For our ancestors, spelling was not a skill that was critical to survival. To join us in the search to identify our Kelley ancestors just go to our Website and follow the instructions below. A 12 marker Male Paternal Test cost $99. It is only necessary to test 1 male from your Kelley/Kelly Line with Surname Kelley/Kelly to determine if you are related to the other Kelly's that take the Test. The cost can be split among all the family members of your line. In brief form, if your lines 12 DNA Markers match with one of the other lines tested then you are related. Since both lines must submit the data on their Paternal (Father to Son) line of descent it begins to fill in the Family Tree. Test Results and Family Groupings will be displayed on the Kelley/Kelly Web Page as each test is completed. The test is performed by taking a sample from your mouth with a swab from the Kit supplied by Family Tree DNA Testing. Mail the swab back in the container supplied and wait for your test results. More information can be seen at the Web Site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kellydnaproject/index.htm Go to this site and select the Link on the left side of the page "Sign Up". After filling out the Forms on the KELLEY/KELLY DNA Group Website you will be linked to the Family Tree DNA Website where you will fill in the data for the person to receive the Kit. If you are paying for a family member to receive the Kit, fill in your Credit Card information and your E-Mail address to receive the results. The key to a successful result is having a test from a lot of different Kelley/Kelly lines. If you match my 12 Marker haplotype, I will be happy to reimburse your test cost. Do you have any idea what the initial W stood for? When was GW's approx time of birth and where? In the later census records, does it say where GW's parents were born? I have a Washington Kelley, born abt. 1840 in Alabama. First record of him is with his parents and siblings in 1850, Shelby Co, AL. Both parents were born in NC. I lost track of Washington after the 1860 census. ~Susan Kelley Fletcher -------------- Original message -------------- From: "Mike Kelley" <mikelley@localnet.com> > Hi, > I have found my ggf, G W Kelley, in Birmingham AL in jail in 1910 census. Hi Susan, Thank you for your reply. I don't know what the W stood for. The 1900 census says he was born in Georgia in 1858, no info on parents birth. But the 1910 shows his father born in Tennessee and mother born in Georgia. I don't think we have a match. Good luck with Washington. Hi, I have found my ggf, G W Kelley, in Birmingham AL in jail in 1910 census. My attempts to find out why and when he entered jail and when he was released, have been futile. Previously I found him with his family in Birmingham in 1900 census. My gf, George Singleton Kelley, was in that household then. Shortly after, my gf moved to Anniston AL and married my gm in 1901. I have found GWK living in Anniston, listed in the city directory of 1898 and 1896, living with his wife, Nannie. Of course, the names appeared with and without the second "e" in the various records, sometimes both spellings in one record. I want to trace GWK from 1910, and his family from 1900. Those census records are all I have been able to find from those times. My dad, born Arthur Kelly in Anniston in 1903, never talked about his family and my mom put off my enquiries with a line about his ancestors being "horse-thieves" and that he didn't want to talk about them. GSK, my gf, died before 1910, I think, and my ggf, GWK, may have died in the 19-teens. He does not show up in the WW1 draft registry or the 1920 census (that I have found so far, anyway). I have not found death certs or obits for either of the GK's, so I'm not sure. I'd like to discover what happened to Nannie and GWK's other children who were in the household in 1900, Henry and Nancy. They do not appear in the 1920 census records. I haven't been able to find any of them on previous census records either, so I don't know who my ggm was, or even what her name was. GWK and Nannie were married about 1895, possibly in Anniston. Any clues or directions would be very appreciated. Thanks, Mike Kelley
