    2. Duane Kelly <dkelly@digitalis.net Can anyone give any information to as to tell me where I am going wrong. This woman was born in Co. Limerick, Ireland she came to Canada with her parents at the age of 9 years of age. At that time her name was Ann Hishon on the 1910 Nebraska Census she was living with her son William and the date given for iimmagration was 1831. She married Thomas O'Kelly (Kelly) abt 1854. She died in Nebraska at Merna in the year of Feb. 22, 1911 and her remains were taken back to Ashkum, Ill. to be buried. I have sent to Lincoln, Neb. for a copy of death cert. and there was not one. I wrote Ill and they don't have one. I have checked with the state of Ill. for naturization papers and they don't seem to have one. Can anyone out there help with this problem? Or does anyone have an address on anyone doing the Kelly family history in Ill. She had a son William who married a Francis Spitz from Ashkum if anyone has heard of the Spitz family from Ill. please let me know. Valerie Kelly

    3. I too am looking for lost Kellys in Va. My Alexander was born 1755 Queen and King County, moved to and raised a family in NC before 1778. In early 1800's they moved to Georgia and in 1850's some of the family moved to Arkansas. Our line used the Gaelic system of naming children, so every other generation has an Alexander, an Andrew, a Hiram, and other family names, some after Presidents for a middle name, ie, Alexander Hamilton, Andrew Jackson, etc.. That is the only coincidence I can see in your query and, too my knowledge, none of our line moved to Missouri. Still, am willing to exchange information in case more coincidences show up. Thanks. 2. Looking for info on family and descendants of Denis Kelly who departed from Wexford Ireland to Toronto ca 1850. His son, John Joseph Kelly (1846 -1923), was born in County Wexford, grew up in Toronto, and moved as a young man to Brown County, WI, where he married Joannah Costello in 1874. The family eventually moved to South St. Paul, MN. Descendants of John Joseph Kelly are believed to be numerous and scattered throughout MN and the western U.S.

The witnesses were Peter CONOLE and Catherine KELLY. Denis Joseph FLANAGAN was born about 17 Aug 1892 in Lough, Co Clare, Ireland. A review of church records for 1892, does not turn up Denis. His son, John, thinks the day and month are correct, but the year could be up to 4 years earlier or later. His daughter, Mary, believes it could be August or September of 1889. He immigrated in 1917. He was described as having brown eyes, dark brown hair, ruddy complexion and was 5 feet 9 3/4 inches in height. It is interesting to note that they described him as having a ruddy complexion, since the first part of his surname "flan" means "ruddy" in Gaelic. He seved with the American Expeditionary Forces. His unit service was with Company 11 Depot Brigade to Company B 348th Infantry to Co C Recig Detachment. He was Honorably Discharged on 15 March 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey. He was naturalized on 19 Jul 1918 in Camp Dix, NJ. Denis received his U.S. Citizenship as a result of volunteering for the Army and going oversees to participate in WWI. He was naturalized before the Special District Court at Camp Dix and his Certificate of Naturalization is # 1029085. He resided - 58 Woods Ave in Nov 1961 in Somerville, MA, 02144. He died on 23 Nov 1961 in Somerville, MA. He was buried in Rindge Avenue Cemetery, Cambridge, MA. He was a Foreman for City Water Department in Somerville, MA. Denis' name is also spellt Dennis. He was possibly in the Somerville or Boston area, during the 1920 Census. Denis was a member of American Legion Post #19 in Somerville. His son, John, remembers going to the American Legion hall after parades. John also stated, "Denis could flatten a penny with one swing of a 20 pound sledge hammer exactly even all around". Mary Brigid KELLY and Denis Joseph FLANAGAN had the following children: +19 i. Francis Dennis FLANAGAN. +20 ii. Cecilia FLANAGAN. +21 iii. Louise Mary FLANAGAN. +22 iv. 3. Hello Nelindra and KELLEY-L list, I was just looking back thru the messages on the KELLEY-L list. You mentioned a Tyre Kelly. My research has gotten me back to my 3rd great grandfather, Seaborn Kelley, who was born in GA around 1804. I find him in Lowndes County Alabama from about 1830 on. He settled in that area with a number of Kelleys who very likely are related. The 1850 census records of Lowndes County reveal these families (these taken from a transcription of the Lowndes Co. census that appeared in AL Genealogical Review): Kelley, James G. 40 M SC Adaline B. 35 F NY James T. 11 M LA Henry H. 10 M AL Lewis G. 6 M AL Ada M. 4 F AL Kelley, James W. 48 M NJ Ann 40 F GA Thomas 12 F AL Mary A. These were within Sections 22, 27, 28, and 34 of Township 11-N, Range 17-E of St. Stephens Meridian. This land is now within Crenshaw county (I say this based on the fact that the Bureau of Land Management Website lists this property as being in Crenshaw county.... Crenshaw was formed Nov. 30, 1866 out of Butler, Coffee, Covington, Pike and Lowndes counties.) See my query: ___________________________________________________________________ Seeking info on the following family. John Jacob Khele arrived S. C. aboard the ship "John & Mary". The ship's captain was Capt Robinson. John Jacob Khele land grant petition appears in the Council Journal on 2 Jan 1753. He was granted 400 acres on Buffalo Creek, 18 Apr 1753. John Jacob arrived with Wife, & 6 children: John George 12, Anna Barbara ll, John 7, Catherine 5, Jacob 4, Jacob Andrew 6 mos. These children received land under the surname Kelly/Kelley. The Khele name was changed to Kelly/Kelley shortly after their arrival. My great great grandfather Jacob Kelly, b. Apr 1816, S. C. married ca 1840, Harriet Lybrand in the Lexington Dist., S. C. & moved to Coosa Co., Alabama btw 1840/1850. My great grandfather the Rev. Tyre Asia (T. A./Shun) Kelly, b. 15 Apr 1848 listed his birthplace as the Lexington Dist., SC. I am positive that one of the original sons of John Jacob Khele is the ancestor of my Jacob Kelly that migrated to Alabama. If anyone is researching this family please contact, Nelindra Ann Kelly Corum, 296 John Hicks Rd., Hazel Green, AL 35750, nkcorum@aol.com
