    1. [KELLEY] Death dates or certs or obits for GF and GGF? Anniston/Birmingham AL, 1900 to 1915
    2. Mike Kelley
    3. Hi Kelley's and Kelly's and relatives, I'm searching for death info for my GF, George Singleton Kelly, who died in Anniston AL approx. 1907 or so. I have his marriage license from 1901 and my dad was born in 1903. My GM remarried in 1910, so it must have been a year or more before then. Family tradition says he died of TB, "galloping consumption" as they called it. Also searching for any info about the life and death of my GGF, George W. Kelly. I show him in Anniston City Directory in 1896 and 1898, then Birmingham in 1900 census, married for four years then to new wife Nannie, living with her and his three children (including my GF) from previous wife, name unknown. Next I find him listed as a widower in the 1910 census, but he's an inmate in Jefferson County Jail. I am searching for my real GGM's death info, his new wife's info and marriage license or cert. My GGM must have died before 1896 and after 1892, the date of birth of her last child, my great-uncle (grand-uncle?) Henry D. Kelly. I have found no info on what happened to GGF after 1910, why he was in jail, or what happened to any family members except my GF, George Singleton Kelly, and very little about him. I haven't found any of the 1900 family in the 1910 or later censuses. Any help at all would be so very much appreciated. Is anyone in Anniston or Birmingham able and willing to search records for me? I live in upstate NY now and cannot easily travel to AL, I'm old, broke and sick. I'd really like to get more info together for my kids, as my family never wanted to discuss Kelly history and left me with almost no information. Many thanks to those who read this message, Mike Kelley

    3. The early dates of settlement show that your ancestors were some of the first pioneers in that area. People were known to test the perimeters of what was then the Western Frontier. Large land companies bought and sold millions of acres that they never saw. They would move people they called squatters. I have seen this in many early settlements in Ohio. Some of the people in PA. were known to settle on unclaimed lands in those times. Many Scotch/Irish came over with William Penn. I know a few Kelly/Kelley lines that came that way. One was Luke Kelley who was the first settler in Ironton Ohio. Your male ancestor was drafted in the militia during the war of 1812 if he was living. All men were drafted from that county. You might check the federal archives of casualties. Know that the regular federal troops and militias were separate. You need to check all Kelly/Kelley's from that county that took part in the war. Also note than many were sharpshooters on ships. My own ancestor was killed up there on Lake Erie in 1812. He came out of Kentucky however. It was a major war area and is very likely that your own relatives suffered from it also. I hope this might give you a new insight. I am the 3rd generation of family genealogists looking for Mathilda Kelley. This is what I know: Mathilda Kelley lived in Gustavus, Trumbull, OH in and around 1827 when she married Samuel G. PELTON. She was probably born about 1812. She had a sister, Esther who was born in about 1810 who married a Stephen Linsley, Jr. also in Gustavus. I believe these folks later moved to MA but that's all I know. She also had a brother, Walter, who married Eliza Simmons in NY in1828. He was a ship owner/captain and died in New Orleans, LA in 11 Oct 1844. He died of smallpox, I believe, since there was an epidemic of that in LA at that time. The only Kell(e)y I find in the 1820 census is a Cyrel living next door to Samuel's stepmother, Chloe Pelton. I find no other info on these folks and he's not in subsequent census records. Mathilda died in Byron, Fond du Lac WI and is buried with her husband and some of her son! s in Byron Cemetery. SHe is my 3rd great grandmother. If you can help or have suggestions on what else I can do, please let me know. I have no idea who her parents were and am only guessing that she was from CT since many of the people who founded the county were from CT. Thanks for anything you can do. Susan K. I am looking for information on William "Rufus" Kelley and his son James Luther Kelley. According to 1910 Bibb Co, AL census records William was born in 1852 in GA, he lists his father's birthplace as GA and his mother's birthplace as South Carolina, wife is listed as Julia. Luther and family lived next door. 1920 Bibb Co, AL census records list William living with Luther and family. I cant locate either of them in 1930. I know that Luther died in Sept 15 1939 in Woodstock Bibb Co, AL. Luther was born Feb 29 1876 in Rock Run, GA/AL, married Annie Pearl Argo. William was married more than once. Julia isn't Luther's mother, his mother was Lula. I have pictures of her and William. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
