    1. Kelley introduction
    2. Jim Moses
    3. Hi, My name is Jim Moses and I just subscribed to the Kelley group. I have been asked to introduce myself, so here goes--I have been working on my family history for about seven or eight years and I have traced several lines back to "the old country". Every person I have traced back came from Ireland, England, Scotland or Wales. I still have a lot of loose ends, including some of my Kelley members. I have traced them enough to earn a "First Families of Ionia County" (Michigan) certificate, which is earned by proving that one's ancestor(s) lived in Ionia County before the end of 1880. I live in Ionia County myself. My direct ancestry, on the Kelley side, is this: 1. James R. Moses (myself) born 16 JUL 1949, married Maria Mirla Sta. Ana Gamboa 2. Patricia Ann Quigley born 30 SEP 1930, married James Luther Moses born 17 OCT 1926, died 13 FEB 1998 3. Ellen Margaret Kelley born 08 DEC 1890, died 17 MAR 1968, married Russell Alger Joseph Quigley born 23 DEC 1899, died 24 OCT 1981 4. Charles Alfred Kelley born abt. OCT 1847-1849, died 27 SEP 1920, married Mary Ellen Hallahan born 09 APR or MAY 1854 or 1856, died 26 SEP 1925 5. Michael Kelley born 1800-1808 in Ireland, married Catharine _____ born 1805-1810 in Ireland As far as I know all of the above people were born in the U.S. except Michael and Catharine. I have many other Kelley family members (other brothers and sisters of the above people) which I will share later but this will at least let you know how far I go back with my Kelley family. I am trying to get firm dates for Michael and Catharine, as well as some of their children, and I would really like to find out where they came from in Ireland, and when they came here. Michael and Catharine's oldest child, as far as I know, was John Kelley who was born about 1833 in New York, so I assume they came over shortly before that time. If anyone is researching this branch of the Kelley family I would really like to know about it. I know that at one time the family lived in Mt. Morris New York (1850 and 1860 census) but I have lost them for the 1870 census. By 1873 they were living in Muir Michigan. Thanks, Jim Moses

    3. Hello, I only have one Kelly family and would like to extend it back to Ireland: Thomas Allen KELLY, b.c. 1830 in Giles Cy, TN married Ruth DAVIDSON March 10, 1853 at Verona, Lawrence Cy, MO. Ruth was born November 09, 1834, also in Giles Cy, TN. They had five children together, Sarah Elizabeth (my greatgrandmother), Rebecca Jane, Columbus, John, and Nancy Aletha. Rebecca died as an infant when her parents homesteaded in Kansas, Columbus died at age ten, and John was accidentally shot by a celebrating cowhand at the end of a round up in Wichita Falls, TX. Sarah married Ezekiel Ellis, a farmer, and Nancy married Charles Walker. Allen was a Union Soldier during the Civil War along with his brother Norval. Allen was killed at the battle of Grand Prarie on 24 Oct 1862. When Norval got leave he returned to Verona where Ruth decided that she wanted his body returned. Norval, his wife, and Ruth drove a wagon north for three weeks, exhumed Allen's body, and the two women drove south three weeks while Norval returned to duty. I haven't found out who the boys parents were, but did find the following marriages recorded in Lawrence Cy, MO, all within a two-year span. Were the four KELLYs related or is this just a coincidence? Thomas A. KELLY m. Ruth S. DAVIDSON on March 10, 1853 [J. B. Higdon J.P.] William G. KELLY m. Anise E. LOLLAR on March 9, 1854 [Henry C. Lollar, M.G.] George P. KELLY m. Mary E. HENLEY on March 7, 1855 [A. A. Young, M.G.] Sarah Ann KELLY m. B. F. WOODS on January 5, 1854 [G. B. Kirby. J.P.] Any help would be appreciated. -- Roger Hillhouse hillhous@electriciti.com San Diego, California

    3. -- [ From: Carrie P. Bell * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] -- Paula, Thank you for the welcome. I am very new to genealogy but have appreciated very much the way that genealogists support and help each other. This is what I know so far. My gggrandmother is Kizziah Kelley, b. Sept. 22, 1818, d. 1898 (do not know location of birth or death but could be Doddridge Co., W VA or Shelby Co., OH), m. Oct. 8, 1840 (?) Samuel Polan, Jr. (b. Sept. 27, 1824, d. Nov. 13, 1892). Her father is John M. Kelley, b. 1797 in Upper Alloways Creek, Salem Co., NJ, d. April 17, 1860 in Doddridge Co., W VA, m. Sophia Bee (b. 1796, d. June 15, 1845 in Doddridge Co., W VA). John's father is Nathan Kelley, b. abt. 1770 in Salem Co., NJ, d. aft. 1820 in Harrison Co., W VA, m. Eliazbeth (Jarman?). Nathan's father is another John Kelley. He may have come from Ireland in 1746 on the ship Delaware with Capt. Wm. Humphreys to Philadelphia, and may have been indented to John Hallowell June 5, 1746 to learn the shoemaker's trade, but according to the source I read, it is not known with certainty if this is the same John Kelley who is the father of Nathan. I hope I will find some people who also have connections to this line and can help me fill in my gaps, and just help me with the nuts and bolts of genealogy in general since I am so new at this. 3. I just posted this morning and now just got my mail so I have more information. Looking for information on Alvah Kelley, son of William Kelley and Tabitha. Born abt. 23 Jan 1805 in NY. Alvah was married to "Ruth" (Rohanna, Ruhamer) Kenyan. Any connection out there? Jill Olmack Here's the posting I just sent this morning. I have just started tracking my husband's lines. His ggg-grandfather is Alva Kelley who was married to "Ruth" Ruhamer Ronneon(?). In 1860, Alva is in Delaware Twp., Sanilac county, MI, but I believe he may have come from Bolton, Warren Co, NY. His daughter Nancy A. Kelley was listed with her husband Silas Merrill in the 1850 census for Bolton, Warren Co, NY. They were married with that year, which leads me to guess that Nancy may have been living with her parents just prior to that time. Anyone know Alva Kelley?

    1. Kelleys in Warren Co, NY?

    3. Hi, I have just started tracking my husband's lines. Thanks Jill Olmack
