten me back to my 3rd great grandfather, Seaborn Kelley, who was born in GA around 1804. I find him in Lowndes County Alabama from about 1830 on. He settled in that area with a number of Kelleys who very likely are related. The 1850 census records of Lowndes County reveal these families (these taken from a transcription of the Lowndes Co. census that appeared in AL Genealogical Review): Kelley, James G. 40 M SC Adaline B. 35 F NY James T. 11 M LA Henry H. 10 M AL Lewis G. 6 M AL Ada M. 4 F AL Kelley, James W. 48 M NJ Ann 40 F GA Thomas 12 F AL Mary A. J. 6 F AL Kelley, James 75 M GA apparently also in household were.. Bowin, Charity 35 F SC Zachariah J.12 M Miss. Majors, Joseph 34 M SC (next house) Kelley, John 29 M SC Julia A. 30 F AL John R. 14 M AL Henry C. 5 M AL Kelley, Gallant 41 M GA Elizabeth 39 F SC Drucilla 19 F AL Franklin 16 M AL Missouro 14 M AL Susannah 13 F AL Matilda 10 F AL Walter B. 7 M AL Alva A. 4 F AL Leander C. 2 M AL (Related families) Hambreck, William 27 M AL Amanda M. Elizabeth Jenkins in not his mom) Winny 35 F GA William R. 19 M AL Lucinda 17 F AL Linson 15 M AL (they transcribed this as "Linrow") Sarah 14 F AL Nancy 13 F AL Martha 11 F AL Louisa 9 F AL Malissa 8 F AL Mary 7 F AL Betsy 7 F AL (I transcribed this as "Becky") Kelly, William 35 M GA Eliza 25 F GA Nancy A. 3 F AL Mary 2 F AL Seaborn was the executor of Grant's will. Land records (Patents) show that between 1834 (beginning with Tyre) thru 1858 (last was Cynthia), a total of 600 acres of land were patented to Tyre Kelley, Gallant Kelley, William Kelley, Seaborn Kelley, James Kelley and Cynthia Kelley. These were within Sections 22, 27, 28, and 34 of Township 11-N, Range 17-E of St. Stephens Meridian. This land is now within Crenshaw county (I say this based on the fact that the Bureau of Land Management Website lists this property as being in Crenshaw county.... Crenshaw was formed Nov. 30, 1866 out of Butler, Coffee, Covington, Pike and Lowndes counties.) In 1830, the census showed the following Kelleys in Lowndes co (from a lookup on )CD #315: Gabriel, pg 275, Gallant pg 263, Grant, pg 264, John pg. 274, Lyn pg 263, Nancy pg. 266, William pg 266 and Seaborn pg. 289. Does any of this look familiar to anyone? See my query: ___________________________________________________________________ Seeking info on the following family. John Jacob Khele arrived S. C. aboard the ship "John & Mary". The ship's captain was Capt Robinson. John Jacob Khele land grant petition appears in the Council Journal on 2 Jan 1753. He was granted 400 acres on Buffalo Creek, 18 Apr 1753. John Jacob arrived with Wife, & 6 children: John George 12, Anna Barbara ll, John 7, Catherine 5, Jacob 4, Jacob Andrew 6 mos. These children received land under the surname Kelly/Kelley. The Khele name was changed to Kelly/Kelley shortly after their arrival. My great great grandfather Jacob Kelly, b. Apr 1816, S. C. married ca 1840, Harriet Lybrand in the Lexington Dist., S. C. & moved to Coosa Co., Alabama btw 1840/1850. My great grandfather the Rev. Tyre Asia (T. A./Shun) Kelly, b. 15 Apr 1848 listed his birthplace as the Lexington Dist., SC. I am positive that one of the original sons of John Jacob Khele is the ancestor of my Jacob Kelly that migrated to Alabama. If anyone is researching this family please contact, Nelindra Ann Kelly Corum, 296 John Hicks Rd., Hazel Green, AL 35750, nkcorum@aol.com
