There's a "Kelley" family, out of Santa Cruz, California. my great grandmother is a Uhden. Now, the Uhdens and the Leibbrandts are the matriarch and patriarch of record, whom I can locate in the U.S. The Leibbrandts made their money/gold, as miners, up in the Trinity river area of California. If YOUR Kelly's were miners and met the Uhdens, it might explain the connection. Let me look around town. There's a part of town with the family names in it, and place names like "Trinity St." If Placer St. is nearby, then I will have an answer. According to what my grandfather Emory Ellsworth Kelley born in Kirby,Ohio told us his fathers parents died they were Irish Immigrants, there were four children from what I understand William must have been the oldest, there was a Robert, Stephen and Ann other families took them into their families so we have no record of them. William took off on his own, all papers we find on him just say parents Irish Immigrants so we are hunting for a needle in the hay stack. He died in 1960 when I was 4, so I barely remember him. I was named after him, and grew up less than a mile from his homestead. He is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Troy, Ala., and though we don't make it back too often, I visit there each time. My mom was buried in the same cemetery a couple of years ago. Kathy and I live in Texas and have four children. Two are studying in college, and the youngest two are in high school. We moved here from Georgia almost nine years ago. I'm on the faculty at Baylor and Kathy is a quilter and volunteer. My sister and her family also live in Texas. My other two siblings live near in Alabama. This consists of, 1 Group of 7, 1 Group of 6, 1 Group of 5, 2 Groups of 4, 2 Groups of 3, and 12 Groups of 2. We have 63 participants with no match. Our 119 Test Results represent 82 unique, unrelated, KELLY/KELLEY/O'KELLY Families. This means that when Surnames were adopted in Ireland about 900 AD that 82 different Families adopted the Surname KELLY (Gaelic Equivalent). DNA Testing is the only practical method to determine from which KELLY Clan we descend. Since there are a large number of Unique KELLY Clans we are going to have to get a large number of participants to find matches for those of us who haven't yet found a match. Studies done by Geneticist at Trinity University in Dublin. indicate that Murphy and Kelly are the two most popular Surnames in Ireland. However, DNA Studies carried out by the University indicate that the large number of people with Surname Kelly is due to multiple family founders as opposed to a single patrilineal line with a large number of descendants. A memorial reception will be held at the Eagles Lodge. The Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Kelley was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Muscatine, the son of Homer Wilson and Martha Ida Howard Kelley. He was self-employed as a brick mason for many years prior to retirement. Survivors include a son, Lester Kelley of Kirkwood, Ill.; a daughter, Heather Lopez of Marengo; three grandchildren; and a sister, Lauramae Hill of Florida.
