Martha was probably the daughter of Absolom and Mary (Templeton) Phebus. They lived in White and Jasper Co. most of their lives. Absolom's name has been "mutilated" throughout historical documentation. He served in the civil war, 57th Indiana Regt. His marriage license lists him as "Abraham". I hope this is of some help. Coleman to James H. Coleman, Jr. to Esther Coleman who married Jonathan David Lusk. The one way to find out if Ann belongs to Nathan is to get Nathan's will. I would think someone already has this will. Do you live in Ohio? Nathan's son Cornelius married a sister of James Hill Coleman. Their son Daniel went to Bearcreek, Jay, IN Have you figured out the 1850 census in Shelby county Ohio? I have tried to figure out who the James belongs to. He is married to Elizabeth and has a daughter Cynthia and Emeline so he has to belong to this family. This James and family are on two pages. At the bottom of the second page is a Phebe McMu? who has all these Kelly children living with her and that is a real mystery for me. I do know these children also have to belong to this family. If your Kelley/Kelly ancestor - (or perhaps not *your* ancestor, but *someone's*) was tried at The Old Bailey in London, you can now read some fascinating accounts in the transcripts of 210,000 trials across four centuries: Old Bailey Online, The Proceedings of The Old Bailey, 1674-1913 http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/ A search for KELLEY resulted in many transcripts. Here is an example of one: "Charles Close, Bernard Trevers, Hugh Kelley, Mary Kelley, Theft > burglary, Miscellaneous > perverting justice, 9th April 1684. "Charles Close , Bernard Trevers , and Hugh Kelley , Indicted for Robbing the House of John Shuttleworth, an Inn-keeper at Wood-green in the Parish of Tatenham , and taking away in Plate and Money to the Value of 250 l. which they effected, by going first to drink, as if passing towards Hornsey, being habited as Gentlemen, the Inn-keeper making much of them, thinking he had gotten good Guests, and offering them to lye at his House; but assoon as it grew dark, Bernard Trevers lett in several others, who assisted them to bind the Family, and rob the House. Also, Mary Kelley was Indicted as accessary, for comforting, aiding, and harbouring them after the Robbery committed . Some of them were taken at Portsmouth, and part of the Plate found with them, also a Gold Ring found with Mary Kelley, she being the pretended Wife of Hugh Kelley Trevers was taken about Charing-Cross, and either was or went in the Habit of of a Granadeer The three Men confess'd, upon their Arraignment, that they were guilty of the Felony and Robbery, but not of Breaking the House: however, it being proved that Trevers unbolted a Back door to let the rest of his companions in, they were all three found Guilty of Felony and Burglary; but Mary Kelley is acquitted." An example from the search for KELLY: "Ordinary's Account, 9th September 1723:" ".He added, that tho' several People, whose Pockets had been pick'd of Watches, Gold, &c. had suspected him and apply'd to him in Prison, that yet he was Innocent of all those Charges, for he was never so mean as to submit to Pocket-picking; but one Hugh Kelly was the Person whom they usually imploy'd upon that Business, who is now in America, and as he had heard, leads there a sober and industrious Life; and tho' J. Lock had put him into his Information, as if he was the Person who rob'd the Gentleman of his Watch, a few Years ago, who was going with the rest of the Congregation out of St. Paul's Church Covent-Garden, yet he said that J. Lock had since recollected himself, and believ'd that it was Kelly that took the Watch." And, as usual, finding one record raises questions that lead to more research.which makes genealogy so much fun! Hi Cousins! Great news! Cle' you have a cousin who just proved that I am in the family! He is Lucien Debuys O'Kelley. lukeokelley@comcast.net See e-mail below. Thank you cousin Luke! Sherry and I are glad to meet you! Luke's father was James Phares O'Kelley, MD. Cle', perhaps you already know Luke. My DNA match to Luke proves that I am descended from Thomas Manley O'Kelley, brother of John Beattie O'Kelley, who was Luke's great grandfather. My first common ancestor with Luke is John Francis Marion O'Kelley (aka: John O. Kelly; aka "Old man Kelly") Old man Kelly is buried in Bradford County Fla. Luke, we plan to visit JB Kelley in Lake Butler, Fla again this week. If JB is well enough, he wants to visit "Old Man Kelly's" gravesite and attempt to uncover his gravestone which has fallen over and become buried in leaves and debris. JB is full of stories about our old Kelly patriarch, John O.Kelly. He was our great great grandfather! Is there anything any of you would like me to ask JB? Last month I helped JB take a DNA sample for the Kelly project and that sample should show another match for us very soon. Again thank you Luke. Unknowingly you have proved my family history! THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD. Dwight R. Kelley Posted: Tuesday, Apr 22, 2008 - 02:54:03 pm PDT COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE Dwight R. Kelley, 88, of Marlin, Wash., passed away on Friday, April 11, 2008, at Lakeridge Care Center in Moses Lake. Dwight was born on Aug. 28, 1919, in Lynd, Minn., the oldest of seven boys born to Lawrence and Hazel (Wunderlich) Kelley. Dwight attended grade school in one-room schools east of Havre, Mont., at times riding horseback 12 miles a day. In 1934, after years of poor crops and even poorer prices, his family traded their cows for horses and with 10 horses and two wagons, they traveled 520 miles in 21 days to Northern Idaho. He was a 1938 graduate of Spirit Lake High School in Idaho. After high school, he joined the Idaho National guard. In the fall of 1941, his unit was ordered to the Philippine Islands. They sailed from Pearl Harbor a few days before Japan attacked. Due to the attack, his unit was rerouted to Australia. While in Australia, he was stationed near Townsville in a pack outfit consisting of 65 men and 5000 horses. When the horse patrol was no longer needed, he was sent to New Guinea with a supply company. With help of the GI Bill, he was able to attend Seattle University and Graduate from WSU with master's degrees in Education and School Administration. He married Frances Grahlfs of Naches, Wash., on Dec. 31, 1947. They moved to Nespelem in 1951 where he taught science, served as principal, and then superintendent until the high school consolidated with Coulee Dam in 1957. While at Nespelem, he served as president of the area Toastmasters Club, started a photography club, and served as a play director. After Nespelem, he became school superintendent at Bickleton, Wash., where he oversaw the building of their new high school. He served as superintendent at Trout Lake, Wash., where they purchased a home with acreage for his horses and a view of Mt. Adams that he loved. After a year away to attend Syracuse University on a National Science Foundation Grant, he became superintendent at Wilson Creek until his retirement in 1976. Dwight always had a love of horses, helping his daughters and others in community horse clubs. After his retirement, he and Frances moved back to Trout Lake. During his years at Trout Lake, he remained active in community events, served on the school board, took on various jobs, and pursued his hobbies; raising horses and training them to saddle and harness, taking and developing many photographs, and belonging to The Trout Lake Art Players in which he did standup comedy and acting. Dwight was predeceased by his parents; daughter Jeanna Claibourn; and brothers Jerome, Robert, Eugene, and Lawrence. He is survived by his wife Frances; daughters Candice (Sam) Compogno of Spokane, and Katherine (Tracy) Lesser of Marlin, Wash., brothers Donald (Marge) Kelley of Boise, Idaho, and Richard Kelley of Missoula, Mont., sister-in-law Cody Kelley of Boise, Idaho, and grandchildren Nathan Clark, Carmine Williams, Kelley, Nicki, and Katie Compogno, and Eric, Kyle, and Stacia Lesser. There will be no service at his request. If desired, memorials may be made to Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation at One Intrepid Square, W. 46th Street and 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10036 or a local animal shelter.
